Happy Or Unhappy That You Joined Dvc?

Are you happy or unhappy that you joined the Disney Vacation Club?

 • I am happy that I joined DVC.

 • I am unhappy that I joined DVC.

Results are only viewable after voting.
I think the results of this poll will help prospective buyers. The fact that there are a lot more happy members than unhappy ones seems obvious even if the "disboard effect" is taken into account. That has got to be reassuring.:bounce: :Pinkbounc :D

Probably a coincidence, but the percentage of no votes is exactly the same as the percentage of people who believe the earth is flat.:)

We joined in 1997 and have never once regretted it. We have added on 5 times. We are pretty sure we are done. We know we would have never have splurged on the type of accomodations that the DVC resorts allow us to experience if we had not joined. Simply put we are quite "spoiled" when it comes to hotels, resorts and accomodations and so are our DD's. It is difficult to stay at a non-dvc resort without secretly wishing it had a little disney magic. We are looking forward to our 3rd cruise this October. One big reason that we joined was the emphasis on family that Disney does so well, not just a certain age group but all generations are so welcomed and non need be offended. Also we felt with Disney behind this type of program it had to be top notch. We are always amazed at how much maintenance is going on at the resorts when we go "home". This is great because we are not doing it. This really assures us our dues are going for what they are supposed to We had heard the horror stories of other timeshare programs going under leaving the owners with little or nothing or buildings that were not maintained. Yes we are happy and most importantly satisfied with what we have received in return from our membership in the DVC.

Yes Im still hanging around this board. Im hoping as time goes by that my negative answer will change to positive. Hopefully we just had a rough 2yr start and this will change.

What has happened to cause you to vote 'not happy'?

Also, if anyone else is unhappy with their purchase, please state a few reasons for those of us that are looking to buy into DVC know what pitfalls to avoid.

Hey Arny,
Sent you a PM.

As I recall, imgoingtodisney's dissatisfaction with DVC has little to do with the normal operations of DVC but rather had to do with a complex set of circumstances largely out of the control of Disney in general involving a cruise that was cancelled due to worry over the norwalk virus and the difficulty in finding rooms for a weeklong stay that included thanksgiving weekend at the last minute... ie nothing to "worry" about for 99.9999% of dvd'ers.

My name says it all!! I enjoy the planning of my trips and getting info for them right here on the DIS boards.:Pinkbounc

Being in DVC has redefined the meaning of vacation for me. I really, truly, do VACATION when I am at OKW.

We are thrilled we belong to DVC.

Sue

PS - congrats to Rafael Palmeiro for hitting his 500th home run today!!!! (against the tribe, of course..)

Rafael Palmeiro is my favorite player! So, I'm definitely glad that he reached that milestone!

Umm....let's see how I can tie this back into DVC....umm...hey, isn't Rafael Palmeiro a DVC Member?

What about the other 5 who voted unhappy?

If you believe in the premise that "you can't please all of the people all of the time", then your question should be answered. There are some people that would complain about a free dinner. That's not a license for DVC to get sloppy, but 6 is a very small percentage.

Yes, it is a very small percentage. I might be wrong, but my understanding of the premise of the thread was to share experience both positive and negative to help potential purchasers. So, those folks who are unhappy, (besides, imgoingtodisney who's experience has already been communicated) may be able to help others avoid the same problem. Even though they apparently visit this forum in order to vote, none of the other 5 has shared thier story and reasons why they are not happy. I'm curious as to what those reasons are, they probably represent considerations potential purchasers should evaluate.

So, for the other 5 unhappy responses, how come?

Yes, you absolutely correct. That was the purpose for the thread. Unfortunately the other 5 didn't think it important to leave there reasons why, which leads me to question their credibility. If you are willing to answer a yes/no question, but not let others know why "no", then it couldn't be too serious a reason, or I am just so pro Disney I am blinded by the "Main Street Electric Light Parade". :smooth:

It doesn't strain credibility to me. There are several people on these boards who believe that negative views about Disney or DVC are not tolerated. There may be several past DVCers who have sold their interest who pop over here from time to time to vote "not happy." And the economy is poor right now - you could be the happiest DVCer in the world when you were employed and now unhappy because you have had to rent your points two years running - moving your satisfaction from happy to unhappy at the moment.

DVC is simply NOT for everyone. The resorts can be lovely in perfect condition, but if writing the dues check every month strains the budget, you might not be happy - and might be reluctant to share your current financial situation with the board. If you discover yourself "burned out" on Disney with too many points for the number of days you want to spend, you may not be "happy." (But you probably aren't hanging out here, either).

I am not dismissing the possibility that those votes are from jealous trolls.

Please excuse the spelling, as I'm on the laptop again. I have yet to figure out the spell check on this thing!

Well, without further explination of the not happy votes, your explination seems to be the most logical. Wonder why they would even bother visiting here.....
