I've never read any of the books. I have really enjoyed the movies and own them all on DVD, though .

I just got done with Half Blood Prince (movie). DD wanted to watch it again and since it is "On Demand" on my HBO we can do that.

We were arguing book vs movie as we watched.

I just love the adult casting for the movie. That is the thing that makes me want to go see the movies.

I bought advance tickets for my 11 year old and I to see it at midnight tomorrow!!! Can't wait!!!!!

Its funny though, Order of the Phoneix was my favorite book and least favorite movie; Half Blood Prince my least favorite book and favorite movie. Not sure why that it is??

Isn't that interesting how that happens? Order of the Phoenix was my least favorite book but my favorite movie and Prisoner of Azkaban was my favorite book but least favorite movie.

I didn't mind the 6th movie, but my husband and I looked at each other and several times "I don't think this movie is supposed to make us laugh this much..."!

The 2 films per book plan should have been started w/ Goblet and gone forward from there. Goblet & Phoenix in particular weren't as satisfying as they could have been because of the details left out.

I'm another who loves the books and just likes the movies. I'd go to just to see Alan Rickman play Snape.

I was a little upset with movie #6 and the departures from the book - especially the scene where The Burrows was burned. What? Like they couldn't find enough in all the material they cut from Book 6 to put into a movie, that they felt they had to write stuff that never happened?

I like the books better (of course) but I love the movies. I have beef with some of the elements in the movies (uhh.. why did the Weasley's house burn down in #6?!) but it certainly doesn't stop me from enjoying those movies!!

DH and I are going to see Part One tonight at midnight and I'M SO EXCITED!

The films actually got me to read the books. By the end of Chamber, I had too many quesitons that weren't answered in the films. Once I started reading the books, it made the other films more interesting to me. Viscious cycle??? Perhaps...

I am looking forward to tomorrow night's release. I am really excited to see a lot of the Deathly Hallows elements put up on the screen and see what they've done with them. I've questioned if/how they were going to reintroduce Fleur and introduce Bill altogether (to my recollection, only Charlie has been mentioned in the films; I'm also curious how they'll handle Bill being part werewolf...). Will Dobby be in this one? To what capacity? How are they going to handle the nomad-edness of the 3? What parts will Dumbledore's backstory hold in the film? What are they going to do?? Will Luna be back? Etc.

The only disappointing character in the movies (casting wise) is Ginny. I don't think they cast her well, she's not spunky enough and it seems akward between her and Harry in the movies. Just my opinion.

And Jennasis - you've got a spot-on point as well. This one is the darkest of all. Both my kids LOVE Harry Potter, but they aren't allowed to watch anything past 4, and 3 and 4 HAVE TO BE the TV edit. DS is mad that I'm going, but I won't allow him to see the others yet!

I love the books and the movies. DW and I own all 6 movies, and all 7 books. Just recently finished watching all the movies again; be prepared for when the first part of Deathly Hallows comes out this weekend. Movies really brought the books to life. Makes you wish such places really existed so you can go there.

DW just finished all 7 books. I started reading them again as well. Forgot how many more details are in the book than in the movies. But then again, if you try to put all the details in the movies, then you would probably have a 5-6 hour movie for each book.

And I'm ok with that!!

I made the mistake of rereading Half Blood Prince right before I saw the movie. I really didn't enjoy the movie then but saw it a few months ago and enjoyed it more because the book wasn't so fresh in my mind.

I've been a bit disappointed in the last few movies, they could have been longer, we'd all watch regardless of how long they were, they seem to change things for no good reason. As another poster mentioned, burning the Burrows.

I enjoyed the books, my husband has not read any of the books, he goes to the movies because I like them. There have been times when he is just lost because without reading the books some parts of the movies make no sense.

I read that Harry and Hermine kiss in this movie, I sure don't remember that in the book. It should be interesting.

The Burrows burning really bothered me. Also, the lack of focus on Tonks and Lupin. Tonks has always been one of my favorite characters in the books, and the whole storyline of their marriage and the baby really moved the story, and Harry's growing maturity, along for me. I think it was a shame they left so much of that out. I am still completely psyched for this movie!

It's not real - it's a manifestation of Ron's worst nightmare, part of the visions he gets when trying to destroy the locket Horcrux. It's in the book too but I have to admit that the movie version was kind of different from the way it appeared in the book...

Someone on another board once said that what she hopes happens is that in about 10-20 years (when the entire of the original Harry Potter generation has kids who are the age to read Harry Potter) the BBC will film Harry Potter as a TV series.

I think it would be a brilliant idea. If each series could be about 10 - 20 episodes (hopefully Jo Rowling would be amenable to sketching out additional little side plots to fill out the first two or three years), and maybe split the last 2 books into 2 series each.

The series could follow the plots of the books more closely and even expand on the books.

I read books 1-3 years ago, then put them aside until I started reading them again recently. I'm almost done with book 5. I think the movies do a wonderful job condensing so much in 2.5 hours. They change some things but the overall story is not changed in the least. I compare this to my disappointment with the Narnia movies, and how they make changes that completely alter the story, and it makes me appreciate the HP movies even more.

There are a few things I dislike about the movies:

Harry kills Quirrell ON PURPOSE.

The part of the battle in Order of the Phoenix with the black and white smoke... what was that about?

Sirius's mirror, which is very important, is never shown or mentioned in any of the movies, but from previews will appear in Deathly Hallows.

There is a lot more, but these annoy me the most.

Interesting. These things never bothered me.

For me, the most annoying things that were left out are the house elves (all of them, including Winky), Dumbledore's Funeral and Bill and Fleur's/Tonks and Lupin's love stories.

ITA Movies 5 & 6 were my least favorite because I felt so letdown on what I thought would be the most "exciting" scenes. In particular, in Half Blood Prince, the scene in the tower with Dumbledore.

In the book the battle between the Death Eaters, especially Fenrir the werewolf, vs Remus, Bill Weasley, etc was amazing....they left all of it out of the movie?? To me it would have been a wonderful action scene for the movie and tied things in for the next movie. Same with Dumbledores funeral.

I know they can't include everything but I do feel as though the later movies have left out a little too much and focused on things less important.
