Halle Berry

She clearly is not a fun person to be with after a while.

Agreed. Ever since I first became aware of her after Boomerang, I've felt she was living on the brink. The other things aside, at the VERY minimum she makes HORRID choices when it comes to men. She needs to take some serious time to really look at that.

His ex is now coming out saying that she tried to warn HB that he was racist, but HB didn't want to hear it. What kind of person dates a person that is racist against part of their heritage??? Not a totally sane one, that's for sure.

I've never liked her...too close to the brink, for me...

Trying to figure out who marks these boxes for race when a baby is born? WE chose what to check off on DS's...and I believe we chose mixed. DS is as much Korean as Nahla is Black, but no one was making us check Asian...

And the one-drop thing is moot IMO, for what everyone is talking about here, because the ONLY reason people want to say that "people" (what people?) will see Nahla as Black is because of her appearance. It's not *blood* here, otherwise, my son would be considered 100% Asian, even though he doesn't really look it to the casual observer. It's appearance *combined* with knowledge of her background.

Checkmarks...even in '72, DH is listed on his bc as White, because that's what his father told them to write, even though DH is half Asian...

EXACTLY! and if someone makes that assumption and is then corrected they need to respect that.

Society will see her as black, look at Obama- our first "black" president, even though he is biracial. I don't disagree with Hallie's view but I think its sad that she doesn't acknowledge her dd's fathers part in making her.

WTH are you talking about? I pointed out that President Obama is seen as black (to everyone because his skin color is black) even though he is biracial just as Halle's dd will be seen as black even though she is bi-racial. Where did I imply there was anything wrong with that? Its just the way it is.

FTR, a child is part of their mother and part of their father, so technically while Halle's dd and Obama himself appear to be black, they are still part of a white parent. So I think when Halle says her dd is not white, she is right as far as appearances go, but she is wrong because of the fact that one of her parents is in fact white. I think its sad that she couldn't just say "I don't see her as black or white, she's an equal part of us", but I assume thats because there are things going on between her and her EX that I don't know about, or care about really. I'm not sure what you read into my statement :confused3

You said and I quote... " I think it's sad that Halle doesn't acknowledge her baby's daddy's part in making her"... I pointed out that maybe the reason she doesn't is that as a society in this country any kid with an ounce of black blood is considered black.

I didn't read a thing into your statement. i was simply giving you a probably cause as to why Halle may act as she does. PERIOD. take it any way you would like.

AS a general rule people don't go around saying they are biracial. that is a fairly new terminology. People will say they are for the most part whatever color or ethnicity they look like or identify with.

Halle may feel her child looks black and plans to raise her in the culture she identifies with. So she is perfectly correct in saying her child is black.

Tiger Woods tried to identify himself as "Cabeleense" or whatever that nonsense was and it lasted for a hot second. So when he first came on the scene he was pretty much a "black" golfer.

I think Berry saw GA as a sperm donor (since she's said for a long time she wanted kids), but she got quite a surprise when he actually wanted to be involved and be a father to the child. My impression of him is he's a great dad and only wants what's best for Nahla.

My impression of Berry is she's a toxic, poisonous woman that expects everyone to do her bidding. She's the perfect example of beautiful on the outside and completely screwed up on the inside.

When they don't (ala babydaddy) she gets nasty and fights dirty. She loves playing the victim.

GA has said he had recordings/voicemails/emails of her poisonous tirades, but he won't release them, because he doesn't want to go there.

I said that because of her quote in the TMZ report:
"I feel she's Black. I'm Black and I'm her mother, and I believe in the one-drop theory." She doesn't say she "sees" her as black, she says she "feels" she is black, to me that means she doesn't feel she has any white in her. There was no mention of the father there at all, and yes thats sad to me, not because I think the girl needs to be labled as bi-racial, but because the child should know exactly who she is. So I definitely think you read something in my post that wasn't there, I never said she was wrong in saying her child is black, she is black, in appearance.

I agree with this. I "heard" this came about after GA had a few dates with Kim Kardashian. I guess it's ok for her to jump head-first into a new high-profile relationship but she balked when he started moving on with his life.

