Happy Valentine’s Day! Any Plans?

DH and I exchanged cards and a couple of small gifts today. We also went to our favorite bar at a local casino for a couple of drinks.

Tomorrow, we're meeting with our middle son's wife and her parents and her siblings for lunch. We met her parents at this place 6 years ago before the kids got married.

It's DS (9th) birthday tmw, so did a V-Day/B-DAY combo at Outback with the kids , and brought home some valentine's Dunkin - now dad and daughter cake bake for him -

 On my drive home this afternoon, the radio host was wishing people a "Happy Hallmark Day". That's probably not original but I've never heard it before and it gave me a chuckle.

The other day, a local radio station (and yes.. these are radio djs.. so take this for what its worth) were claiming a survey of couples under 30, who have been dating for less than 6 months, spend on average, $700 per person on Valentines day.. I'm just glad my wife and I are using the same $2.99 card from 14 years ago.. :D

Alert the media! The man brought home the wrong sized and quantity of shrimps this morning (despite my sending a large font text...sigh) so I changed the main course from curried shrimp and leeks to shrimp scampi w/ leeks.
Guess he wanted me to get excited about something....

Hopefully this makes you feel a little bit better.....I get to go to work, where I'm estimating I'll get to deal with 15-20 tweens sobbing in the bathrooms because they didn't get valentines from their crush, and then after school we have a basketball tournament all evening, where I get to coach (although with my hubby, so I guess sitting on a bench together could be romantic)
Livin' the dream :P

(Happy Family Day!! We're in Edmonton so are looking forward to the long weekend too!)

DS12 doesn't have school today because it's a school staff development day. I wonder if what you said is why.

I had rented a hotel room so I could spend some alone time with my husband.

We stayed the night but I am now coming down with a cold so I was miserable all night coughing and sneezing and hurting from head to toe.

We’ll take a rain check and try again Another time.
Sorry about that. We had to abort such an evening once when we were in bed and my DH accidentally whacked me in the nose with his elbow. While it didn't require an ER visit, it really hurt and there was blood everywhere.

Our current tradition is a family breakfast for dinner with the kids. I make strawberry sauce and a puffed oven pancake while my DH takes care of the bacon, eggs, and sausage. For dessert, we have chocolate-covered strawberries. We had to postpone this year because DS8 and I have a stomach bug.

We’re in Vegas and heading out on a double date with my son and his girlfriend. We have reservations at Beauty & Essex and there’s a bar they’ve picked out. I have a dress that I bought a year ago and it’s way too sparkly to wear anywhere but Vegas so I’m excited to get dressed up. We’ve been married 26 years and stopped celebrating Valentine’s Day about 20 years ago. Should be a fun night.

I bought and cooked little filet mignons wrapped in bacon and jumbo lump crab cakes. Plus some chocolate covered strawberries for dessert.

Got DW a card (and also one from the dog/cats) but she specifically stated NO flowers. She says she rather get flowers unexpectedly on a random day.

I bought the greeting cards about two weeks ago. About 530pm today at the supermarket there were about 7 or 8 men frantically searching for the right card. And many were buying flowers too.

As for chocolates, we'll see what's on clearance this weekend.

Nothing really; just eating at home and relaxing with Netflix. We have a dinner reservation tomorrow night with one of my daughter’s because it‘s parents weekend at her college.

My other daughter is studying in Italy this semester ; she has been there for almost a month and said the majority of the food they have had has been Italian....so for Valentines tonight they were going to McDonald’s and they were very excited! Lol!

Today was pretty fun. School went really good with the kids. Then we hit the library and had Taco Bell for lunch. DH is picking up dinner. I bought him a shirt, candy, and lunch today.

Not really. We've got steak and potatoes for dinner, and we're watching the second half of Gone with the Wind.

