I read the Ian McKellan rumor in the paper as well. I'd think it would be pretty hard to pull it off.

Gary Oldman is a terrific character actor and has been in such roles as :
Dr. Smith "Lost in Space"
and one of my favorites is "The Fifth Element" with Bruce Willis...Oldman plays the bad guy.
