LOL I need to get through 2010! LOL

I would love to do a 1/2 marathon. I'm still trying to run over 2 miles. I think I'm kinda stuck at 2. I'm not sure if is a physical thing or a mental thing. :confused3

I've been running 2 miles, walking 1 mile in about 30-32 minutes. Then I hit some weights. Maybe I should do the bike or something else for 15-20 minutes to try to get my stamina up.

Sandy I'm waiting for a full TR from you!!!! popcorn:::rolleyes1popcorn::

Maroo You are on track!! :cool1:

Leisa :rotfl2: DH got a special Mickey Medal for the 15th Mickey - so he really wanted the special Goofy Bling - but my Donald Medals? EXACTLY the same!! :rotfl2: I need to engrave the backs of them! (I dont think dh is going to do another goofy - :confused3)

Its all about the "bling" diamonds, gold, pearls... medals!!

Tim doing 2 miles on a treadmill is very hard... boring too!

A real trip report comes when I can upload pix, snag some from a WISHer ( I took no pictures during race day - so I would finish!! I really wish I had taken a picture... :rolleyes1 while running maybe!) and then I have to have time on the computer...

dh and dd get most of the computer time! Hopefully this weekend!

Hi Sandy! I just registered to do the half marathon in January and have just started the Couch to 5K program. I'm a decent walker, but overweight and no where near ready for a half marathon! I'm looking forward to reading back through your PTR for lots of good info. :thumbsup2

Carissa -

On behalf of Sandy and the crew over here... :welcome: :)

We will love you joining us on the journey!

You can do it!

If you get frustrated with the running portion of the C25K - don't give up...you can walk a lot more than you may think to do the half marathon - so you don't have to run as much as they get you to in that program, if you can't at first. :thumbsup2

Thanks so much! :goodvibes I know from the TRs/PTRs, but I also read some of your journey with C25K on the thread for that last year. I'm good friends with liznboys and she was posting the same time as you. :thumbsup2

Carissa glad you are stopping by and sharing your journey here as well!! :goodvibes

dont forget to drop by the WISH event/comp board too!!

oh man!

That reminds me of the treadmill in front of the castle!!

:lmao:

oh, i just have to find that picture!

Too bad they're wearing it in their coffins!!

No way, no way, no way, Jose!!! Goofy is definitely NOT what I'd call them!! Crazy, maybe. Insane, yeah.

No, no, no. Doing the 5k, 1/2 and Full in the same week-end is crazy ... err.. Dopey. Just doing the 1/2 and Full in the same week-end is a challenge and maybe a little bit Goofy. ;)

Download the c25k podcasts here: http://www.ullreys.com/robert/Podcasts/page4/files/category-7.html and, obviously, start with week 2 at least. I know you're already up to 3 miles and this program will back you up a bit as it has you doing a combo running/walking and you'll be running less than 2 miles for the first several weeks. The guy in the podcast will tell you when to walk and when to run.

This program really helped me learn to run. One I completed the program, I had a solid base that I was able to build on. And I second Sandy, it's sooo much nicer to be running outdoors. It really is. However, the first time I did the c25k program, I did do 1/2 of it on the treadmill. But I won't run on the treadmill for anything right now. I simply enjoy running when I'm outdoors. The treadmill feels like exercise.

Me too! popcorn::
(uh, minus any blackmail photos that you have of me. :teeth: Don't forget to include how Tower of Terror messed-up and we almost became squished sardines. :teeth: That was fun!)

Another one who's part of Sandy's gang saying hi! Sandy has great info in this TR and click on the link in my sig. I threw out some more info (running and in regards to the full marathon) for anyone interested.

I've decided that KT tape is a miracle sent from above! I tried the sample we got at Disney on my achilles tendon and it really helped. I ordered some online because it isn't available in my area and got my shipment yesterday. This morning I taped my ankle, achilles, and peroneal tendon and ran completely without pain for the first time in over two years. I was literally crying with relief at the end of my 6 mile run. I don't care if it is just the placebo effect, this stuff is awesome. I ran outside today, but I can't even imagine how much this will change my life if it also helps on the treadmill. Something about my stride on a treadmill has always made my pain 100% worse. If I can run pain free inside or outside, it will totally change my training. I can't imagine how much I will be able to improve if I can train consistently. Anyway, I think I'm going to become a walking advertisement for this stuff!

