I love them because I can just get lost in a fantasy world. The books were great and I've learn to accept the movies as movies and just to enjoy the experience of seeing different aspects come to life on screen.

I just read all the books since sept and DDs and I started watching movies 1-6 since then as well. I LOVED the books. The movies were good. However there are SO many details in the books that I think would have made the movies even better. Still, they were good, and we're looking forward to part 7.

The books and movies are fantastic. They pull you into a world that is deep enough to hold you, with a plot that is compelling enough to leave you begging for more. Fantastic character development. Incredible scenery. Special effects worthy of the books.

Like the Lord of the Rings, the books and movies are worthy of imitators. Worlds have been created that will be copied time and again.

Early reviews are very good. Many have called this entry into the series the "Empire Strikes Back" of the Potter films.

I love the books and the movies. DW and I own all 6 movies, and all 7 books. Just recently finished watching all the movies again; be prepared for when the first part of Deathly Hallows comes out this weekend. Movies really brought the books to life. Makes you wish such places really existed so you can go there.

DW just finished all 7 books. I started reading them again as well. Forgot how many more details are in the book than in the movies. But then again, if you try to put all the details in the movies, then you would probably have a 5-6 hour movie for each book.

LOVE the books and the movies. DD and I were both sad to finish the last book and we will both be sad to finally see the last movie, but love them both.

It was after the 4th movie was out on DVD before we started watching/reading either one. When I watched the first movie (uncut version on Family Channel), I was really impressed that it actually follwed the book as much as it did. There was so much to get in that movie with all the introductions of things at Hogwarts and just the magical world in general.

Its funny though, Order of the Phoneix was my favorite book and least favorite movie; Half Blood Prince my least favorite book and favorite movie. Not sure why that it is??

Looking forwad to a HP movie night before we see Deathly Hallows!

I really didn't love the movies probably because my DH watches them way too much. I usually let him go to see them at the movies with someone else and I would wait until we bought the dvd.

However, I finally read all of the books last year. Couldn't hardly put them down. Loved them and now love Harry Potter. I am now full-blown, can't wait excited to see the new movie coming out.

I've also read through the series again this past month to prepare for the new movie.

I've enjoyed both, and like most everyone else, take the movies for what they are; what they lack in details from the books they make up for in the richness of the sets. From what I've seen of the trailers/clips, it appears Deathly Hallows will allow for a lot more detail given that it's split.

Our entire family loves both the books and the movies, although, as many have said, you really have to look at them as separate entities.

The books have so much more detail, characters, backstory, etc. that would be impossible to put into the movies.

The movies, on the other hand, while they depart from the books, really adds to the story in a more tangible, certainly visible way. And some of the characterizations are just wonderful.

We loved Richard Harris as Dumbledore, and would have loved to see his interpretation of the latter movies.

We also like Alan Rickman as Snape, Gary Oldman as Sirius Black, and Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix.

I love, love, love the series. I've read the books a few times and then crossed over to listening to them on CD when I'm driving around running errands or cooking dinner. At the moment I am listening to "The Order of the Phoenix" on Cd and hope to finish them all up before we go to see it over the Thanksgiving weekend.

I really love the movies, well all of them except the Prisoner of Azkaban, I liked it but can't say love. I didn't like that they changed the visual look of Hogwarts and I just didn't care for the overall feel of the film. The others were better IMHO, still, I just always wanted more of the background story, the Burrow and the headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix. It always seemed such a shame to me to gloss over all the characters and spells JK Rowling put so much time into developing. I would have preferred it if each film were either broken into 2 films or lengthened considerably.

I like the films.
I love the books.

I must remember that the films aren't like the books. Because when I forget, I get annoyed when important plot details or integral character development is not included in the movies.

My family and I are huge HP fans! Loved all of the books, especially how JK Rowling was able to put together such a tight story, everything works well.

The movies are fabulous! I know they don't include all the details of the books (which is why I love the books better) but they are really well done.

Daniel Radcliffe is just as I pictured HP to be. He's done a great job in that role.

Love love love Emma Watson as Hermione! Perfectly cast IMO. And Ron is great as well, each movie he's gotten better and better I think.

All of the teachers are perfectly cast too. Loved them all with Snape, Dumbledore and Lupin being my favs.

The only disappointing character in the movies (casting wise) is Ginny. I don't think they cast her well, she's not spunky enough and it seems akward between her and Harry in the movies. Just my opinion.

Can't wait till the new one comes out, I'm so glad they split it into 2 movies. Deathly Hallows is full of info. and there's no way it could've been condensed into 1 movie.

There are a few things I dislike about the movies:

Harry kills Quirrell ON PURPOSE.

The part of the battle in Order of the Phoenix with the black and white smoke... what was that about?

Sirius's mirror, which is very important, is never shown or mentioned in any of the movies, but from previews will appear in Deathly Hallows.

There is a lot more, but these annoy me the most.

As a warning to parents taking their kids...the new movie has been described as VERY dark with some VERY disturbing moments. Just keep that in mind for the youngsters! But really it should be dark. The book certainly was.

Thanks for mentioning that. I was a bit worried about DS for just that reason, but he's actually agreed that he'd rather spend a couple of quality spoiling hours with his grandparents while DH and I see it this time, and then watch it together when it comes out on video. He likes the earlier movies, but they do get darker as they go. (And he hasn't read that far yet, so it's not as if he's dying for it to come out.)


OP - I love the movies! Of course I had my share of "why-did-they-have-to-leave-THAT-out" moments (because I love the books too) but in general, I thought they were well done and the casting matched my mental pictures fairly well. A couple of sets were different than I envisioned them, but it certainly didn't spoil it for me. Sorcerer's Stone is a permanent fixture in my DVR.

I read that too and am only taking my DD11 to see it and leaving my younger 2 at home. I thought the Half Blood Prince was slightly dark too, it actually scared the poop out of my DD8 and DD7! DD11 is trying to get me to take her to the midnight showing tomorrow night!

My family didn't think it was as dark as #5 (where the bridge falls) but there are a few intense/scary parts. (PM me if you want details..) There was only really one thing that I found "disturbing" but I don't think it bothered them much. Lots of romance and kissing that they didn't like.

My kids are 9/11 (the theater was filled with kids) and they loved it.
