Has anyone done the math on OBB?

I've been turning this over in my head as well. We don't have Costcos where I live yet (lots of Sam's Clubs), and we love our TA but her agency does not offer OBC, which is frustrating.

We usually do 7-night E. Carib. Fantasy cruises, getting two standard Cat 5D verandah staterooms. For the five of us, the fare is roughly $8000.

But using Dreams as a "stand-in" agency (i.e., one that offers OBC), it seems like the question is which is the better deal - the full OBC through DU, or (the 50% OBC through Dreams + the 10% OBB discount + the $200 DCL OBC). Am I looking at it the right way?

So, if I book straight through Dreams for an $8000 cruise, I get no discount, but will get approximately $400 in OBC.

If I do OBB, my $8000 cruise becomes a $7200 cruise, plus I still get $400 in OBC ($200 from Dreams OBC, plus $200 from DCL).

If I have all that right, then for my usual cruise, the OBB is the clear winner, no?

How do you get fare for five people to be $8000? I take five people on the Eastern 7-night on the Fantasy and it always comes up a minimum of $9600 in just one ocean view. Details please?

Yes. Well at least that's what we received and we have done it after the change. It seems others have as well.

Good to know. Thanks.

We have found that OBB with reduced DU OBC is still a better deal than not using OBB.

This assumes the cruise in question isn't one of those exempt from the OBB benefits.

That was a very round number for the sake of easy math. I think it is closer to $8500. And now that I think of it, it probably includes the OBB 10% discount we usually get.

So, the pricing was inaccurate, but I think my underlying logic is still sound.

What month do you travel?

Depends. Feb. or May. We live in Louisiana, so we get Mardi Gras week off when most of the rest of the country is still in school. Also, the school year ends pretty early down here, so we can sail in the latter half of May before the whole country is out of school and fares shoot up.
