Hamilton on PBS

I couldn't find it on my TV but just googled it and was able to watch the whole documentary on my iPad. Very informative

That's true but I wonder if people would be as crazy over Hamilton as they are right now if not for the musical.

Of course this doesn't likely get made without the musical. However, a lot of this served as a documentary that could have stood on its own even if not associated with the musical. I'm just saying it was a lot more than just a "making of" documentary.

Now I remember a great "making of" documentary on cast album of the 1992 revival of Guys and Dolls. That cast was amazing. It had Nathan Lane, Peter Gallagher, and J.K. Simmons, as well as others who might not be as well known. Strangely enough, it was aired as an episode of Great Performances.

Even if it isn't remembered in 50 years and I am not saying it will not be, who cares! Not every musical will be a classic but people can enjoy it now and for how ever many years it lasts.

I enjoyed the documentary a lot but thought it would be more the making of the show than history focused. It was extremely interesting though so I am glad I saw it. Hope that when it is touring it comes here so I can see it.

I suppose some people are aghast that rap might be recognized as acceptable as an art form. I do remember being a teen in the 80s when some prominent music critics saying that rap was a fad that would be forgotten in 10 years.

We were looking forward to this peek at Hamilton, with skepticism. Obviously we knew it wouldn't be a presentation of the musical itself, but I think we've become accustomed to a few too many Disney previews and looks behind the scenes to accept that there would be any real substance as far as the show itself went. What a great surprise. Thought it did a fantastic job of representing the performance pieces, and gave a lot of insight into the mindset of the show via the historical background. The creation of the show and the behind the scenes peeks were great too. We all want to see the show in the not too distant future.

Anyone catch Lin-Manuel Miranda narrating a history of Alexander Hamilton on Comedy Central's Drunk History?

I'd include a link to Comedy Central or one of the articles, but they all seem to have embedded video with at least one clip with various words bleeped out.

I love Drunk History. LMM wasn't my favorite narrator ever, but I thought he was among the best. And I really liked Alia Shawkat and Aubrey Plaza as Hamilton and Burr.

It perplexes me that despite this musical winning numerous Tony awards, a Pulitzer Prize, a Grammy and countless other accolades someone could still shrug it off as an overrated show that will be forgotten.
For me it is wishful thinking because I honestly do not think it is any good. I just don't. I get the hype, but I am not impressed.

Overrated...will it be remembered in 50 years? I think not.

I am pretty sure it will be...possibly still showing on Broadway. At least it won't be like Starlight Express or CATS! and only remembered as dated and silly.

Yes. I didn't know he was doing an episode. What a nice surprise when I turned it on. Great episode.

Why would you wish it not to have long success because you dislike it. That makes no sense. It's not bothering you in any way.

I think a lot of people just don't care what the so called experts and critics think when it comes to deciding if we like something or not. To me "Critically Acclaimed" means boring.
I haven't seen it and I never will.
