Hands up on ToT?

Wanted to get the disboard opinion on etiquette as far as hands up on Tower of Terror goes. We LOVE to put our hands up! Sometimes we ask to sit all across the back, so I know it isn't blocking anyone's picture, but I also don't like to always request seats b/c it's extra work for the cm, and someone else we are riding with may have been hoping for back, or it's just really busy. I was just wondering what the general opinion is on riding rides with people who put their hands up in front of you?

My general opinion is that I don't like my view blocked by other guests.

(And, it can ruin an otherwise good "ride photo," for sure.)

That said, my opinion has no bearing on what other guests will do.

If you plan to put your hands up on TOT, ask for the back row - that way, you are sure to not ruin someone else's photo.

You can put your hands up in front of me. Don't like my picture taken. I'll be there in November. Love that ride. My mom will be going on for the first time. Can't wait for her reaction!

Hmmmm....If your photo is ruined by someone can't you request to ride again?

So ruin the photo and somone can get a second ride? :rotfl2:

I'm not a fan of putting the arms up just because it is likely to block someone for the picture or block their view. Of course, if you are sitting in the back, this is not a problem and I say go for it. In my opinion, the back is the best place to sit, anyway. I can't figure out how, but somehow you feel like you are dropping more. In fact, the very best seat is in the very back row on the end. That way, when you start to move forward, you can look down over the side of the ride.

Okay, sorry for the ramble. To sum up, choose to sit in the back and on the end for the best view, ride, and opportunity to put your hands up without hurting anyone else's ride experience.

Why don't you ask the people who are sitting behind you what they would prefer? Or, like others have said, ask to sit in the back. You aren't going to get a good answer here because we won't be riding with you.

OP, I just wanted to thank you for being considerate and asking for the back row. While I haven't been bothered personally by other riders raising their hands, it sure is nice that you're thinking of others. After all the threads on the boards talking about rude behavior, it's refreshing to see.

Personally I am a "grab and hold on for dear life" type, but that's just me!

Another fun way to get a thrill, rather that putting your hands up, hold hands with the people next to you all across the row. I enjoy feeling how hard my friend or family member squeezes because that is harder for them to control. If they squeeze the heck out of your hand and then try to insist that they weren't scared, you can show them the claw marks that they left. ;)

In general since we've gone many times and know where pictures are taken, if we are sitting on any ride in a position where putting our arms up would block a picture, then we don't put our arms up. I realize that first-time riders wouldn't know this, so I try not to get to freaked out when our picture is ruined by the person in front of us putting their arms up.

This applies to many rides, and these are the ones I recall being most noticeable where we've had ruined pics: Splash Mtn, Expedition Everest, TOT, and I'm sure some others!

I usually don't care to have my hands up, but I agree with the sentiment that it's a bit disappointing to get off a ride and see me entire group blocked by the arms of the people in front of us.

Also, have to say, I LOVE seeing another 2 N Jenn :thumbsup2

I usually put my hands up, but not straight up elbows locked, usually just near my shoulders. Then I get my weightlessness, and John Doe behind me still gets his face in the picture :)

If I'm in the back row, it's all up!

I don't ride ToT if I can help it (I'll ride if someone else really wants to and no one else will go with them)...
But it never occurred to me that someone would try to take a photo while the car is dropping...can you get a good pic that way? Wouldn't it all just be blurred?

The "ride photo" is the one taken by Disney and sold to guests.

Ahh...
Thank you for clarifying Robo..
Then I guess, if you know where the photo is taken (which I obviously don't), just make sure your arms are down then...

This is kind of off topic but just had to share that my favorite ride pic is when my (now)DH went with my family to WDW and he rode the ToT for the first time. He thought when you got lifted out of your seat when your dropping that he was going to hit back in the seat HARD and you can see the terrified look on his face. Little did he know you just kind of float back down. :rotfl2: But the look on his face is priceless and we still laugh about it!

Sorry just had to share!

I don't like the hands up thing unless the person is on the back row because you are blocking other people.

My son did that on our ToT ride in Disneyland and blocked half of one of the boys faces. Our group of 8 got to open ToT so we were the only ones on the ride.
I ended up buying that one because another boy refused to ride it again but I was disappointed that we didn't have the good ride shot I was hoping for all because of arms in the air.

Me too! :lmao: I never thought about how holding up your arms might affect the picture. That might be rude -- it might be the one picture of me where I suddenly look thin ... and maybe blonde (from fright?) and there would be someone's stinkin' arm in the photo ...

It does sound like you should request the back even though I have only gotten two pictures in over 30 years of theme park trips (not all to WDW darn). So don't ruin someone's blonde moment ... I mean thin moment and block their picture.

Actually this was a fun topic! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2
