After reading the posts about the handicapped rooms (studios), I have a concern. We have a trip planned in August and have requested a handicapped accessible 2br at OKW. My wifes brother has CP and motor retardation and we will utilize a wheel chair at WDW. However he can walk somewhat and Baths are a must. A shower would be impossible. I never thought about the tub issue until I read the post. I assume the tub is still in the MB? Has anyone ever had a HC 2br. Or should we just amend the res to a ground floor.

We've stayed in a handicap OKW 2-br. with my brother (uses a scooter) and sister-in-law. There is a whirlpool tub in the master bath - in addition to the roll-in shower. They preferred to stay in the 2nd bedroom as it had more maneuvering room for his scooter (and OKW is his home resort, we're BWV).

As you have noticed, people with special needs aren't 'one size fits all' when it comes to handicap rooms. Disney may have different types of handicap rooms at OKW, we happened to require the roll-in shower. My brother has experienced problems at the Beach Club when just requesting a 'handicap' room - it had a tub, no roll-in shower. They had to wait many hours for a suitable room to be prepared for them at the Yacht Club.

Just let MS know what you need, but at least there is the master bath whirlpool. Since the tub is exposed on 2 sides in the bathroom and the 3rd side is the wall with the shuttered opening to the master bedroom, I don't remember there being much in the way of grab bars though.

Hope that this helps

We had a 2 BR handicap with a lock off in March. Villa # 3410 & 3411. Both baths had roll in showers. The only tub was the jacuzzi. Both baths had higher commodes and assist bars. The villas #'s above 29 have slightly different changes in the handicap room. 30 and above have side by side fridges, lower countertops, microwave on the counter, no disposal, higher lavatories and in the lock off unit the small fridge is sitting on the floor next to the bed and outside patio.
For my handicap I prefer the bldg's 29 and under. They too have the roll in showers and assist bars but no changes in the kitchen area. Hope this helps. Ask more questions if needed.

I forgot to mention, the roll-in showers may not be as bad as you fear. They have a fold down seat for those who can't stand. I don't remember if there was back support at OKW, there is at BWV.

We have a 15 yr old with CP who can't walk or stand. We have only rented a wheelchair accessible 2 bedroom once because our DD is too short to take advantage of the raised toilet seat and the rest of us didn't like it either. We just rent a first floor 2 bedroom. If you don't need the grab bars, it might meet your needs. The regular 2 bedroom has a tub in the second bedroom. The jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom has a step that prevents you from being able to get close to the tub for transfers, though, so it would not be accessible at all.?