Back in the fall, I decided we would work our way through all of the movies which won Academy Awards for Best Picture, starting with the first one (a silent film) from 1928. We're now in 1940, and DH is generally putting up with me for this project. It's been interesting to see the filming differences, but also the censoring changes (there wasn't strong censorship through the "Production Code" until the mid 1930's)

Next is an Alfred Hitchcock movie, Rebecca -- I'm psyched because I've never seen an Alfred Hitchcock movie!
Pretty off topic, but it is me :lmao:, they did make a musical of Rebecca. It never made it to Broadway due to funding, but it was a huge hit in Germany. Thankfully there is a translated concept album that is on youtube,

DH and I took the love languages quiz a while ago and his love language is acts of service. So I tried to think of acts of service to do for him today. I took the dog on an early walk (DH is usually on morning walk duty) and I drove to get lunch from DH’s favorite restaurant which is ridiculously far away but he loves it. This afternoon I ran an errand for him and then I got his car washed.

DH got me flowers and candy, and he made a fancy dinner and set the table nicely. I feel lucky to be with someone who likes to celebrate the holidays like I do. We’ve been together for 11 years and have 3 kids but still enjoy a little romance every now and then!

We were in Italy in the summer and had McDonald's too. People that we were nuts when they heard we went to one there. While, yes, italian food is amazing....we wanted food from home after being there so long(Hubby had been there months for work and I visited for over 3 weeks). We really craved mexican food, which we eat alot of at home), it was even hard to find ingredients to make some of our favorite mexican foods. 🤣

Had friends (former neighbors) arrive from FL on the train at 6 a.m. We all went to dinner this evening which was fun. One of the ladies in the group is making a dish tomorrow night that she grew up having which will have octopus and mussels in it. Definitely NOT telling the other invited guests what's in the dish until AFTER they try it. Should be a fun evening. :teeth:

6 am. what time did they get on the train, did you have to pick them up at 6, are they staying at your house nw / and good move not mentioning the octopus (thats a fun word to say)

Today was ok. We don't go all out for the 'Hallmark ' holiday.

I work at church and I had to go in early to prepare for the funeral of a 49 year old wife and mother. Put a damper on the whole day.

Got home from work/the funeral and dh and I went for a late lunch at 2:30 at Longhorns Steakhouse. The timing was good as we missed the lunch crowd and were too early for the dinner rush.

Came home, Dh finished about 2 hours of work and we've completed and filed our college sons' taxes tonight. We'll have to pay abt $600 on scholarship $

Pretty ordinary day.

The poor souls got on the train at 6 pm and had a 12 hour ride. Tried to tell them to drive their car instead, but they'd never been on a train before. Nope...my butt sure wasn't at the train station at 6 a.m. DH gets up early and was happy to fetch them, take them to breakfast etc.

We don’t really get into Valentine’s Day. Went to lunch together but really just b/c we both had the time at work today. Then tonight was the first night of Mardi Gras parades so we took DS out there tonight. Judging by the crowds seems like that’s his a lot of ppl here spent Valentine’s Day.

My wife and I (along with our 2-year old son) are going to an early dinner at Applebee's after work. Applebee's seems like a safe choice since we'll have our son with us, and going early should avoid some of the crowds. I got my wife some flowers and chocolate last night, and went ahead and gave it to her. I figured she can enjoy the chocolate and flowers today when I'm at work. We got our son a magnetic letter set for the refrigerator, and a few small chocolates (we don't want him bouncing off the walls, lol.)
That is so sweet you got your son something. My daughters had the magnetic letters several years ago. Be very careful he doesn't put them in his mouth , thorough.

:goodvibes You got lucky with that one! I want them on all the "prescribed" occasions AND unexpectedly on random days. I love getting flowers! :flower3:

Me and hubby heading to Disney in a few hours for the long weekend (my birthday weekend too).
Dinner at The Boathouse tonight and just gonna stroll through Disney Springs a perfect Valentine's Day.

** Please keep the family of Parkland students in your thoughts and prayers today, its a hard day here in South Florida.
Bless all the fa
My 23 year old DS's girlfriend broke up with him yesterday, one day after they got back from a trip to the Dominican, his Christmas gift to her. :headache: Wonderful, huh?
I feel sorry for him. Someone better for him will be in his future. Encourage him to take his time in getting to know someone and enjoy being with them.
