Harry Potter Protest

I love Harry Potter, and can't imagine how anyone is harmed by these delightful books.

Still, I'm not sure I agree with those who say such protests are "censorship". By ranting, raving, burning/cutting books, whatever....people are expressing themselves in a way that doesn't prevent the Harry Potter books from being written, published, or read. I can't see where these protest actions have any tangible effect on my ability to read the books if I so choose, so I don't *feel* that censorship is occuring with this specific example.

Of course, I disagree with the protesters and think it's all a bit silly. Still, they are simply exercising their own rights to say they don't like the books and in so doing don't seem to be denying me the opportunity to read them if I choose.

Naturally, if anyone was intimidated or prevented from accessing the books and movies in some material way, that would then cross the line and be censorship.

Just my 3 cents' worth (inflation, y'know!)....good discussion!

I do find it interesting.

Snow White (Witch), Sword in the Stone (Wizard), Hercules (Devil), Beauty and the Beast (Spell), Fantasia (Sorcerer) and The Black Cauldron.

 ;)

I agree, Dreamer Kevin. It's their right to cut up books if they want to. I think it's completely misguided and silly and it makes them look ridiculous, but that alone isn't really censorship. I have no problem with it as long as they aren't trying any real censorship - keeping books off library shelves, out of bookstores, etc. Let them do whatever they want. It's really not going to have any impact. The books are a huge hit! Every kid I know will still be waiting in line this weekend for a ticket to the new movie! And so will I!

I'm sorry but I had to laugh when I read "The Jesus Party at the Ramada Inn" That just speaks VOLUMES to me! Let em be all paranoid.... as long as they don't get in my way when I go to the theater!;)

As a Mainer.... there will be more people in line at the theater than there are at that "party" Trust me!
