Glasses!! u can tell the hardened drinkers on this thread Selina

- in England if someone says "let's have a whip"...they mean let's all put in (whip round everyone) e.g.£10 each/$20 - then one person keeps all the money (kitty) and buys all the "drinks" or sometimes to give that person a rest - he passes it to someone else to buy. It means that EVERYONE contributes to the drinks during the night out and not just a few people buying all the "rounds".......A "round" is what we call the drinks for the whole group/party of people.......so next time you come to England.......say "Let's have a whip and then I'll get in the next round"!! Obviously we only do this if there are a lot of people in the group. You wouldn't say it if you were with just a few....you would just buy a round yourself and likewise everyone would take turns - mind you.........it has been known for certain "tight-fisted" ones to stay until it's their turn to get the drinks in, then say they have to dash, and leave!!
I think that's when the whip is great !!
You probably call it something else over there....so now you know what I mean...what do you call it?
