Harry Potter or Twilight Series? If You've Read Both, Which One?

Harry Potter! I read both series but breezed through Twilight, it has an awful lot of fluff. I was like "get to the point already!" Harry Potter I have read through twice, cried many times and was amazed at how well she put those stories together. I honestly could not put them down! Ask my family! Hmmm... all this talk has me thinking it may be time to read them again! :goodvibes

Harry Potter. Not even a close contest.

Like almost everyone else, I much prefered Harry Potter. Twilight was OK but clearly written for teens and younger adults. Happy Potter has something for all ages.

My DD (17) loves to read. She read the Twilight series because her best friend (who isn't much of a reader) loved it. She commented on how poorly the Twilight author wrote. She got thru the series, but probably will not read it again, but she picks up HP often to reread (just like I do).

Harry Potter hands down. I enjoyed the Twilight series, but there is just no comparison in the writing and depth. I still think Deathly Hallows is one of the best books I've ever read. I was one who bought it at midnight and stayed up all night reading it!

I've read both series. Harry Potter is the best by far!

Harry Potter, absolutely. I liked Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse were ehh, okay. Absolutely hated Breaking Dawn.

I'm sure some will not agree with this, but I think the writing in the Twilight series isn't very good. It is an interesting story angle, but not well executed. Harry Potter is very well done.

Me too. I got into the books around Book 4, and attended every midnight sale for Books 5, 6 & 7 with my DD's. I read them all straight through. Luckily, I'm a fast reader. I think it took me 3 1/2 hours to read Deathly Hollows all the way through. Then I reread it, and reread it.....:wizard:

HP is my all time favorite book series, and I read ALOT!!

But I did like Twilight actually loved it, but not for the writing. I somehow feel in love with the series against my better judgement KWIM?

Definitely Harry Potter! Even though it's supposed to be a childrens series, the writing is so evolved and eloquent, if you like fantasy you'll love it!!

Also, try the Mortal Instrument series. It's got a little of both genres (supernatural: vampires, werewolves and magic) and it's beautifully written as well. :)

Wow, though I'm not surprised, it's still interesting to see the landslide of opinion.

I feel the same way... Harry Potter is definitely better imo. I'd say I'm a fairly fast reader or at the least, above average speed... when I read the Twilight series, there were many parts I wanted to just skim read as they would drag on. I also felt as if Twilight was very predictable and as I would go through the books, I didn't care about detail and read them very quickly. I like the overall story of Twilight but it's hard to truly love a book when you despise the main character.

In HP, I made to read at a slow pace to catch every detail I could. And in reading the books over and over I still feel as if I find something new in every book. I don't find it wonderfully predictable, some parts are but for the most of it isn't. Also, I can't really say that I hated any of the characters in HP... well, of course I hated what some of them did but the characters were awesome!

I love them both and would have a very hard time choosing one over the other but they are very different so it is hard to compare them IMO. I guess it would depend on what kind of mood Im in at that particular moment. I think that the writing in Harry Potter was better but I was sucked into Twilight more than the Harry Potter books. I read the Harry potter books over the span of a couple days and or weeks but couldn't put the Twilight series down even to sleep but they are shorter reads so maybe thats why!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series of books!!!

Harry Potter. Hands down. It's better written, it's more interesting, better developed, etc.

Another vote for Harry Potter.

DD (12) is Twilight-obsessed. She nagged me into reading Twilight and I honestly couldn't see what the fuss was about - I thought the writing was poor tbh. I started New Moon and gave up about 4 chapters in as I just wanted to slap Bella till she stopped moving, and then slap her some more to make sure. I did make it to the end at the second attempt, but Bella is just such a whinging little mare and Edward is borderline abusive, so I just don't get the whole thing.

I did think the last couple of HP books could have done with ruthless editing (50% of the last 2 or 3 books was filler) but still way better than Twilight.

After reading this thread, it doesn't appear that very many disagree with you at all! ;)
