Hallmark Movies ❤️ comfort & joy

Thank you, Imzadi for starting this thread and each of you for contributing to it! I will miss Christmas movies but will keep an eye out for any I missed that look interesting on Thursday nights on (HM&M) and Fridays (not sure all day or part day) on Hallmark. Meanwhile I do have 3 winter movies set to record tonight. Anyone want to start a Winter movie thread?

We're continuing with the winter and year-round Hallmark movies on this thread. :grouphug: (I took off "Christmas" in the thread title. :teeth: ) Scroll back a page, I listed some of my winter favorites re-airing this week. :) I wonder if the ones you are recording are some of the same?

Good reminder, the Christmas movies will continue to air Thursday nights on HM&M, and on Friday night on Hallmark. :thumbsup2 (Days edited.)

I think the aurora teagarden ones are my least favorite of the mystery series i've watched

I actually like those. I'm a sucker for the library setting!

I've also watched some of the bakery ones (Hannah Swenson is the heroine's name.) - But I found the books first on that series, so the casting is a little off from what I pictured, and sometimes throws me.

My favorite ones have been the mystery 101, crossword mysteries, hailey dean

I think I caught one of the crossword ones before the Christmas movies moved in, and a couple of Kellie Martin ones too, but I don't think they were Hailey Dean. Does she have another mystery series?

Yes, Kellie also made a series called Mystery Woman. I think it was the first mystery series for Hallmark and with a known actress, at a time when known actors were staying away from Hallmark.

It's a good series. It's about a woman who inherits a bookstore specializing in mystery books. It comes with the assistant manager, Philby, who is rumored to be a retired spy. :ssst: Philby is played by Clarence Williams III, from the the old, 60s TV series, Mod Squad! Usually HM&M re-airs Mystery Woman on some weekends as a marathon.

Yes, that's the one! I liked them so far, and will keep my eye out for the marathons.

Mystery 101 is probably my favorite, too — but I enjoy them all. I wish they would have recast the lead actress for the Garage Sale mysteries, I thought those were really fun.

I just posted this in the kindness thread and here's my take for this thread. The first Winter movie I tried watching on Hallmark was Taking A Shot at Love. I gave it half an hour and it was not engaging me. I'm not a ballet person so maybe that was why? I just didn't feel caught up in either the characters or the story. I do hope any of you who watched this did enjoy. I have two others from last night ready to watch later. I did notice tomorrow seems to be the start of some Valentine themed movies.

Did I mix it up, btw? Are Christmas movies on Hallmark Channel on Thursday night and on HM&M on Friday or is it the other way around? Thank you :)

Whoops! No, you were right. I mixed up the days. :teleport: Good catch. :thumbsup2

I personally not a fan of Alexa PenaVega. Maybe it has to do with something I saw about her when she was a contestant on Dancing With The Stars, but I find her prissy, uppity and she seems high-maintenance to me. :snooty: It doesn't help me change my opinion of her that she often plays characters on Hallmark that are uppity. :headache: I was actually surprised that Hallmark started their winter season with Alexa and Luke Macfarlane, also not one of my favorite Hallmark actors. I had hoped it would be better.

But, as I said in an earlier post, the non-Christmas movies tend to be more varied in quality. Hang in there, there are some gems here and there. I just wish they had started the winter season with something stronger.

I tried watching One Winter Proposal and admittedly was put off from the get go when the actor came up behind the actress with a party blower near her neck. It just gave me a bad feeling. I did start watching some of Amazing Winter Romance and that (I hope) has more potential! Glad you are enjoying A Winter Love Story, Ranger Pooh.

Watching ‘Taking A Shot At Love’, love it! I really like the male lead in this one. Maybe it’s because I miss hockey 🤷🏼‍♀️. Predictable story, but still felt different from others. Kind of ‘The Cutting Edge’ meets ballet. Now to wait for the skiing one next week. Lol

I really liked Taking a Shot at Love too. I live in New England, love hockey and have seen the Hartford Wolf Pack play. The Cutting Edge is one of my all time favorite movies. :goodvibes "Toe pick" :rotfl2:

I like Alexa PenaVega because she actually is the right age for some of these roles, so I'm always glad when they don't cast Candace Cameron Bure in something that is clearly more appropriate for someone who is in their 20s. I did read she is pregnant now, so maybe we won't have so much of her this coming year...in actuality, her husband annoys me more than she does with the "too perky."

Well she’s actually 32 and this is her 3rd child, so she’s not exactly in her twenties. But I agree, hallmark needs to start finding some younger stars.

I was just shocked with this movie that they used a real NHL team. All of the past sports movies have involved fake teams. And even though I hate the Rangers, it was nice to see a real team represented.

Those are fighting words! :lmao:;)

I was shocked too. Maybe Hallmark got the NHL/Rangers permission to use their logo as showing an advertized product? Like when we see the Folgers coffee canister sitting way too obviously on the counter in the movie. I noticed in Christmas With the Darlings that the 2 leads ate Campbell's tomato soup by dipping in grilled cheese sandwiches, just like one of the Campbell's Soup commercials. Then the commercial break showed a different Campbell's Soup commercial.

I said up-thread that Disney should think about doing that on Freeform as a way to make their own Christmas movies. People naturally wear Disney/Star Wars/Marvel stuff all the time in real life and have memorabilia prominently all over the place.
