We are thinking about doing something a little different with our vacation this year. I know many of you on the boards do Disney's land (Resorts) and sea (Cruise) vacation but how about a land and sand (Vero Beach) vacation. I have never been to Vero Beach and hear it's a wonderful getaway for rest after a few days of running in the parks. Has anyone ever Stayed at on site and taken the drive down to Vero Beach. We are planning to stay at OKW from 8/28 - 9/2 AAA rate and Vero Beach from 9/2-4. We will rent a car and take the 2 hour drive down. 4 women on the road watch out. If you have done this before, please tell me about your experience and did you feel it was worth the trip. Looking forward to getting your responses. :cheer2:

Thought about it for this October, but after checking into it on-line, pricing and whats there to do, plus I would have had to rent a car for the drive too, I came to the conclusion: Vero isn't much cheaper than WDW, I'm already here, no drive, tons of things to do without going to any parks, just stay at WDW extra 2-3 days, enjoy everything around the resort and just kick back and relax and save a bunch of money. Doesn't seem like much to do at Vero, except the ocean is nice but WDW has more to offer. Just my opinion, though!! Do the numbers, time and whats to see and do!

We have done this before and enjoyed ourselves. We took a boat tour, went to Mel Fisher's gold treasures shop(you pay to tour their exhibit). We walked along the beach-however, the beach at Vero is not all fine sand, it has a lot of little pieces of shells and it is somewhat more narrow than I thought it would be. Vero's pool is nice and the resort is lovely. I know we did other things, but I can't remember them all as it was 4 years ago. I would definitely return again.

We did this 3 years ago. We went to Disney Vero for four nights and then a week at the GF.

We had a relaxing and very enjoyable time at Vero. Beautiful resort, pristine beach, and dark blue sea!

It is a plesant drive from WDW and you should really enjoy it!

We did it a few years ago. We started out with one night at DTD, then drove to VB for three nights. We had an Inn Room and it was really big. Beach was fun and we had a great time just relaxing. Then we returned to WDW for about 5 nights at the BW.

We spent 2 nights out there last May, and had a GREAT time! Just relaxed! Had a nice 2 bedroom villa, with full kitchen and laundry and such, and cooked some in our room, ate fast food from the town, and laid around for 2 days. It's was a great way to end our trip and relax. We played in the sand, rocked in the rocking chairs and read a book, had coffee and cheesecake at 10pm at the bar, and laid at the pool with a frosty drink.

They have lots of family activities and children's things as well. 2 of our family members had a massage in the afternoon, very affordable! It was $55 for an hour when we were there.

=)

I'm planning our first trip combining 13 nights at WDW (VWL & BCV), then to Vero Beach (studio) for 4 nights! Just me and my 3 children (hubby joins us at BCV for a few nights). We drive down and usually go to US/IOA for a couple of days after WDW, but decided to try something different this year. I was a little nervous about it, but as it gets closer, and I read more and more positive things about VB, I'm really getting excited. :thewave:

We did this a couple years back and LOVED Vero. The resort is wonderful, and we had a great time. Kids loved the pool and the ocean. There are lots of activities, but not much too close to the resort. We only went 'offsite' for one meal, and ended up wishing we had just tried Shutters! :)

I have a trip report here: July 2003 Trip report

And a photo tour here: (We stayed in a one bedroom unit, but I also included lots of resort, pool and beach pics...) Vero Beach Slideshow

I think you will love it! ::yes::

We also were thinking about dividing our trip between Vero and WDW.
Is it like a cruise, where there are lots of activities for the kids?
I heard in an earlier post that the beach was narrow, but is it still nice?

We did this a few years ago.

We started with 5 nights in a 2BR at Vero followed by 7 nights at WDW.

It was very nice. A quick drive up to Disney from the Coast.

Great Time!

We have done this twice. Had a great time. Both time we went to VB at the end of the trip. The pace there is very slow and relaxing compared to the Disney

Our family of 4 did this before the hurricane and loved it. VB is so relaxing and just a whole different pace than WDW, so we were pleased we decided to do it at the end of 10 days in the Parks.
We stayed just 1 night, (2 full days because we got down there in good time the first day) but my DS and DD loved the ocean and we did the miniature golf; played in the (small) arcade, and just relaxed around the pool. For us, it wouldn't be a place to spend a huge chunk of time because we'd get bored. But DH and I wanted the kids to see the ocean in a clean and beautiful environment, so we were not disappointed there. Believe it or not, the hardest part was getting actual directions to the place. Like a fool, I thought our desk CMs could tell us but we had to go through about 6 different people and the final instructions were not good. Make sure you've scouted out the final connections, it wasn't clearly marked when we went. Also, stop at a convenience or discount store and stock up on soda, munchies, pool toys, paperbacks, magazines, etc. The lodge store is well-stocked but expensive. You will have a very relaxing time...enjoy. :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsboy:
