Has anyone driven from Chicago area?

Is US231 a 2 or 4 lane highway????? Based on what we normally plan, would be driving thru there around 2-4 AM, how about gas stations, restrooms etc???

Four lane divided but not limited access. Standard cross roads, no ramps. Road goes thru Troy and Ozark. By-pass around Dalton just a four laner with lights.

There is at least one rest area that I remember, but may be closed at night. If you can, wait until you get on I-10. They have security and there is one just after you get on.

Get gas before entering Florida. Big difference in price. Don't gas up again until you are down south on I-75. For some reason the prices are high in northern Florida. Same thing if you go down I-75 via Georgia.

You know, CBRFAN, you have set off bells in my brain. We do Dalton on the northbound route, too. We Always go south of Atlanta on the Southbound trip. I'll do anything to avoid a crowd, a traffic jam, an oversized group. My mistake. The Country Inn & Suites there is great, none the less.
