My husband got me two rats for our first Valentine’s Day together twenty-some years ago. I named them Hugs and Kisses. None of the gifts since have ever compared to that one.Hubs and I save our Valentines dinner for after one of my shifts this weekend when I'm tired, don't want to cook, and can appreciate it. Today I have a new little friend that I found being rehomed on Craigslist that I'm adding to my mischief and I'm hoping introductions go well. He's been alone for a while as his owner had him housed by himself and surrendered him for financial care reasons. Might rename him Valentine for the occasion.

My 23 year old DS's girlfriend broke up with him yesterday, one day after they got back from a trip to the Dominican, his Christmas gift to her. We’re not romantics. I’ll probably try to talk him into making dinner (I’m thinking Carne Asada and fresh Pico) and he’ll pretend to put up a fight.
Got the kids a little gift and some candy. Don’t expect any Valentine angst from them (they’re 14), no crushes that I’m aware of.
Awe, that’s awful. My 23 year old DS's girlfriend broke up with him yesterday, one day after they got back from a trip to the Dominican, his Christmas gift to her.Wonderful, huh?
If it's any help, one of my cyber grrls announced with great joy the engagement of her Navy Seal DS to a young lady he'd known for a really short time (maybe a month?). She asked us if it was "proper" to give the young lady some of her family jewelry as an engagement gift. Fortunately for her the "majority ruling" was to wait until a wedding anniversary or two or three had passed. Good thing that's what she opted to do since young lady called off the wedding a week before it happened. Love can stink at times. My 23 year old DS's girlfriend broke up with him yesterday, one day after they got back from a trip to the Dominican, his Christmas gift to her.Wonderful, huh?
Background noise in this household is TCM, LOL. Unfortunately, nothing of interest to all of us on the channel tonight so I guess I'll set up PBS Passeport on the TV set and binge on Jane Austen's unfinished manuscript "Sanditon".Not really. We've got steak and potatoes for dinner, and we're watching the second half of Gone with the Wind.
Back in the fall, I decided we would work our way through all of the movies which won Academy Awards for Best Picture, starting with the first one (a silent film) from 1928. We're now in 1940, and DH is generally putting up with me for this project. It's been interesting to see the filming differences, but also the censoring changes (there wasn't strong censorship through the "Production Code" until the mid 1930's)
Next is an Alfred Hitchcock movie, Rebecca -- I'm psyched because I've never seen an Alfred Hitchcock movie!
Enjoy "Rebecca"! It really secured Joan Fontaine's place and brought Hitchcock's talent to America.![]()
