Growing up at
Disneyland, my childhood memories were that the characters wandered around the park and you could walk right up to them. If there was any line, it was spontaneously created by the guests and was never more than a few minutes. What changed? Maybe I was oblivious at the time.
Now, characters don't seem to wander the park... they would get mobbed. Most encounters are a formal meet-and-greet.
When I was a kid, the one formal meet-and-greet at Mickey's Toontown, where you were ushered into a private dressing room to greet him after touring his house. By having multiple dressing rooms, they could keep capacity high. Perhaps this is a solution to increase capacity. Build multiple meeting areas, each hidden from each other.
It also makes it easier for the princesses to take breaks. How do they handle breaks now?
