My husband and I are going to WDW in May and looking at travel guides, stumbled across a place called Gatorland. Has anyone been there and is it fun or a big waste of a potential day spent at Disney? Thanks.

We enjoyed Gatorland alot. If you have a chance to speak with the staff, you will find that they are very well-informed and passionate about their gators and conservation. My daughter especially loved the chance to feed the lorikeets. During posted times they will let you enter the aivary, and, if you wish, buty a cup of nectar for a dollar and feed the birds. They were landing all over my daughter and my parents and they LOVED it. I myself do not like birds flying by my head so we just watched. My kids also got to hold a baby gator(mouth taped shut) and a snake. There is a nice boardwalk through a cypress swamp and a fountain play area. We would go back.

I absolutely loved Gatorland!!!! It was the best thing we did on our Jan trip - this including all of the Disney parks. It is completely original!!! The staff is very funny and informed. They even helped me with questions I had concerning a bear, yes - a bear, that they housed. I do volunteer research work at a major zoo and found them to be a huge help. It takes about half a day to see the place and all of the shows they have. You must see the snake show and the Gator wrestling show!!! It's something that is completely original and a must see!!! Have a great trip!!1 - Karen

We thought it was really funny! You heard all about conservation etc and then got to buy gator burgers, shoes etc.!!!

It was a good day out.

Unless you live in a swamp, you don't get to see live gators and crocs everyday- By all means GO!
It really is something and you won't believe how HUGE some of them are. Our family spent about 3 hours there. My son loved every minute of it. As for my daughter and I, its an uncomfortable feeling being surrounded by literally hundreds of reptiles! But worth the trip.... Enjoy- but don't stray from the boardwalks!!.....

Does anyone know how far from WDW? Do they have a website?

We had a taxi take us. It took about 10-15 min from All Star Sports. It's so much fun!!! - Karen

I know it is a 30 minute drive from Universal to Gatorland. I went recently. I think it is nice, but I wasn't all too thrilled with it. Still, if you have never seen gators, it would be good to see. Since I live in South Florida, I see gators every now and then. Besides, you must go only to try gator meat. It really does taste like chicken, but it was a little tougher.

One employee told us they buy all their gator meat, accesories from gator farms, you are not eating former residents of Gatorland! She admitted that she would prefer that no gator eating took place, but she felt it was good to support the farms, because this reduced poaching of wild gators. The lesser of two evils.

I went there a couple years ago but was not that impressed. It could be because I live in Florida (all my life). It was nice to do something new but I am glad that I had free tickets to get in there.

For those that rarely see gators, may enjoy...I do think the children like it. My little brother was 11 when we went and he had a good time.
