I know, I know that I should just give up and call my doctor but I thought I would see if anyone here has any experience regarding a boken tailbone. I fell hard two weeks ago and landed full force on the area just below the small of my back. I am still in tremendous pain when sitting but have resisted calling my doctor because I don't think they can do anything about a break in this area. If this has happened to anyone could you tell me about how long the intense pain lasts? I have been able to cope with Aleve and sitting on my side but I don't want to do this forever. To compound this problem we have a trip planned for WDW in a week and I don't know if anything can be done to help. And I thought that I would be in bad shape at WDW with my bad knees but now this.

seems like several weeks. I just remember if I was sitting down praying that I never had to get up and if I was standing praying I would never have to sit down. Sorry, its a pretty painful injury. get one of those donut thingys. any jerkys rides are out of the question. BTMR, Space Mountain, Everest, is gonna kill ya.

My daughter broke her coccxy this past spring in soccer. The doctor prescribed a prescription anti-inflamatory. She was sore for quite a while. She sat on one of those "doughnut" pillows on car rides and at home. She was too embarrassed to use it at school! If you are driving to wdw get a pillow! Hope you heal quickly!

I broke mine in first grade, actually I crushed it. You should get it checked out in case it's in the way of anything and causing problems. Mine was, but after lying flat on my back for a while everything settled back into place. The donut is essential.

Mine actually still bothers me and it's 20+ years later, but it was a whole mess of things from the fall. Hopefully you can get something that will take the pain away better than aleve. I'm not a drug pusher, and I remember little from operations and broken bones, but I'll never forget that pain.

My dr told me there was not anything they could do for mine. I was in a lot of pain for several months, and still some pain for years later.. maybe like for like 4-5 years or so I would still feel pain from it if I sat the wrong way. I can't say exactly for sure how long because finally one day I just realized it hadn't bothered me in a bit.

I injured mine on a cruise and every bit of traveling the rest of the time was very painful, and then a few months later I took a 7 hr flight and that was extremely painful! Ahh just thinking of sitting on that flight makes me feel sick to my stomach from the pain...

Sorry about your injury and hopefully you will heal fast!

I would ABSOLUTELY go get checked out by a doctor. While in most cases they can't do anything for you, they will be able to, at the very least, recommend a treatment plan and determine whether or not you may need surgery. A friend of mine did break her coccyx and she required surgery.

Yeah, after an X-ray and an MRI, they couldn't do anything for me but pain medicine and a donut pillow. Mine was two years ago, and it still hurts when I sit for an extended period. Of course, mine hurt so bad that by the next morning, I HAD to go to the ER, so maybe yours is a bad bruise?

I hope it feels better soon!

I'll never forget it. I was 13, and I can remember like it was yesterday. I had invited all my friends over my house in the Summer and we were sitting around the kitchen table, I had gotten up to get a drink and one of the boys thought it would be hilarious to pull the chair out from under me:sad2::scared1: OUCH!! It was so not funny. Because it was SO embarrassing, I didn't tell a soul that whole Summer how much it hurt. At 13, that would have been mortifying. I was in pain that entire Summer! But then it finally eased up. I wished I had gotten something for the pain. For you, I'd go to the doc for a strong Motrin prescription, 800 mg tablets. That should do the trick. Good luck!

Yep...TWICE!!!!!!!!!!!! The last time was two years ago. I sprayed DS's slide and then went down it to show him how fun it would be. Needless to say, I landed on my rump at least 10 feet away from the slide. Honestly, mine hurt for close to 8 weeks or so. Donut pillow, heating pad and pain relievers are your best bet. I feel your pain!!!

Hurts like a mother and there's nothing they can offer you other than pain medicine.

Maybe some other stuff might bring relief...heat, ice, positioning. But really, time id the cure...it just has to heal.

I feel for you. I did this a few years ago and it was extremely painful. I would go to the doctor just to make sure it's healing properly.

Yup years ago, I fell off the school bus. Yes you read that right, I slipped right at the top stair and my feet shot out from under me and I landed on the road on my butt.
Seemed like the pain would never stop, but it did. However I still get pain once in a while all these years later, especially when sitting on a very hard surface for an extended period of time.

Good luck with your trip to WDW.

I broke mine when my DD was born...'nuff said.

agnes!

I broke mine by wearing Crocs with worn our treads on wet deck steps. Six steps later, I landed on the EDGE of the last step. OUCH!

Yes, unfortunately. I decided to show ds2 at the time that going down the kiddie water slide at the water park was so much fun. Who knew that with him on my lap we were like a torpedo from the minute we started at the top to the minute I hit the bottom of the 3 inch pool and skidded 15 feet. Thank goodness he was on my lap, and I recall at the end of the skid saying a not so nice word. DS said "You said this was fun"...

Took weeks. No baths for me, just sitting in the tub killed me. The donut for me was a PITA. I seem to recall it took about 6 weeks just for the bruising to disappear. I still used the donut when driving or riding in the car for months. Those bumps and potholes...sheesh.

I never, ever want to do that again.

broke mine on the flume ride at Rocky Point when I was in 7th grade! I was in the back of the flume and because there wasnt enough weigh in it, it bounced and I bounced! They took me to first aid because I couldnt walk and had the emt's check me out.. since there was nothing they could do for it, they didnt send me to the ER and i had to ride home on the school bus!!! :scared1:

I did, and you are right, there is nothing the doctor can do but sympathize if they have had it happen to them. Mine had!

The intense constant pain wasn't long term, a few months maybe. But the side sit can last. And last, and last. Mostly mine isn't an issue now, but it has been about 4 years. First year I always had to sit to one side. Second year it would hurt if I sat for ling. Third year occasionally would hurt. Now it rarely does.

I fractured mine giving birth to my youngest son. Ouch! :headache: Hope the OP feels better soon! I just had to wait it out...but it wasn't fun.

I'm pretty sure I broke mine once during a hard fall on the ice, although I never went to the doctor about it. I had pretty intense pain for a few weeks, and then ongoing pain for probably 2 - 3 years before it finally faded away.