Thats cool but most black people don't really go around saying they are "biracial' (of course it goes without saying that I am not speaking for all of my race, just my experience). If some one ask, they may say my x or y is white but especially over a certain age if you ask what race they are, they will say black. Halle has always said she was African American, she clearly knows "who she is" and I'm sure her daughter will too but if her mom describes her as black it's pretty much a good bet that is how she will identify herself. I don't think it has any thing to do with "denying" a part of oneself. she said she believes in the one drop theory, no surprise, that's what I was taught, thats what an entire generation of us were taught. No reason we shouldn't believe in it, why should we now run around saying we're "biracial"? As I said "Biracial, multiracial" are all pretty new "terms".
Sorry you find it sad...:confused3

That's nuts! :headache:

No mention of the fact that this man is a known racist? Why attack the abused? Even his ex white girlfriend said this, yet y'all are attacking Halle? This is why black people believe there is still racism. Read this thread! No overt racism, but when you side with the white person who is probably wrong, that says a lot. Halle IS a troubled woman. She chooses the wrong men, but so do many of you in this thread. I refuse to believe that all of y'all husbands are great! I don't care if I get flamed for this post, I won't be silent. Have at it! And just in case you didn't guess by now, yes, I Am BLACK!

I wasn't aware that he is a racist. I am not attacking Halle Berry- on the contrary. I still just can't believe she would say "I believe in the one drop theory" which was held by those who wanted to keep blacks "in their place".

And I will stand up and say that my husband isn't always "great" as I am not always "great" but we don't physically or emotionally abuse each other.

I'm sorry you see this thread as racist- just because someone disagrees with the viewpoint of a black person, doesn't make them a racist.

I DON'T think this thread is racist. I do however, believe that people's decisions are often based racially. Siding with a person of the same race doesn't make you racist, but it can be perceived that way. I, too, am guilty of this. It just bothers me that his racist tendencies are being ignored! I don't want to call anyone racist, because I don't believe that, but I do find it odd that most of the posters are white (assumption) and they sided with the white person, that by all accounts is probably the worst of the 2 parents.

Quote from an article.
Model Gabriel Aubry was verbally abusive to his ex-girlfriend Halle Berry even going so far as calling her the 'N' word, now he ex-girlfriend says she's shocked he ever dated the beautiful star because he's racist.

Aubry's ex, who dated him from 2003 to 2005, says he often spewed racial slurs during their two-year relationship and was "very disrespectful to women."* Despite the fact she admits he often used racial slurs, she considers him "a borderline racist."

I don't pay much attention to celebrity news- don't read People or anyting like that. If those things are true, he's not going to be a very good father to that little girl. Keep in mind that the ex may have an ax to grind though. I'm confused why the ex would consider him a "borderline" racist if what she said about him is true.:confused3

I think Halle Berry is probably the MOST beautiful woman on the planet and I wish her well.

You know ... I take what Halle says and what the ex-GF says with a grain of salt. It seems that Halle wants Aubry out of her and her DD's life. People will often lie or stretch the truth to get what they want. Also ex-GFs often have axes to grind with their ex-BF's. I'm not saying that either one is lying, but I am saying that it's not clear to me that either one of those women are being 100% truthful.

Honestly, I find the "one-drop rule" that Halle references to be repulsive. It was designed to segregate people and deny them of the basic human rights only afforded to "white" people. By embracing the "rule", it seems that she also embraces that terrible time in US history and the racists who put that rule in place.

Reminds me of The Princess Bride, "I do not think that word means what you think it means"

I disagree with the one drop rule also.

I did not side with the white person, and there are others on this thread who did not side with him either. If he was verbally abusive to Halle and calling her the N-word and other vulgar things, then I think he is wrong.

We really don't know if it's true that he did this or not...maybe he did, maybe he didn't. Even if Halle and the ex g/f are saying that he did, we still don't know if it's true. They may both have an ax to grind with him since they are both ex's.

If the court finds that he was indeed verbally abusive to Halle, then do you think he should not have access to his daughter?