COPIED FROM ABOVE THREAD>>>>> Credits for this one go to liznboys.

maroo~This is for you :teeth:

I copied it over here....

I am laughing SOOOOO hard. I am so sick...coughing like crazy. I think this picture did more to clear out my lungs than the medicine. :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Backstory: I had been talking on that thread about walking vs running and that I do better on the treadmill (it is opposite now with my new treadmill :scratchin) and said that it would be great if they could just set up a treadmill in front of the castle!

And out came this picture!

Cracked me up!!!

I am so, so glad this is working for you!!!! :)

I don't have any injuries...but wondering if this miracle stuff would work on preventing blisters?

Awesome! :thumbsup2 I attempted to tape my IT band for the race but it didn't help at all. :sad2: Sandy said (in this thread?) that she was told the IT band is the hardest to tape. I'm so glad that it's working for you.

Maroo - training on a treadmill is hard work - I get so bored... I lose focus way too easy!!

KT Tape is MIRACULOUS! It was the first time my Plantar fasciitis didnt bother me AND my ankles didnt swell (until I got home!)

Dolce I think we're just going to have to get my chiropractor to come down - or at least next time wear shorts and have the KT guy tape you IT - the chiro said it is the hardest, and almost impossible to do on your own!!

but for the plantar fasciitis - I had dh tape me!! The stuff you order is longer than the free samples in our bags btw!! :thumbsup2

just dont think I can wear the tape 24/7! (the chiro mentioned 3 days is the max I should be wearing it for the PF)

Still no training here ( :rolleyes1 shame on us!) fighting Bronchitis, and waiting for my foot swelling to go down - and this weather... <*cough excuse>

BTW WISH team is gathering together names and will do a virtual Valentine 5K or 10K - bling is involved for signatures!!

and they are also kicking around the idea of having a 5K Friday before the Half - for virtual participants, and for WISH'ers showing up - so stay tuned!

Sandy: I have a doc's apt. on Thursday in regards to my IT band. Prayers please that it's not a severe injury! I'm expecting to be injury-free for the 2011 marathon. (positive thoughts. positive thoughts) If that's the case, I shouldn't need to be taped up.

I hope that you get well soon. I'm sorry that your foot is still swollen.

Dolce,
I have hip problems and the tape isn't really helping with that, but that only bothers me after I run and I can deal with that. I had some problems with my IT band last year (remember, I've had pretty much every hip/leg/foot injury possible on my left side) and ART really helped. The treatments are VERY painful, but also very effective. Sadly, the one ART guy in my area closed his business. If he were still here, I would be going there for treatments on my injury du jour (achilles and peroneal issues).

Maroo,
I always get blisters on a few of my toes because they tend to overlap no matter what kind of shoes I wear. I've just learned to ignore them. I keep thinking that I should eventually get some calluses, but nope, I just get blisters. Just this morning my oldest was asking me why my feet look so yucky. I have resorted to wrapping small pieces of regular athletic tape around my toes when I'm going to be walking a lot (I think it would bug me when running) and that helps. My mom is a walker and she puts pieces of moleskin over the parts of her feet that usually blister. You can find moleskin at any store like Walmart near the shoe insoles and other foot stuff.

How far are you walking this weekend? I had to do 6 miles today. I'll add one mile per week and will do 11 miles the weekend before the race. I don't really taper anymore because I don't think it is necessary for a half marathon.

So Sandy, when are you going to post that TR?

Can someone explain what "taper" means? I've seen it mentioned quite a few times. Thanks!

When you do long distance runs you usually peak in the length of your training run 2-3 weeks before your race. Then you do less mileage for the last few weeks. This gives your body time to recover from the long training runs so you're in peak form for race day. This isn't as important in half marathons, but all marathon runners do a taper. Hope that answers your question.
