We are DW annual pass holders and DVC members. We have been going to DW for 20 years, first time was in 1998 one week after Animal Kingdom opened (by chance, not design). The first time at DW we brought my then 5 year old child -- my entire Disney experience has been as an adult. I was a member of the Mickey Mouse Club . . . ahem . . . in the early 1960s. So I'm not a spring chicken.
We went to the DW Halloween party last week and we also bought the dessert party ticket. No problem with the dessert, we had excellent seats to view the fireworks and castle projection show, but be advised you can't see the parade from the dessert area. But I imagine you could go out to watch and reenter since you have an admission band, but parades aren't a big deal for us. We had some wine, sat for a while, and nibbled some sweets. Pretty good experience overall.
I do have a criticism of the Halloween party generally. Too many people. I don't mind buying another ticket for "extra hours," but I thought the idea was that I would get relatively quick access to most rides. Turns out, the crowd was as large as a daytime crowd and there were fewer things to do. So maybe there were fewer people there than a daytime crowd, but it seemed more crowded. I'm left wondering: what's the point of paying extra for limited access from the park goers point of view? Not worth it IMO. Probably won't go again.
