Has anyone ever stayed at Bolling Airforce Base?

I wanted to stay there sometime during October and was wondering how hard it is to get a room. I can only call 30 days prior to reserve a room. Thanks...

never staid at Bolling but ive used AF Inns a bunch-mostly at FE Warren,JB Lewis Mchord and Wheeler-never had trouble getting a room and Air Force digs are usually pretty nice compared to Army Lodging.

Used to live there - I was used to Navy places, and Bolling is NICE! Of course, the new Navy lodge is nice too :)

Be aware that it is NOT in a nice area. If you are going to leave the base, you will have to drive to wherever you are going. This is not the kind of base you walk off of to get dinner. It is convenient if you want to drive to the museums and such though.

I just stayed there two weeks ago. The Air Force lodging was full, so we stayed at the Navy Lodge. It was clean, had a small kitchen area, the staff were friendly and they had a decent bag breakfast in the morning.

I agree that the area surrounding the base is AWFUL!! The base however is gorgeous. There is a metro station just blocks away but your best bet would be to just drive into the city and park somewhere. It is that close.

Thanks, KerriSue-

We won't have a car - is there another way besides walking to get to the metro from the base?

I suppose you could take a cab, but I would be surprised if cabs would even go to that part of town after dark. We were even warned about wearing certain colors of clothing off-base if we had to get out of our car - i.e. no all black, all white, all blue, all red, and NO bandanas of any kind. We were sitting right in hte middle of major gang territory. It had the most murders per-capita of any neighborhood in the country when I lived there 15 years ago. It has improved since, but walking off base is still not really an option.

I do believe that there is a bus you can take to the metro. I had asked the lodging front desk when I was making my reservations. I remember them saying it was a ten minute walk from the room to the bus stop. Im thinking that that could have been the walk from the room to the front gate of the base. Either way, I think that you could drive and park at the metro, or get the bus. It is literally minutes from the gate if you drive. Just give lodging a call and ask for directions/bus info. They were very helpful :)

Thanks again! Since I cannot make reservations until 30 days prior, I'm going to look for alternate plans....

Have you thought about checking at Andrews AFB for lodging? It's 15-20 minutes from Bolling, in a safer area, and you can get taxis or a bus to take you to the Metro. There are also places to eat just off base that you can walk to if need be. Good luck!
