"I" didn't handle the situation, although I was present when it was being handled by my DD & DSIL.. They brought her back over here and explained that it was a "game" that they didn't really approve of and then went on to discuss the dangers of "peer pressure" and doing things just because someone else encourages it.. She was a little upset when they told her that any further play time with this 9 yr. old would have to take place over here from now on but I think she understood why..
Next weekend they're going to have a gentle talk with the 9yr. old and leave it at that for now.. The grandparents are going through a terrible time at the moment.. "Grandpa" recently had a serious heart problem (among other health issues) and was hospitalized so they could insert a stent.. "Grandma" had been undergoing chemo for terminal ovarian cancer but ended up in the hospital earlier in the week because the chemo has severely damaged her heart muscles.. They've had to stop her chemo completely and won't know until after some tests are done this week whether she'll be able to start the chemo again with a different drug or just have to halt it all together.. Everyone is very upset (me included) because the halting of the chemo will hasten the end - yet to continue it will result in a fatal heart attack.. Certainly not the time to heap more worries on their plate, so we'll just handle it ourselves from this end..
DD & DSIL handled it exactly the way I would have, but I was curious to see how others might handle it.. Looks like the chosen method is the way most other folks would have handled it as well.. Raising kids certainly never gets "easier".. I'm glad my days of raising my own children are DONE - LOL..
