Hi: Just wondering if anyone has been sick after going on the ride soarin?

Thanks,

Deb.

I've got to imagine that there are. Motion simulators often drive me toward nausea. Body Wars was the WORST, IMHO. There are techniques that most folks pick up that help them enjoy such attractions; I seem to have gotten the hang of Star Tours.

I rode it three times last April. (once in each row)

The first time we rode we were on the lowest level( I think it's row three). I made the of looking down once we were lifted. :guilty: I felt awful during and after the ride. However, my son really wanted to try all three levels. So we rode two more times during our trip.

I made sure not to look down during the last two rides and I was fine. :confused3

My friend, who gets queasy just watching some rides, had no trouble at all with "Soarin'". She said there were parts that could have had an effect had they been longer, but we rode it twice in a row and she LOVED it. I know this doesn't mean everyone can ride with no problem, but she is a pretty reliable barometer of motion sickness.

None of us have had any problems with Sorin making us not feel good but I also haven't looked down.

Hi: Is it claustrophobic feeling at all? Also to avoid getting sick is it best to look straight ahead rather than down? I would hate to ruin the whole day for my daughter who gets motion sickness from my hubby doing a big curve with the car before he gets into a parking spot.lol

Thanks,

Deb.

As motion sickness goes, Soarin is not nearly as bad as Mission: Space. We were there the four days before Thanksgiving. We rode Mission: Space on Monday morning, and I sick most of the day. Got to Soarin (Fast Pass) at 5, and felt a slightly quesy while on the ride, but I was fine after. I think if you tend toward motion sickness you should eat a little something before going on the ride. Having said that, I think it is by far the best ride in all of Disney World!

I get sea sick (found out for sure on our cruise 13-17 Nov) and Soarin (the week before) left me with no feeling of nausea at all. That was the best ride. We stood in line for an hour one day because fast passes were gone by the time we got there from MK. Everyone has a different "motion" that affects their inner ear. I can ride Star Tours, RNR, and the tea cups, but don't put me on a ship for very long that's moving a lot. My DH can ride a ship any day (Navy reservist), but RNR makes him sick. You won't know til you ride. If there's concern, take dramamine (less drowsy) a couple of hours beforehand. Everyone I know that's ridden it has loved it (about 20 people). No one has complained about feeling ill. It's also not the least bit claustrophobic as you're in a fairly large room and can easily look around. The movie moves more than the seats do.

Raises Hand

I did! Only on certain parts where it goes really fast.

What I did when I started feeling that motion sickness feeling is look off to the side or close my eyes.

My friend told me to do that and after she said it I read somewhere that it works. They said on rides like Body Wars and Soarin where the screen is moving and your not, when you start getting that sick feeling look off to the side to make your eyes/mind break from the action.

They said this doesn't work on rides like Mission Space where your moving too. They said for that ride it's best to stay focused on the screen at all times.

Does it make your "belly feel funny" at all? I am taking ds (6) next week and plan on going on Soarin....he does not like the sensation of his beely feeling funny....like on the drop of SM....I have heard this attraction is fairly tame...don't want to take him on it if he will get upset! He LOVES Star Tours...so I know that can make some people a bit sick..what do you think?

It makes my belly feel funny but I'm not a good judge b/c the drop at POC makes my belly feel funny

Hi my family all went on Soarin last week. DD3 DS10 loved it. I can't speak for the 3 year old but we looked down no one got sick but at a couple of times your belly can feel a little funny. But the feeling isnt like riding a roller coaster. IMHO

I get sick on the jerky, twisty, etc rides. But on Soarin, I could easily close my eyes every so often when the hang glider took those turns or dipped a bit. So I was fine.

Well, maybe a little nauseated once - when I'd ridden Soarin' three times in a row :teeth: in about an hours (standby, then fastpass, then single riders - where I got to board faster than ANY other time I'd been on - in the door, down to where the CM sends you off to the right or left I was immediately sent down a ramp and the instant I got to the bottom of the single riders ramp, a CM pulled me to a preshow area)
It's not your typical motion ride - the banks of seats do actually rise x number of feet, then sometimes gently tilt backward or forward, and you get a breeze and it's great!
As one person mentioned, you may not want to look down but you really should look around at what's being displayed on the screen.

I get motion sickness if I don't look forward while riding in an automobile. I can't watch 360 or IMAX movies, not even Oh Canada. Star Tours made me unbelievably sick ( as does all the other movie/motion combo rides I have done) ...BUT...I WAS FINE ON SOARING!

I think it was a combination of the air blowing in my face, the very gently movement of the car and the stimuli of the different smells. I even rode twice in a roll! I really loved that ride.

When i went on it at CA i ws feeling a litlle woozy, but just looked over to the side where the edge of the screen is and that "reset" my stomach.... TOT was way worse!!!

It really didn't bother me that much, and I can't stand motion like that. There was one part toward the end, I quickly closed my eyes to get my bearings back, but that was on the first time riding it, and was nervous anyway. After the first time, I was fine cause I knew what to expect. It is by far one of the best rides Disney has!

I get motion sickness on lots of things. Airplanes, tea cups, Body Wars, Star Tours, etc. I did not get the least bit ill frmo SOARIN. I actually found this to be quite relaxing, despite my immense fear of heights.

I would not go near ToT or MS, but did not have a problem at all with Soarin'. It is such a gentle motion, and they turn the lights out before the ride goes up, so you do not realize you are going up like a ferris wheel. And when the movie ends, it gently goes down, with no feeling of "seasickness" or anything like that. And the lights are also turned off until you are down again.
