Harmony Barber Shop

we used it last Sept. Two kid's cuts and two just pixie dust. They couldn't book all 4 at the same time, they had to book 2 and then 2 about 30 min. later. They had 2 cm's, a 3rd came in about half way through. We ended up waiting at least 30 min. Both cm's had customers when we came in and, of course, they finished with them. Both customers had family members who also wanted haircuts, so they took them next. After that, they got to us. I felt bad for the people who were already waiting when we came in, they got pushed back after us. The cm's explained they had to take reservations first and luckily noone complained. I just made reservations for June and had to book the kids 2 at a time again. This time our reservations are for 9 and 9:30 a.m. so the wait shoud be minimal. I was actually surprised, I thought the shop didn't open until 10.

We've been twice and in the off season, first thing in the morning, we din't have to wait long at all. If Penny is there, wait for her. She is Amazing!!!

Just called this afternoon and booked my little one for her first haircut on Feb 26th! :yay:

They did ask for your credit card incase you cancel they will charge you $10 if you don't cancel the day before your reservation.

As opposed to waiting in line for an hour and a half for a haircut? :confused3
Firstly we've never waited more than a half an hour. Secondly we are not planners, we tend to go with the flow and don't like to be tied down by resies/ADR's. So what used to be "hey we are in the MK today lets go see about haircuts" is now "Hey lets go to the MK 6 months from now and get a haircut at 3:00 on Thursday and hope something else hasn't come up and there is another park we'd rather be in." and now we're locked into being there at that time. I just don't want to schedule every experience of my vaca. And for those who say it won't be an issue just look at the TS restaurants before and after the advent of the ADR's.
I know thats this is a small thing but it was a small thing that I truly enjoyed that WDW is turning into a hassle.

We went right after rope drop to get my DS first haircut. There was no line and we got to see chip and dale before they went out into the streets to meet everyone else.

Okay, I just booked and asked for pixie dust only and she said she could only enter it as a haircut. We don't want haircuts. Plus, I had read that pixie dust was only $7.50 vs. haircut $15.98. When you got there did you just tell them that you only wanted pixie dust, what was the cost?

Thanks.

Can anyone tell me where they are located? I want to take my 16 month old there for his first cut in October.

When you call to make a reservation you are getting a call center which may be several states away and the people there only know what they are told, not everything.

Actually the coloring plus Pixie (or Pirates) Dust is $7.50 and having to wait your turn. If you just want a dusting there is no charge and no wait, but that is just a sprinkling.

When you enter MK go through the left tunnel. It is just pass Town Hall, between the Fire Station and The Emporium.

Sorry to bump an old-ish thread, but I figured it was better than making a new one for the same topic (PLUS, it proves I can use the search function! :thumbsup2)

If I take DD in to have her first haircut (well, make a reservation... THRILLED that we're able to do that), will they give us back the hair to keep? I'd like it for her baby book.

She doesn't really NEED a cut since it's still thin & trying to fill in, but I can't resist having something else to celebrate. Just a little trim will work.

For the First Haircut you get a special set of Mickey Ears, a Certificate suitable for framing, and a fair amount of the hair back as a souvenier. As well as Mickey stickers and Pixie (or Pirate) Dust.

One important thing to remember at the MK Barber Shop. When they removed the old antique cash register and put in a terminal to allow use of credit cards and hotel charges and the like they hooked into The Emporium's network. The register, unlike ones in table service restaurants, cannot handle tips as part of the transaction.

So if you are planning on using the Harmony Barber Shop please be aware that if you are using any sort of card you cannot add a tip on the card and should have cash available for tipping.

We are doing the same thing, our 7 month old daughters hair is just starting to fill in but we couldn't resist having her first haircut there, or very teeny tiny trim as my wife calls it lol. This Saturday at 1 is her appointment.

Sooo glad I found this thread! I was already dreading the wait for my ds's first haircut. Hopefully I can get in for the days will be in MK in March. I am sure my ds 4 will want to get a haircut too. He LOVES to have his hair cut!

Yes, they will give you some hair in a tissue. I suggest bringing a small baggie with you as well. That's what we did. We had DS's first haircut there in Dec. You will not be dissapointed, it was the best experience and the Mickey ears are sooo cute.

We had our daughter's first hair cut in June of 2010 at MK. We walked in about noonish, there was only one other person in the chair. She went straight into the chair. It was wonderful!!! Tons of stickers, a light up toy, lots of fun, mickey ears, a certificate, pixie dust for her, and pirate dust for her brothers. No tears! Loved it!!princess:

Adorable pictures, SnipsNSnails!! Thanks for the tip about bringing a little baggy to keep the hair in. It's on my packing list now. :thumbsup2

I'm so excited to take DD for her first haircut! Hopefully she does ok. She's a ridiculously timid kid. But I notice they give her stickers to play with... all is right in the world if DD has stickers to play with, lol.

This Saturday at 1 is her appointment.

We have an appointment this Saturday at 1 pm also! My 5-year old will be getting his hair cut and I'm considering adding my DD (18 mos) for her first haircut.

See you there!

Side note:

I was just on the Disney official website and this is listed in the tours section.

Prior DIS'ers said that they now take ressies but I just wanted to pass along that it is on the website stating as such.

Too funny - we have a 2pm reservation for our three year old son and are from CT as well!

I am trying to talk my 12yo into getting his haircut there as he really needs it. We will see how the wait is.

We did this for our son. It's a great photo-op and the lady did a good job cutting his hair. The reservation is needed. We walked by at least 5-6 people waiting. One woman lost her mind...

How funny! We'll probably see you there too! :thumbsup2

I called this morning to get a reservation for DD but they couldn't accommodate the two kids at once. We'd either have to have both the kids in at 3:30 (which is naptime) or have DS's hair cut at 1 and DD at 2:30. Spending all afternoon at HBS really wasn't what we had in mind! I think I'll take my chances as a walk-in when we are there at 1 for DS' appointment.
