Hamilton on PBS

It is worth every drop of acclaim it has gotten. Trust me I don't always agree with the critics. Dear Evan Hansen just opened to critical acclaim by I saw it not to long ago and didn't like it at all. There were a few songs that stood on their own and were good songs but the show as a whole was just bad to me. Of course I also enjoy Natsha Pierre and the Great Comet but others hate that. I think the most important thing to being able to give an opinion on a piece of theater is at least seeing it. At bare minimum listing to the cast album but often times I find the cast album is not enough as many are not from the final version of the production, even Hamilton has things missing and it is one of the best produced cast albums in years.

I had a friend wait on line yesterday to get tickets for the SFO touring, and she was number 46,000 something, and tickets were sold out with 20,000 still "in line" (on line...so a virtual line) ahead of her. Needless to say, she got no tickets. Apparently, it is STILL a major league hot item. I tried for Chicago but it was a no go. Someday I will get to take DD. Thank goodness there are people boycotting it, or tickets would REALLY be hard to get, huh? LOL.

And I think referring to it as a rap musical really isn't accurate...it is more a mix of rap, jazz, and R&B...which basically means it is a lot like West Side Story...which was considered to be ground-breaking in its own right back in the late 1950's.

I am pretty sure it will be...possibly still showing on Broadway. At least it won't be like Starlight Express or CATS! and only remembered as dated and silly.
Not sure how you can put Starlight Express in the same theatrical boat as CATS. CATS is still playing in theaters all around the country, to full houses. Starlight Express? Not so much.
Hamilton certainly isn't going to appeal to everyone. I love the music, but have yet to see it. I will, at some point.
To the naysayers? All those people can't be wrong. Might not be your cup of tea, but many, many love this musical. Yes, it's very different, but that's not a bad thing.
