Has anyone done this

Me! My oldest read Charlotte's Web and the cartoon was not streaming. I bought it so he could watch it. I own all the Marvel and Star War movies as soon as they come out. I also have purchased most of Sherlock as well.

Yep, I much prefer to have an actual DVD to a stream. Like you said, this way I know I have a physical copy that will work as opposed to a stream that might get corrupted.
What do you mean corrupted? Interrupted?

Tink, are you talking like Netflix or Prime where they switch things out?

I own a ridiculous amount of media both physical and digital. We are big movie buffs and it costs less to buy a movie on Blu Ray than it does to go see it. (It cost us close to $100 for our family to go see Avengers Infinity War) My Kids stream the digital versions pretty regularly and rarely have a problem. The movies are always there though because I own them.

At home I stream, or rent from on-demand.
I do buy DVDs for our camp because we have no internet and spotty data up there.

I have 100s of DVDs. Started long before streaming.
I do buy less now, but because a lot of movies I don't want to watch over and over.
We go to the movie almost every week

I used to buy every Disney movie for my DD, especially if it was something that just came out and she was having one of her fever spells..I would buy it to help make her feel better and watch it with her. Now that she is almost 13, I think those days are over....but who knows?? Wreck It Ralph sequel...if they make a Big Hero sequel I'm still game, even if she isnt. I'm just a big kid. Although...we did just watch Finding Dory last weekend :) I don't like relying on Netflix or Hulu for stuff we really like.

Yes, we purchase things we would want to watch repeatedly. Even DD17 has DVDs on every birthday & Christmas wish list :)

I'm a pretty militant minimalist, so I only own digital copies of media, excluding vinyl and some books. Several years ago I purged 1000s of books, cds, and dvds. I've never regretted it. But thanks for giving me the idea of a day date to the record stores today:)

we stream pretty much everything, we own movies on DVD and Blu-ray but it's just easier to stream. We have Prime and Netflix right now and pretty much everything we could want to watch is on there, last summer I subscribed to Hulu as well and I will probably splurge on that again this summer. If something we want to watch isn't available to stream for free with either of the services we subscribe to, then we request it from the library. Subscribing to 3 streaming services is still cheaper than paying for cable.

Another plus for streaming is that you don't have to store all the DVDs. I had to downsize when I moved and I don't want to accumulate all the clutter again.

Hi friend

buy instead of streaming that way when you want to watch you know you have the movie vrs the unpleasant surprise of it not being their anymore

I still buy DVDs of movies that I will want to watch in the future. Movies that are streaming won't necessarily always be available. Also I live in a place where our internet usage is metered, so streaming isn't a great option for us.
