Halloweentime is over, hope you all had fun! Until next year....TTFN!

Hello, this is my first time on a Disney board and I think you guys can help me out.
I'm attending the ToT thing on Wednesday the 22nd with my boyfriend.
He is going as Aquaman, but I don't know want to go as.
I have a costume that I want to wear but I just want to make sure it's appropriate.
I realize most people there are parents and children and I don't want to offend anyone by wearing something too...'adult'(?)
The costume is not that bad really, just a tad on the short side.
It's an Alice (in Wonderland) costume, I'd wear it with stockings and long socks.
I think it's cute, but I've never been to the ToT thing at DCA before and I don't want to stand out in a bad way.
Here is a stock photo of the costume:

Alice

I do have other costumes but most are too nice to be wearing on rides and the others are not good to wear at night (too cold)
My awesome Ariel costume I made (too cold for nighttime though!)
Other costumes I've made.

If you guys would help me out that'd be great! Thanks in advance!

First of all, welcome to the DIS! :welcome:

As far as the Alice costume, I'll share my opinion, which is of course just one of many. LOL In other words, you will find some who think it's ok and some who don't.

I personally think it's fine. I'd wear full length stockings or tights, rather then thigh highs. And flats as opposed to those high heels. Those two things right there will tone down the costume a lot if that's what you're worried about.

A costume just being short isn't in and of itself a bad thing, but how you accessorize it can make a huge difference.

Also since it's short sleeved and it will be chilly, perhaps adding a shirt underneath or a matching capelet over top, will serve to also tone it down while keeping you warm at the same time.

I like it. I happen think those costumes are very cute. Those are just some tips in case you are concerned and want to feel more comfortable. Have a fun time!!!

Welcome! Always good to meet someone new to Disboards!

I happen to agree with momma4u if you take her suggestions regarding the accessories. At first glance, I was a bit put off. I'm glad momma4u was first to respond. Got me to think in another way. (Thanks momma4u I like being pulled in another way. That's the way to learn!) So I think the costume would be fine.

By the way you have a great talent with sewing! Keep it up.

Such a nice welcome :D
Thanks for the advice, I was worried I'd get some 'angry' responses.
If I can't come up with anything better costume-wise by the day I'll do that, tone it down.
No huge heels for sure! I was going do do some interesting makeup with it but I'll focus on being artistic and not overly glam.
I will of course let you all know the outcome.

Thanks for the complement funatdisney, I do love making costumes. This particular one was given to me by a friend and I've just never gotten the chance to wear it.

Send us a picture! You seem like an artistic kind of gal. I would love to see what you have done. By the way we are going on the 23rd. We will miss each other by one day!

Could you please add me to the list. We will be there on the 23rd. I'm hoping that it's not too crowded.

Not sure if us adults are doing costumes. Since we are traveling almost 1,700 miles and flying there's not much room in the suitcases.

How common are non-Disney costumes?? My mom bought DS his costume which will be very easy to pack and he wants to wear it.

Something else you might think of, is wearing some bloomer or spandex shorts underneath. Getting in rides might be a bit hard:rotfl: ? I don't know.

I'm making my DD a Bratz clown costume. What is that you ask? Well it is kind along the same lines as your Alice's, only that it is very colorful with lots of pokadots, stripes, stars, rick rack, you name it. She is going to wear a tutu underneath it to make the skirt really stand out. So I'm also making little bloomers for her to wear underneath.

By the way your costumes are beautiful!!! :cloud9:

Oh and welcome to the DIS!!!:flower3:

Is there an easy way to post pictures? I have a ton of them from our trip this last Friday. It was a blast. Anyone who has not been, "GO!" anyone waiting to go, "You will not be disappointed!" If someone gets me going in the right direction with posting pictures I will put as many up as possible. For now I am stumbling through the Community Photo Gallery but it is very slow. See if this link works:

As far as costumes, from what I've seen and heard I'd say it's a pretty nice mix of Disney and non-Disney costumes. I'd go with whatever you have or feel comfortable in, whether it's Disney or not.

Are the in a photobucket account? That's where I put all mine. It's free and you can resize them or whatever, and then it's super easy to post them from there using the IMG Code.

What rides are running during the party? Anything major closed? Trying to make a plan for the evening! :goodvibes

Does anyone know if the gates to the GCH are open at the end of the party? I know they're not open to enter, but maybe to exit????? Hopefully......

I seem to remember that they were not open.In the past, I remember having to walk around toward Downtown Disney to get back to our room.

I believe all the rides were up and running except for Grizzly Rapids and the rides in a bug's land.

DS has already made it clear that he would not be riding GRR or Screamin' as it would mess up his costume... :rotfl:

I don't know who is more antsy for Friday, me or my kids! Today my brother decided he wanted to go too- but all sold out!!!!! WAAHHHHHH!!!

My DH, myself, two small kids and MIL are attending the Oct 22nd party! Do you know if we are able to leave the party and then return later? I was hoping to return to the party for a date night with my husband after we put the kids to bed. Unfortunately, sending the kids back with the MIL is not in the cards.

TIA!

:rotfl: That's too funny! :cutie:

Sorry to hear that your brother wasn't able to get a ticket too. :(

More pics and updates!!! Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!! I added your pics to the links on the front page. They are great!!

I simply must get one of those pumpkin breads!!! Too cute.

Thanks Beth! You're awesome!! :cool1: :goodvibes

I have another question about the candy. Do they give you a handful at each stop, just one piece and you can go thru as many tmes as you want or how does this work? Everyone talks about how much candy you get. It doesnt matter so much to me, yeah candy is great, but just the differentness of it all and getting to hang in a party atmosphere at one of my fave places is what Im most looking forward to!
But, candy is good too! Just give me some M&Ms!:cool1:
We will be well into our party in less than 48 hours!:hmghost: :hmghost:

They give you a handful of candy at each 'treat station'. You'll get lots of candy without having to work hard at all. It gives you lots of time to enjoy the attractions and the dance parties. I especially enjoyed 'pirates warf' and the Hollywood studios back lot.

Have a great time!

How were the lines for the rides ? Were they long wait during MTOTP?
