Hand/foot/mouth disease has been going around daycare. On Friday when we picked DS up from daycare he had a low grade fever and 3 red dots on his face. The rash increased all over his body but no more fever. We took DS to the Dr. this morning and they said he did indeed have H/f/m. I asked if he could go to daycare tomorrow and the Dr. said if he didnt have a fever he wasnt contagious. That usually by the time the rash appears they are no longer contagious. So she said he was fine to go back. Im a little concerned that daycare will see the rash and kick him out. I am mad at myself that I didnt get a note from the dr. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this? I REALLY cant miss work.

some times the rash or red face look lasts for a week or more......as long as they do not have a fever they are not contagious...alot of the new diseases are not contagious AFTER you find out they have it.....Like chicken pox.....they probably gave it to a few kids before they even broke out where you could see it.....

so you'd feel okay taking DS to daycare?

I think the rule of thumb is 24 hours without a fever & you are ok. Thats what our schools always said. Call the Dr in the morning & ask them to fax the note if you need it.
