Harry Potter Book 7 *SPOILERS*

One of my first questions when i was done was who was the person who came to magic late in life ? did i miss something ?

DH thought there was something really wrong when i was reading about Dobby it uspet me soooo much. And so did Fred even though I knew one on the twins were going to die.

I was happy with all background on Dumbledore showing he wasn't perfect. and that Snape was good.

I am guees Draco was the person who got a reprive with Harry getting his wand instead of kiling him to become master of the elderwand ?

A couple characters I was surprised were missing: Moaning Myrtle and Fawkes. I thought sure Fawkes would come back to Harry, esp after Hagrid died.

What book are you reading? Hagrid didn't die.

ETA: Did you mean Hedwig maybe?

I really liked that she humanized Dudley. I was shocked when Hedwig died. I also wish she hadn't killled both Lupin and Tonks, I think one would have been enough. I do like how we got all the questions answered about Dumbledore and Snape. I felt deep down that Snape was a good guy. I never imagined that he had known and loved Lily since they were so young.

I didn't find the epilogue cheesey, I liked it. I would have liked to have known what their careers were, but I like knowing they lived happily ever after.

For me she dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's.

I can see some parents being upset at all the deaths though, she does take out alot of characters, but then war does that.

I couldn't help thinking what a wicked movie could be made from this book! It should be about 4 hours long!

He looked much more muscular than obese in the chapter illustration . I still would like to know what the dementors made him see.

I'm sure that Albus Severus is going into Slytherin. Hooray for Slytherin!
Why? His initials are ASP, like the snake.

Snape just killed me. Can't wait to see Mr. Rickman work his magic on those scenes.

And I want page 705 in the movie very much, because I am a naughty, naughty girl.

I'm wondering if she left an opening for another series of books in between where this one ended and the epilogue. Or maybe a series about the next generation at Hogwarts.

OMG!! When Ron came back, just rocked.

Ron and Hermoine on I think page 725.

Dobby saving everyone

Snape being vindicated.

I've been reading these books for 10 years now and what a ride it has been. All bow to the greatness that is JK Rowling. :worship: :worship: :worship:

The Canadian version has no illustrations. I feel ripped off!

All those deaths- devastating!! I cried over Fred, Dobby, Lupin, Tonks, Moody, Snape, and Hedwig. Somehow, Colin Creevy' death hurt just as much- even though he was a pretty minor character. I guess his age and the fact that it just came out of left field- such a huge shock!- really got to me.

I must go and read it again- this time, really lingering over all the delicious little details that make the Potter books so great.

"Always." killed me. I think I'm mourning Snape more than any other character. He and Sirius both had incredibly sad lives.

I actually sobbed when Harry called his son by his full name at the end- Albus Severus Potter. A fitting thing, to join the names of those 3 wizards together in the future generation.

Ok, loved the book, and it couldn't have ended any other way...

Did anyone else yelp outloud when Mrs. Weasly yelled "Not my daughter, you *word that rhymes with witch, but isn't*"!

I literally wooted outloud and DH came running to see what was wrong :lmao: Totally unexpected, but I LOVED it!

My bet is a series about the kids.

Finished the book about 30 minutes ago. Whew! It is my favorite of the lot, even though the body count was high (and one of my favorite characters - Fred - was among them).

I loved the epilogue (I am a sucker for happy endings), but I too would like to know the careers of Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny. Glad to see Neville became a professor.

I hope she does a series about the next generation. I'm not ready to leave Hogwarts yet!

Will definitely read the book again, immediately... and slower this time.

i'll have to go back and read it again, but it just felt odd to me. especially the end.

I will have to go back and read it again too. It was a good book, but I was left unsatisfied at the end. All this build up and they cast one spell at each other and BLAH Voldy's dead... ummm... anti climatic!

I also hated how the end-end was. Yea we killed Voldy... oh there's Ginny... oh lets talk to Ron and Herminie and skip talking to Ginny... oh it's 19 years later. WTH! I waited the whole dang book to see what would happen to him and Ginny, to see the tears, to see Ron finally REALLY approve, and.... NOTHING!!!!!!

Grrr... just felt let down the entire book. It felt choppy and unfinished...

Guess I'll give it another read though.

I can't believe no one's mentioned Hedwig! She was the first casualty and I was STUNNED.

She was the second casualty of the book Burbage was the first.

I am in awe over how well written this book was. It wrapped up so many strings but yet opened new doors that had not been looked at before with Dumbledore.

Just finished about an hour ago....A few thoughts:

- "Not my daughter you @$!@" is the best line in any book I've ever read. :lmao:

- Ron and Hermione (duh ;) ) finally getting together was so much better than the anti-climax it could have been.

- I couldn't put the book down. MUCH faster paced than anything else she's written. From the escape from Privet Drive on, I knew I'd be finishing the book today. :teeth:

- Severus Snape will go down as one of the great literary characters of all time. Just ridiculously well done on Rowling's part!

- There were some unanswered questions (Dudley & the dementors, the person that "comes to magic late in life", their professions after they're grown), but there were bound to be with a story this complex. For me, I'm relatively satisfied with how she tied things up.

- A lot of people talking about the number of deaths...keep in mind, Jo has always used parallels with the real world, and in the real world, people die - often pointlessly - in war. That she portrays that through the deaths of Lupin, Tonks, and Colin Creavy only makes the story that much more real.

- I gasped several times while reading, but the loudest was during that final scene, when Harry was telling Riddle about the wand. Just a great twist there. And how appropriate that it was Riddle's own desire to kill that lead to his own death? Harry didn't try to kill him...only to disarm. Dumbledore would have been proud!

I'll probably give it a day to digest, then re-read the book at a slower pace. But upon first reading, I'd have to say this is my favorite book of the series.

Two words "LOVED IT" just finished reading the book, now DH is just beginning, and we can talk about each chapter when he finishes reading it. I have never cried so much reading a book as I did with this one. The Snape story line made me the saddest. He has always been one of my favorite characters and I knew he wasn't evil !!!:thumbsup2 Can't wait to see how the movie ends up.
