Have any of the books addressed who James Potter's family is? We know all about Lily's family - but did James not have parents? siblings? aunts? uncles?

No one has an answer on this? I can't think of it ever being mentioned - but thought maybe I'd missed it.

Any theories as to why not??

Hi debbie....
I don't recall it being mentioned...but I have to re-read the books.....

DId you finish book 6?

I can't wait for 7 ........... :rotfl:

I dont think anything has been said and I've reread all the books (except 6 which I've only read once) at least 5 times.

You know, that's a very good question... either JK might be saving a surprise for book 7 or maybe she just didn't care to go into it. HP is driving me crazy because I'm thisclose to being done and I have to be at work. Arg!!

I have been wondering this for years. I also have wondered what happened to ALL of Harry's grandparents. I mean, his parents were young when they were killed, were all of his grandparents dead already? And Harry never asks about them, which I also think weird.

i've always wondered this as well. :confused3

nope, the books have been incredibly silent on the Potter lineage.

We know that James was a Pureblood. We also know that they were kind enough to let Sirius stay with them during school breaks.

you might want to read here for an excellent summary of James Potter through book 6.

The only things I recall mentioned in the books about James' parents were that they were pureblood wizards and a young Sirius used to find refuge in their home. (In OOTP, he mentioned Sunday dinners and becoming "like a second son to them", which leads me to the assumption James did not have a brother, at the very least.)

I was disappointed that this wasn't mentioned in book six. I heard J.K. say a few years ago that she would write more about James' family, what kind of jobs he and Lily had, how they got all the gold that is in the vault, etc. in an upcoming book. I was expecting more about the family to be in this book.

That's what I started theorizing last night. I've read all the books at least twice (except #6 - if I'd been home this weekend instead of frittering away at WDW :rotfl: I'd have it done by now!) and I don't remember them ever being brought up either. I just think it's odd that he never asks ANYTHING about his father's family and that nothing has been said about them. His father was a pure-blood - so it seems like he would have a pretty extensive family!

I guess I've just assumed that they're all dead, since Harry was sent to live with the Dursley's. Didn't Dumbledore say at some time that they were the only family that he had left? If there were any of Harry's father's family left I would think that they would be more than happy to take him in and raise him in the wizarding ways.

They only talk about them once I think. When Sirus says he used to spend time with James' family after he left his family. I think it was in book 5
