Thinking of taking my 13 mo old to the Harmony Barber Shop to get her first hair cut - as something special for her to do in WDW.
I read on here that it would be a really cute thing to do. Anyone have any experiance with taking young kids there? Even if she doesn't have a lot of hair at the time, will they do something special for her for her first hair cut?

Is there a long wait to get in or do you have to make appointments? We are going to WDW the week after labor day.

TIA

I would say get there early. We thought it would be fun but tried 3 separate days to get in there but we weren't willing to wait the 30-45 minutes to get in. Good luck! It would be worth the wait for a first haircut!

We took my grandson (2) for a haircut there during our January trip. It was awesome! The barber kept dgs still and entertained by giving him a very long strip of Mickey stickers. DGS was very absorbed in plastering stickers all over his body:goodvibes. It really surprised us how well he sat for the haircut. After cutting his hair, the barber put gel and confetti on the top of his head. It was adorable!

I don't know if you can make appts. I think it's a first come, first serve kind of thing. We just kept checking back until the line length was acceptable to us.

We took my DS there to get his first haircut when he was 11mo old. It was awesome! They gave him a special certifcate and kept locks of his hair for us to take home and gave him a pair of "first haircut" mickey ears when we were done! We have taken him back there everytime we go! Great experience!

We're planning the same thing for our DD, who will be 2 1/2. We've been saving her first haircut for WDW. Anyone know the hours?

We took my 20 month old Grandson a few weeks ago for a haircut in the Barber shop and it was great. They were so great with him since he was a little nervous. Since he got his hair cut Grandpa decided he needed a haircut also. :) We went in right after the 3:00 parade and there was no one inside. By the time we were done there were 3 or 4 people waiting. Have fun.

We took our 18 month old son there back in January. We went early in the morning but were not the first ones there and had a 15-20 minute wait. Not too bad I guess. We had our son's hair cut before at home, but it needed it again. The CM asked if it was his first hair cut. I said, "Well, it's his first at WDW." She asked again with a funny look on her face, "So, it's his first hair cut right." "Oh, Yes," I replied finally understanding what she was getting at. As long as we said it was his first haircut, she gave us the "first haircut" treatment. That included a nice certificate and an child's set of WDW mouse ears with "First Haircut" embroidered on them.

Our son wasn't too excited about the haircut and fidgeted a bit...but he did like all the stickers that got put on his shirt.

It was a really nice thing in the end. I'd go again if I needed a trim.

One important thing to remember at the MK Barber Shop. When they removed the old antique cash register and put in a terminal to allow use of credit cards and hotel charges and the like they hooked into The Emporium's network. The register, unlike ones in table service restaurants, cannot handle tips as part of the transaction.

So if you are planning on using the Harmony Barber Shop please be aware that if you are using any sort of card you cannot add a tip on the card and should have cash available for tipping.

We went there this past March with our DS8 and DD7. There was a family with their approx. 1 yr old youngster for a first haircut. It was adorable! He got stickers, a certificate, some of his hair and the First Haircut Mickey Ears. Photo ops galore, that's for sure!

We were at MK for the rope drop and went directly to the Barber Shop. It wasn't open yet and there was one man waiting on the bench reading a book. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how he got there far enough ahead of his to plug his ipod into his ears and read! Then when I overheard him talking to his barber, I realized he was a CM and went there routinely for his haircuts. So he must have been able to get into the park prior to opening. There are only two barbers who work there, by the way. That's why lines can get long.

And by the way-- we didn't have our kids' hair trimmed or cut at all. They gelled DD's hair with different colors of gel and then added MAJOR "pixie dust" to the top of her head and pony tail, and sprayed the living daylights out of it! :cutie: For DS, they spiked his hair up and put a blue gel Mickey head on the back. It was so much fun. I think we paid $10 for each, plus tip. The kids got great attention from CM's and other guests alike.

We're planning on doing this with DD for her first hair cut when we're there in May. She'll only be 10 months old but her hair is already half way down her face! So she so needs a hair cut already. We're really looking forward to it! Would love to see more pics if people have them!

My son got his first haircut in November. Penny the barber was soooo great! He sat so still for her. So calm. I wished I could bring her with me! It was one of the most magical moments of all of our Disney trips. The First Haircut ears are soooo cute. And for $14 or $15 it is a bargain for Disney. Also, my DH took the little guy to his barber recently, and I am sure that Penny in WDW gave him the better cut!!

One funny/annoying thing that happened that day... We were there for rope drop, and were going to head straight for the Barber Shop. My DH had my DS in his arms and was right there, literally with his foot on the curb, about 5 feet away from walking in, when this "lady" comes from behind him, RUNNING, dragging her 40-something y/o husband, hollering, "Come on, you have to be first to get your haircut, we have to ride Dumbo first thing, and blah blah first, I gotta be first, blah blah." (I swear! I have it on my video b/c I was about 10 feet behind my family taping it) They ran right in front of my husband and she plopped her hubby in the seat. They have 2 seats so we plopped DS in the other one, but the whole time I kept thinking what a jack*** that chick was.

curious... how much does it cost for an adult male to get a haircut there?
