Does anyone out there know if Harry Potter will be playing on the Magic during the June 19th 7 day western? Is there any way to find out what movies they are playing? thanks:D

You can find out what's playing by calling DCL within 2 weeks of your sailing. It is extremely unlikely that Harry Potter will be playing since it isn't a Disney movie.

Disney makes movies under at least 2 different labels--but the movies on the ship are nearly always ones made or distributed by one of the Disney labels.

DCL does not show first run movies from distributors that are not part of Disney. The Harry Potter series is from Warner Bros.

If DCL shows the third Harry Potter movie, it won't be until shortly before (or even after) its video release. A few non-Disney movies are shown in the Buena Vista Theatre and on in-room TV, but not many.

Disney's Around the World in 80 Days will be released in the U.S. on June 16, 2004. The cast includes Jackie Chan, Steve Coogan, Jim Broadbent, Johnny Knoxville, Kathy Bates. From the previews, it looks like it will be a very entertaining movie.

Expect a "PremEAR at Sea" one minute after midnight on June 16. Then, expect additional showings after that.

I saw Harry Poter on the May 2002 cruise...not sure when the second Harry Potter movie came out but that is when it was on the cruise.

The U.S. release date for the second Harry Potter movie, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," was November 15, 2002. I believe you are mistaken about it having been shown on a May 2002 cruise -- six months before its U.S. release.

Perhaps you saw the first Harry Potter movie, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," which had its U.S release on November 16, 2001.

I was on the Wonder in June of 2003 and it was "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets". It was probably the Sorcerer's Stone" as pointed out by Horace that was being shown in 2002. - Mike

I don't know if it is playing on the ships but I am GOING TO SEE IT TONIGHT !!!!!
I can't wait! :bounce: :Pinkbounc

yodasdabomb - Can you give us an update after you see it? Thanks - Mike

This movie is as good as the others...we just came back.

Definately go see it

Wife and I just got back and it's most definitely the strongest of the three in our opinion. Cuaron seemed to bring more out of the actors and the look of the movie is decidedly different than it's predecessors. Gary Oldman gets way to little screen time in my opinion.

We're gonna get up tomorrow at the crack of dawn and go see it again at our local IMAX. Not sure I can handle a 5 story Hippogrif (sp?) that early . . .

First the positives .. I loved the movie. Loved what the new director has done and the new look. Great humor and I definitely jumped several times!! :)

Now the thing I am pretty upset about (and I am usually the one upset with people who say things like this) I was really disappointed on how a KEY KEY point to the plot of practically the entire series was cut out of the movie! Those of you that have read the books should know what I am talking about, (i.e. the authors of the map AND why Harry's patronus looks the way it does) I almost wanted to cry that this was missing from the movie, and regardless of time constraints I think that that should not have been cut out.
I also was a little upset with how the took out Harry, Ron and Hermione's fights that go on through out the movie over CrookShanks, and the Firebolt.
That being said it is defnintely worth seeing (might be a little scary for the younger ones) and my favorite of the three. I think I just may have been a little more critical of this one because it is my favorite book of the series and because I feel like this book has a lot more key things going on in it than some of the fluff that it is the other books.

yodasdabomb - Thanks for taking the time to write this up. Wondering if it will be OK for my DS 6 1/2. The first one he liked but was a little scared with the 2nd one.- Mike

Ah the preasure haha I am scared to say yes or no! My advice would be for you to go see it first and decide, because it is hard for me to say not knowing you son as every six 1/2 year old I have ever meant it different.

I will say this though if he gets startled easily but sudden loud noise or sudden action, he may get scared (I definitely jumped myself a few times). Also this movie is a lot darker than the other two so for a six year old it may freak him out. However if he is a big Harry Potter fan and he has read the books or has had them read to him he might be okay?

Again my best advice would be for you to take a night and go see it before you decide to take you son. That way you will no if A: you want to take him at all, and B: if there is anything you need to prepare him for (Make Believe vs. Reality).
Sorry I know I wasn't very informative but I feel really bad saying yes or know when I have A: never had a six year old of my own and B: have never meant yours. :)

ROTFL!!! "Disney" and "Johnny Knoxville" in the same paragraph?????? "Around the World in 80- Days" looks absolutely terrbile, but now that I know Knoxville is in it - I may have to check it out! :rotfl:

yodasdabomb - You actually asnwered my question with the following "this movie is a lot darker than the other two". Seems like he will have to wait for another 6 months ( I told him he could see it when he was 7 if it was too scary). He just saw Shrek2 anyway so he can wait a little while for this one (But can I wait since I also seem to like these movies - LOL). Thanks again - Mike

Mike,
I took my boys to see it. The 7 1/2 yr old got a bit freaked out in certain parts (he pretty much hid his head under my arms!) He's a pretty 'tough' kid when it comes to movies, he had no problem with the first two HP movies and he's a BIG Jurassic Park fan! This one is much darker than the first two -- and since he wasn't old enough to read the book, a lot of it didn't even make sense to him. :(

NYDisneyMom - Thanks for confirming what I thought. - Mikw

Yodasdabomb - I have to agree with you. On the whole, I enjoyed the movie and I felt that the acting and direction were quite good. But the gaps in the plot are noticeable. For anyone who has not read the book, the Maurader's Map being created by Padfoot, Prongs, Wormtail and Mooney will have no meaning. A flashback would have done the trick and added so much to the flow of the movie. Oh well, so much for second-guessing the screenwriter and the director. Anyway, my DS is 8.5 and he loved it. In fact, he wants to re-read the book.

::yes:: Haha as much as I didn't like some of the editing decision in the movie... I am DYING to go back and see it again!! My mom and I, who have both seen it, are taking my Dad next week. You want to talk about a brave woman! My mom took 11 of her students ( who were trying to earn the trip throughout the school year) to see it. She called me right after and told me that here students (4th graders) were so enthralled they didn't budge throughout the entire movie. Anyway back to my point. I want to see it again and I am also reading the book again!, and I got the soundtrack (which is great too). So if you have older children definitely go see it. I however am a big advocate of reading books before seeing the movie version, so maybe if you have a child who hasn't read it, make them a deal... if they read it first then they can see it :). Great way to kick of the summer reading! (Can you tell I am someone with a teaching credential??? haha)
