Halle Berry

I agree. She could have used it as an opportunity to learn something new. The fact that her daughter will speak two languages is to her (the daughter's) advantage.

and it makes me think she doesnt' put what's best for her child ahead of what SHE wants.

I believe that he said on Oprah that said that he refers to himself as black because that's how people see/acknowledged him. Funny though he grew up with a white mother.

The entire Hallie situation is ridiculous she is a poisonous woman and you can now see that she must be miserable to be with. Dave Justice left her. Al B Sure left her. Eric Bennett left her. Two of them were driven to physical violence with her. She is losing credibility in my eyes. She didn't deserve that Oscar...yes I don't like her.

Are you serious?! Adults should have control of their own members.

On Ellen a few weeks back Halle commented that she doesn't like that her daughter speaks french with her father. Rather than try to learn some french, she said she puts a stop to it because she felt left out. She came across as being childish and resentful of Nahla's relationship with her father.

That's awful.

You hit the nail on the head "American sees her as black" as it does most biracial and multi racial children who have a darker skintone. It doesn't make it right, but it is what it is.

I'm shocked that Barack choosing to identify as black pisses you off as you're not now nor will you ever have to walk a mile in Barack's or another bi-racial/multi-racial persons shoes. Seriously? What are you assuming?

As far as you being able to identify that Barack and Halle or bi-racial, really? You do know that black people who have 2 black parents can look like Halle and Barack, right? and bigger than what? A black man...seriously?! Bigger than choosing one! Embrace both. He could have changed the rules right then and there

Understandably, this is an issue that is close to your heart, but saying your daughter saying one has the right to choose to be acknowledged as bi-racial, but the other doesn't have the right to choose either or as a bit contradictory.
Really confused by this? what are you saying?
The bottom line is that until laws are changed, the old laws still apply and many choose to identify under the current current law.

This ^^ is very true.

Did he leave her or did she leave him? I can't recall. Honestly, she needs to find herself and figure out why she chooses the men that she does, her track record isnt very good.

Whoa.

I'm not a huge fan of Halle's but there aren't many scenarios where people are "driven to physical violence". In domestic violence situations the perpetrators often say "she (or he) drove me to it" or " she (or he) just made me so mad", and frankly there's no excuse good enough. People are in control of themselves and if their partner is driving them nuts it's up to them to walk away. No one deserves to be abused, no matter how much of a jerk they are. Just walk away.

That's my point. People seem to assume that SHE picks bad men. Maybe SHE drives good men crazy. She was very open about the fact that her and david Justice would come to blows. Al B sure caused her to to lose hearing in one ear.

You are blaming HER for THEIR behavior?

That's nuts! :headache:

OMG I'm not saying anyone deserves to be hit or abused. What I am saying is that people naturally defend the "victim" not wanting to acknowledged that people can be driven to some inappropriate actions. Doesn't make it right or wrong. She clearly is not a fun person to be with after a while.

Lets stay with the topic now please.

That's not what she said. She said, not verbatim, that her daughter speaks french and she is not very fluent so she has a hard time understanding her. She did say she felt left out, but she never said she discouraged her speaking french. She was proud that her daughter is learning french from her french speaking father.

ETA: this is what she said regarding he multi-lingual daugher

Halle said “the time has flown. I mean, it’s flown by so fast.” When asked Halle said her daughter is doing good and is multi-lingual speaking English, Spanish and French Canadian. Halle said that her father is French Canadian so he speaks to Nahla in his native language. The nanny speaks to her in Spanish and Halle is teaching her English.

The actress doesn’t speak French of Spanish but she’s “learning with her” and she’s having other conversations with other people in other languages and Halle said “mama’s not having that for long.”

whooo, wait a minute guys. Halle nor the President make up these rules. for the most part this is pretty much how White america has made the rules for the last say 200 years. Last time I checked a history book, President Obama pretty much is the first and only black president we've had. what's the issue with that?

This hate and lack of tolerance did not just suddenly developed. heck there was a big uproar when the census was changed to say biracial.

Now you get all shocked and shaken that it's like that? the president is a little younger than me and as far as I know if either one of your parents is black the child is black.

Believe me, we did not come up with these rules.

WTH are you talking about? I pointed out that President Obama is seen as black (to everyone because his skin color is black) even though he is biracial just as Halle's dd will be seen as black even though she is bi-racial. Where did I imply there was anything wrong with that? Its just the way it is.

FTR, a child is part of their mother and part of their father, so technically while Halle's dd and Obama himself appear to be black, they are still part of a white parent. So I think when Halle says her dd is not white, she is right as far as appearances go, but she is wrong because of the fact that one of her parents is in fact white. I think its sad that she couldn't just say "I don't see her as black or white, she's an equal part of us", but I assume thats because there are things going on between her and her EX that I don't know about, or care about really. I'm not sure what you read into my statement :confused3

I don't think Halle should be using race in her custody fight. If she does, then she should remember that her daughter is mostly white (3/4). Otherwise, keep race out of it.

Actually, yup it is WRONG. No matter what Halle did (or did not) do*, it was WRONG for any of the men in her life to resort to violence. If she is not a fun person to be with than don't be with her. Simple. Had they left her, I'd agree that she might share responsibility, but she shares NONE for being abused. Anyone being abused does not deserve to be a "victim", they are a victim (no quotes).

*with the sole exception of her being the instigator of violence.

In some ways, being "mostly white" leads you to a life where you're treated, overall, as more of a minority, than if you're 100% one way or the other. There may be other reasons to ignore race, but the fact that the daughter is 75% white isn't one of them.
