Halle Berry

Yes he is. I think I read that he actually formally filed proof of paternity with the courts.

Any of the stuff swirling around celebrities is suspect in my book. It is almost impossible to know who is saying what and what the truth actually is. I just hope the best outcome happens for the kid, period. Adults will have to suck it up for the situation they created.

Society will see her as black, look at Obama- our first "black" president, even though he is biracial. I don't disagree with Hallie's view but I think its sad that she doesn't acknowledge her dd's fathers part in making her.

I wouldn't use TMZ as any sort of indicator of anything significant. At best, they take things out of context and blow things out of proportion. There may or may not be anything to say here, about Berry, but as long as the only reference to it is in TMZ, then it is simply not important enough to even bother considering.

Some questions to consider: What prompted the comments each person made. In other words, were they asked a question? or did they go to the media and made an announcement unprompted?

Is Nahla not the biological child of both of them?

yes she is. she's such a little cutie too.

but what really gets me, and not just with Halle Barry and her situation is that she too is the child of an interacial couple. her mother, who I have read she is very close too, is white. so WHY deny one side of your heritage? can't you embrace both? must we DEFINE our children that way. IMO, this is exactly how hate and lack of tolerance develop.

What difference does it make? Not this thread but the issue? I don't get it and would put it in the hookairs category.

She says the baby is black, he (the father) says the baby is white (caucasean). I looked at a picture of the little girl, who is absolutely adorable, and her skin looks a bit dark. I'd have to say she could pass for being 'black'.

Halle Berry is BLACK?

In the U.S. she is.

In other parts of the world she'd definitely be considered white. Race is such an arbitrary way to try and classify people.

It seems like Halle is pushing the issue into the press in order to make her ex look bad. I put in hookairs too. :confused3

Actually TMZ is usually pretty accurate with info., but there is info about the situation all over.

That's nothing to get up in arms about. Halle is black! She didn't create the rule she just chose to abide by the rule. If she weren't a celebrity and we didn't know that she has a black father and white mother, we would see a black woman. So, what's wrong with her acknowledging this fact and moving on with her life. You know...being black isn't so bad :rotfl:. The same with her daughter Nahla...times are a bit more progressive and bi-racial children have more options; however, for the pockets a racism that still exists, some may be a bit more comfortable around Nahla, but when the rubber meets the road she will still be black even if she chooses to identify otherwise.

What rules?

Seems a tad bit racist to not acknowledge her white genes and I'd say the same if the reverse was true.

One of the articles in the link said that Halle is taking the father to court because she feels that her daughter is not safe when she is in his care. It sounds like a custody battle.

One of the other articles is about him being racist and calling Halle the N-word and other vulgar things.

Entirely true. The interview cited may well have been done prior to any split in the relationship and the questions regarding the racial make-up of her daughter may have been in the context of a much larger racial identity discussion instead of purely, how do you identify your or your daughter's race? Isn't February black history month? The magazine may have arranged an interview months ago, looking to discuss the biracial issue from the angle of a celebrity, biracial mother with a child born from a biracial relationship of her own.

I'm glad this little girl is too small to have any idea what the news is reporting about her or her parents, no matter what the reality of the situation is.

Halle has a white mother and a black father.
Nahla has a white/black mother and a white father.
Halle has been recognizing Gabriel as the father all along and actually until recently has been praising him as an excellent father and how lucky she is to coparent with him which is why I believe she is now dogging him in the press.

I think she has had total control over everything including how much time he spends with the child--- everything seemed to be on her terms. I think now that the child is older he wants more time and freedom to do things on his terms and Halle doesn't like it so she's fighting and fighting dirty.

I don't think the intent is to deny her white genes. In fact, Halle has never been bashful about her lineage. The rule i'm referring to is the 1 drop rule which was created during slavery in an effort to not taint the white race. Basically, if a person had as little as 1 drop of black blood that person was considered black...sad, but true and it is still applied and practiced today.

ETA: when a biracial child is born, the race is checked as black. The race of the parents are listed, black and white, but the childs race is listed as black. True.
