Day 3--Saturday, January 28, 2006
We woke up bright and early on Saturday morning to head over to Disney/MGM Studios for early entry. We had plans to meet some folks over at the Animal Kingdom to ride on Expedition Everest at 10:00, but we wanted to squeeze in a ride on the Rock N Roller Coaster and the Tower of Terror before we headed to the Animal Kingdom.
We grabbed fast passes for Tower of Terror, and headed over to the Rock N Roller Coaster. We only had to wait a few minutes to make it into the preshow, and from the time we stepped in line until the time we got off the ride was only about twenty minutes. We had a bit of time before our fast pass time for the Tower of Terror, so we chatted for a bit, and then went to ride the Tower of Terror. I thought the sequence was rather boring, but I still had fun.
We then headed out to the Animal Kingdom. TravelinTigger had AAA front row parking, and by the time we go there at 10:00, it was already filled, so she invented a spot, and we were on our way. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, I could tell that we werent going to be riding Everest with a short line like yesterday. The lines to get through security and the turnstiles were very long, and it probably took us close to 15 minutes just to get into the park.
We walked over to the Flame Tree Barbecue, where we were meeting a bunch of DISers. Some folks had already stepped away from the group to get in line for the ride, so I dont even think I met everyone there.
But I was more concerned about meeting up with the people I had made plans to meet--DisConvert, and Starrin and his wife and friends. I didnt get to spend that much time with DisConvert, but the time I spent with Starrin, his wife, and friend was one of the highlights of my trip. I really enjoyed chatting with them for the hour and a half while we were waiting to get on Everest. I had felt badly about having to reschedule meeting up with them to ride Expedition Everest due to my migraine, but I was very grateful that they were understanding about it. We probably would have gotten on the ride faster the day before, but we wouldnt have had as much time to chat. I enjoyed meeting them, and chatting with them. They were all great people!
While we waited in line, Momsgonegoofy (I think thats her DIS name), one of my Virtual Magic Kingdom friends, came over to say hello. She gave me a very thoughtful present for my birthday--a Disney keychain with charms representing my life on VMK, including musical notes, green flip flops, and Mickey ears. It was a very thoughtful gift from someone I had only met through VMK, and I cant even begin to express just how much it meant to me.
We finally made it through the Expedition Everest line at about 12:00 noon, and all of us loved the ride! I really look forward to riding this ride every trip! Somehow, we managed to get separated from TravelinTigger and PandyPaws, and they were long gone by the time we got off the ride. We did walk by them as we left the restricted area around Expedition Everest.
After browsing around in the gift shop, we headed out to meet up with Starrins friends wife, who didnt join us for Everest. We got some very nice cast members to take a picture of us, and we chatted with them for a bit about the ride (the woman was cracking me up--she said that she and her husband had been starting to think about having another child, but she told him they had to wait until after she rode Expedition Everest).
I said goodbye to my new friends, and headed out of the park. I took the bus back to the Dolphin, and started to think about finding someplace to have lunch. I wound up heading back into Epcot, and went to Alfredos for lunch, and Im glad I did. It was one of my best meals of my trip. I started my meal off with a ceasar salad, which was excellent, although I missed the cheese wafers they used to put on it. I then had the lasagna which was the best lasagna I have ever had! It was so tender and tasty. The sauce, the cheese, oh my goodness. It took every ounce of constraint I had not to lick my plate. My server had never asked me if I wanted to dessert, and I was so stuffed I didnt think I would be able to eat any anyways, but I know why he didnt ask me. He noticed my birthday button, and he brought me over a cup of chocolate mousse, and he sang Happy Birthday to me in Italian! What a great way to top off a great meal!
After lunch, I slowly made my way around the World Showcase. I went over and took a ride on Soarin, which was as awesome as ever. I then went to have my picture taken at the Disney Visa card room. I had my picture taken with Mickey and Pluto.
I then went to the Epcot Character Experience. I have to say that this is one of the best places to meet characters. This was my second time going through this area, and both times I had to wait just a few minutes to meet the characters. In less than 10 minutes, I had my picture taken with Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Chip & Dale, Donald, Gideon, and King Louie! Its definitely a great place to check out and meet your favorite characters.
I walked around a bit more, and even spent some time sitting on a bench people watching. I really just took a much more relaxed pace this trip. I didnt run from attraction to attraction. I just relaxed, and enjoyed just being in my favorite place.
I left the park to head back to the Dolphin. I was on the phone so much that I had killed my battery again today, so I wanted to put it back on the charger. I packed away the things I wouldnt need the rest of the trip, as I would be going home the next day.
I then walked over to Beaches & Cream for some dinner. Starrin, his wife, and friends were in there when I arrived, so I chatted with them for a bit while I waited for my food, and they finished up their very delicious looking ice creams. I got a ceasar salad with chicken, and a side of fries. I love the ceasar salad at this restaurant, and the fries are always cooked to the perfect crisp, and very tasty. I really enjoyed my meal--its a fun place to go, and a good value.
After dinner, I ran back to the room to get my cell phone, and headed out towards Jellyrolls. It was only about 7:15, so I decided to sit on the Boardwalk to enjoy the view and the beautiful evening.
I went into Jellyrolls shortly before 8:00 and took a table right up front. I was expecting several friends, including some who had never been to Jellyrolls, and wanted to make sure we had a great table. FlyingPegasus and her friend Indian, JonesTavern (Chris), SyracuseWolverine, TravelinTigger, and PandyPaws all joined me to celebrate my birthday. FlyingPegasus put a request up for my birthday, but they never took me up onstage to celebrate it.
I had a lot of fun at Jellyrolls that night, though. The piano players that night were Michael and Chris, and my beloved Scotty and Ray. I was putting up lots of requests, and the guys were being very good about making sure my requests got played right away--I think I only had to wait more than a few songs to hear my requests played.
The highlights of the night include:
Christian singing Love Shack. Christian doesnt particularly care to do that song, but he does such a great job on it that I love to hear him sing it from time to time.
The crazy ladies who were putting requests for Christian on toilet seat covers.
Scotty singing Beyond the Sea, which is one of my favorite songs that he does, and one that I always have to hear him sing.
Watching two guys doing Im A Little Teapot while standing on top of Scotty and Rays piano.
Ray singing 500 Miles because Ive never head him sing it before. Usually Scotty or Christ will do that song.
Scotty ending the evening with When Im 64, a song that we had talked about while we were at the Animal Kingdom. I had told him that it was one of the songs that he does that I had never liked until I heard him sing it. I thought it was very sweet of him to end the evening with that song.
Overall, I had two very fun nights at Jellyrolls. On my past couple of trips, I havent had much luck with seeing Scotty and Ray playing together, so I was thrilled to be able to catch them playing together twice this time around.
I finally made it back to my room shortly after 2:00 a.m., another fun day at the world behind me, and one more day of adventure in my future.
