Halloween Costumes in Carry-on?

We are flying on Halloween and will attend the Halloween Party. To be sure we have our costumes when we need them, I was going to put them in our carry-on. Is this a problem? (Just kids costumes-nothing for the adults)

Only if they are liquid over 3 ounces, have explosives or guns or knives, or box cutters!

Why would it be a problem? It is just clothing.

As long as the costumes do not have anything that is prohibited by the TSA, there should be no problem.

At first I thought "Why would they be a problem?" but upon further thought, I realized depending on what they are it could be. If you are talking kids costumes with no masks or weapons (at least fake ones) then I would think no. Now something for an adult that could hide your identity, maybe. You might want to check the airline security regs at the airports (sorry, late and their letters are escaping me right now. Something like FSA?) They have become very strict about things that could be a security risk.

I was wondering about this as well. DH and I are going as Avengers and our costumes will have some gunbelts, but no actual weapons. Do you think that will be a problem?? If so maybe we will mail them ahead of us...that will probably be cheaper than 25 bucks anyway!

The TSA prohibited items list says nothing about costumes or masks. Just the usual "no weapons" or looks like a weapon or a sharp object or explosives.

No. The TSA has no restrictions on clothing packed in a carry-on.

Thank you! I thought we were good but then you start wondering with all the stories you hear. I would hate to get the airport with our kids then have to dump their Halloween costumes & land then try to find new costumes in time for the party.

Back in 2008, my son, who was 6 at the time, bought a plastic Buzz Lightyear light up gun at the resort after we already checked our bags with ME. I was told by a CM that I should let security know about it and and maybe they would then allow it. I was told that my only options were to have them confiscate it or I could mail it. I felt bad for my DS since he used his own money and really loved the gun. I ended up leaving security and going across the airport to a self-serve postal area and was able to send it home in a fixed price priority envelope. It was clearly a toy but it didn't matter. My MiL also bought the same toy gun for my nephew but she didn't say anything to security and went in a different line and didn't have a problem.

My point is that if there is any kind of weapon, even it's plastic, I would put it in my checked luggage, unless things have changed over the years. If you don't put the ME luggage tag on your suitcase, you could pick it up yourself at the baggage claim and then take it on the bus yourself.
