As an Army guy, I am used to good natured ( mostly ) jokes about the Navy.
But the fact of the matter is, when diplomacy goes * up in some foriegn land, the Commander in Chief does not ask ' Where are the tanks? '
He wants the carriers.

My BIL is a Navy guy, on a peacekeeping mission keeping specific waterways safe for international cargo ships.

Indeed, a very happy birthday to our US Navy!! What a thrill it was last month, during my trip to Boston, to step aboard USS Constitution, the only remaining frigate of our first six purpose-built naval frigates. Our nation flirted with establishing a permanent navy for many decades, but with those first 6 frigates and their successful actions against the British, we solidified the reasons to keep a permanent Navy. It was thought impossible for any nation to exceed British naval superiority, but we proved it was possible. Our Navy quickly proved it could stand toe-to-toe with the British and grew into a force that stands today as the finest in the world.

I tried to serve but flunked the physical.... blech.

I do have 2 friends and an ex-boyfriend who all served in the Navy. The ex during Vietnam and the 2 friends during Desert Storm.
