Some of you may not know him, but we saw country singer Mark Wills (or maybe Willis?) at Beaches and Cream in January 2006. I had heard his song "It was 1970 something..." but had no clue who sang it. My niece at the time was 7 and she kept looking at him over and over. Finally my sister told her to quit "looking at that man and eat!" My niece finally spoke up and said "I recognize him but don't know from where"... we were all like "ok"....and kept eating.
Well, "the man" finally came over - he had noticed my niece starring at him. He knelt down next to her and asked her, "I look familiar to you don't I?" She said yes, and blurts out, "you sing that 'something' song!" He said, "your right! I'm Mark Wills and I sing that 'something' song."
Of course I think its some weirdo just saying this and I said something like "no way".....he said, "yes I am" and laughed. Now, in my defense

I had heard the song my niece was talking about, but had not a clue who he was or had ever seen a picture of him. I have no idea what possessed me to say this, but the next words out of my mouth were, " I don't believe you...let me see your drivers license." He reached into his pocket and sd, "I don't have my license with me but I"ll show you this"....it was his resort ID card with.....of course.... MARK WILLS printed on the front. Well....didin't I feel like the idiot!!!
He then asked my niece her name and how old she was and talked to her. He said she was the youngest person that had ever recognized him out in public. He signed her autograph book and took pics with her. He was so nice. We finished up and went to the arcade to play a few games with the kids. Well, his family came in there and his daughter played a game with my niece and then he chatted with my husband and rest of the family for a bit. (but not me...I was in a corner somewhere still recovering from my humiliation!) My hubby asked him to sign his Mickey hat, which he did.
Lesson learned - never trust myself to open my mouth if I ever meet a celebrity again!
