Hamburger meat ?

I've read that they (many supermarket butchers) add something to "enhance" the red coloring. I don't usually go by color either but rather by date and purveyor.
 
I think it would depend on how it was packed. If its in the meat tray with shrink wrap around it, I would toss it, but now my stores are selling ground beef in chubs ( like sausage is packed in) and it would have a date and if its not passed it would still be good.
