there is a rumor on the resort boards - that WDW will not have any codes this year on their WDW resort.

DVC is looking better and better!!!

I just posted on that thread that I'm so happy we finally bought the DVC so I don't have to worry about codes!!! Another reason I am so happy with our purchase!!

As of about a month ago, aren't there codes out til sometime up to 4/05? Rooms only and packages?

I felt the same exact way. The anxiety finally had left my body the day they called me to tell me I passed ROFR.

Now, if only Universal would build a DVC equivalent! Maybe Disney is following Universal- they haven't released any AP rates and are filling their rooms at rack rates.

I am still hoping for good AP rates. We have never gotten APs before but plan to with the new discount. While we love DVC, I kinda feel sad that we have only tried a couple of the WDW resorts. We mostly stayed off site in T/Ss before. We would love to add on a day or two here and there to our DVC trips to be able to try AKL, CR, and revisit the Poly. I have heard people already have codes through April, and I think Disney will continue them if the resorts are not full. I personally know lots of people that will stay off site to save money and I think more will do this if they have to pay rack rate. We are a family of 6 so we have to get 2 rooms. The DVC 2 bedroom is great, but like I said we want to try other resorts sometimes too :guilty:

Well, the AP codes are already out for Jaunary and first half of February.

I just checked out the Resort board for the first time in a long while, and my goodness! I'd forgotten the steady, on-going quest for room rates, codes, PINs, AAA discounts, AP rates, etc. I agree with the spicey one; it makes DVC seem that much nicer!

As long as Disney has unoccupied rooms at times they were hoping to fill them, they will issue discount codes.

And even with DVC in our vacation portfolios, I still like codes for those weekend nights and for trying other Disney resorts. So I'm still in the code hunt, but only for extra nights.

I don't think they are going to eliminate discounts. The rack rates are incredibly high, I can't imagine them filling rooms at those rates. For example, a standard room at the moderates in March is $188 including tax. No way it's worth that much. They will just chase people offsite.

I have my 2 annual DVC trips, which are great not to worry about rates. But I usually have a friends trip each year where we stay at a regular resort.

Since there are already codes out there, the rumor is already false!

Not to mention that I've seen them other times - i.e. when they released the fall rates really late one year.

I wouldn't put much stock in those rumors, not to say that DVC still isn't nice!

If there is any truth to the rumor, I bet the off site hotels are very happy! I can't imagine Disney giving off site hotels such an advantage, but you never know. I'll be watching MouseSavers.com to be sure.

Greetings!

I just want to step in for a minute and issue a polite reminder. We here on the DIS are a very small and, er, very dedicated ;) minority when compared to the vast number of people who vacation at WDW every year. The vast majority of Disney guests don't know about codes, the DIS, PINs, renting DVC points, mousesavers.com, AP discounts, etc. Their sole source of information on WDW is from Disney marketing: TV commercials, newpaper ads, Christmas parades, and their sole point of contact is either 1.407.WDISNEY or a travel agent (and maybe a few are brave enough to book a multi-thousand dollar vacation on-line). So while a few of us may make our vacation decisions based on code availability, Disney offering fewer discounts is NOT going to cause a noticable exodus to off-site resorts.

Personally I feel that, if Disney starts seeing lots of vacancies, of course they'll start offering discounts. However, I also believe that Disney would love to start weaning guests from their code-dependencies ::wink::, so if occupancy rates are fairly high, they might bite the bullet now and minimize/eliminate discounts.

IMHO - YMMV

This was just announced - makes the rumor even more unfounded.

Annual Passholder February-April 2005 Room-Only Discount Code

WDW Annual Passholders can ask for Code BEX and get special discounted rates at select Walt Disney World resorts for check-ins 2/17/05—4/16/05. These discounts are supposedly available only for Sunday-Thursday check-ins

The purpose of codes is to make sure they capture people who don't travel often and don't have decent travel agents...that type of person will pay rack rate or whatever the rate is in the package. They will still have sales for those times they have a lower than desired occupancy rate. Its just the nature of the industry.

And I'll be looking for offsite or code discounts anytime I'll be staying Friday and Saturday night. The point differential is just too ridiculous to not do it. I figure I'll hang on to DVC another five or ten years and it isn't worth the $4,000 plus maintenance to buy an add-on (although I wish I had bought one at $72 per point...).

I loved the thrill of the hunt for codes.... kinda miss it.

I booked our first DVC stay with a code... Rack for a 2 bedroom was 489, code made it 269. I was tickled pink! The momment we arrived at OKW, we fell in love and bought into DVC. SO I have only had one opportunity to search out codes and I loved it..... ::::sigh::::

Maybe Disney will cut back on the magazine codes, but keep the AP codes rolling...

the new AP code is only for Sun-thurs - sounds like they are expecting DVC to buy a lot of AP's....

On the Universal hotels - I have found that the email letters than Loew's sends out are better than the universal site, Annual passes, or entertaiment codes - but I have only received 2 emails....

Actually it's for all nights, but the best available nights are Sun-Thurs.
