Half Marathon - Train with me for Jan '11 - ...Shock - an update! 4/06! new pix

Alright then, I'll report in: Last night after work I got in 5 miles. This morning before work I got in another 5 miles. I picked-up the keys to my new apt. after work today () and I will run a 8 mile Turkey Trot on Thursday. Anyone else?

I got my 4 miles in Monday. I am going to Destin, FL for the weekend, but have big plans to do 5 miles on Saturday (or Friday) and maybe take a walk or two on the beach. :goodvibes

I leave right after work today...so I don't know when I will get the 3 miles in that I normally do mid-week - but I will figure that out.

I am not up to 8 miles to do the virtual Turkey Race thing... :)

Sandy...oh Sandy....... Where are you?!? popcorn::

Just a quick check-in as I'm the only person in my office today and I get to play receptionist. Actually, I have nothing to report. I haven't run since Saturday. I was supposed to do 3 miles last night, but had a minor fight with my DH instead. We're fine, he just does this before any trip. He has some major travel anxiety and doesn't always handle it well. Fortunately for me, he will be taking anti-anxiety meds before we get on the plane! I doubt I will run tonight because I need to pack for a quick trip to my parents for Thanksgiving. I am driving to their house early in the morning and plan to do the virtual 10K after we arrive. Then I have one more long run on Sunday and we are off to WDW!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!!

I was able to get about 2 miles in this morning. It was more of a leisurely walk - my dog even came with me!

I am in Destin and it was just beautiful this morning. :cloud9:

I will be doing a 5 miles walk in the next two days - which, I believe, is the longest distance I have walked so far. So I am excited to do it in Destin! :woohoo:

Happy Thanksgiving you guys!

Beautiful pic, Maroo. It sounds like a nice walk you had. At least you got out and did something. Good luck on your planned 5 miles.

I did do the 8 mile turkey trot this morning along with an estimated 37,000 people at my location. I have things to say -but I'm exhausted and need to start moving boxes right now. So, I'll leave you all with another Happy Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!

Hooray that you get to have to DESTIN time!! Even Muffin is getting in on the walking action!! WOOHOO! It looks gorgeous there!

Sandy, are you having some nice family time? Did you have a great holiday??

Keep up the good work everyone! You are all going to have to work extra hard if you ate like I did yesterday. :rotfl2:

On Friday, I was able to get 4.2 something miles in.

I had a great walk - and was way ahead of my pacing, which really threw me off on my walk.

My plan was to walk from the condo to Hwy 98, which I guessed was about 3 miles, and then walk back...but I was going to time myself (17 min mile pace) and turn around when the TIME said to turn around, since I had no idea what my distance would be. Figured that would be pretty close.

But I was not prepared to get to 98 BEFORE my time told me to turn around. I did not want to walk on 98, so I just turned around and came back - figuring my pace would get slower as I go and I would still be getting my miles in...

I even went in the other direction (past the condo) to the end of the road and turned back.

Long story short, I only walked 4.25 miles, but I did it faster than I thought I could at UNDER a 16 minute mile pace. I think that my stride on the concrete is longer than my stride on the treadmill? Not sure.

It was a very nice walk!

So...on tap for this week are 2 treadmill workouts and a 5 mile walk this Friday/Sat or Sunday. Depends on my schedule. Then next week is 6 miles!

I have no running to report. :sad2: I've just lost my motivation the closer it gets to our vacation. I'm telling myself that I have plenty of time to get the miles in after our trip and I sure hope that is true!

Maroo, I am significantly slower on the treadmill than I am outside. I know everyone says the treadmill is easier, but that is NOT true for me. I average 12:30 miles outside and about 13:40 inside. It drives me crazy.

Have a great week everyone!

Thursday I did an 8 mile Turkey Trot. They had an estimated 37,000 people. There were signs posted for x pace group – line up here. Each pace sign had written at the bottom: ALL walkers, strollers and dogs – line up at the very back. So, there were pace signs for up to 10 minute miles to try and organize everyone. Each pace sign had that same announcement written at the bottom: ALL walkers, strollers and dogs - line up at the very back. Also, they were doing a timed run vs. a fun run. The fun run was scheduled to start 15 minutes after the timed run began. The fun runners were to stay at the very, very back and out of the timed runner’s way. Their pace groups were to start lining up further back than what ours were.

Yeah, two things happened: Walkers ignored the “line up at the very back” signs and many of the “fun” runners went ahead and lined up with the chipped runners and began 15 minutes before they were supposed to. I crossed the start line and kept walking… and kept walking.. and kept walking for about 1/8 – 1/4 of a mile. I turned to the woman on my left and was like: Aren’t we supposed to be running by now? She was like: that’s what I thought. Finally we began running but for almost 2 miles I was tripping over walkers that ignored the signs to line up at the very back. There were families that had their arms linked and all. Parents walking with their young kids mixed all in with the runners. I almost trampled this 6 year old girl in the mess.

Between two miles of dogging walkers and also running faster to try to make up some time for having to have walked for so long, by mile 4 I was burning out. As I reached mile 4, I noticed that I was making up some of my time but realized that I was running too fast. I worked hard to slow it down just so I could last until the finish! So- I got my pace under control but then the hills started. I think there were three in total and they killed me! On one hill, I had to briefly walk for a few seconds before I could pick it back up. I was just too tired after the first four miles to deal with hills. I was also wearing a thin running jacket. It was freezing COLD that morning. I’d run in that jacket before for similar miles so I figured that I’d be fine. It wasn’t supposed to get out of the 50’s until after I was scheduled to finish my run. Yeah, I overheated. I had to slow down to a walk and struggle to take that jacket off with my bib pinned to the front of it.

Despite all of the obstacles, I still finished the 8 miles with a chipped time of 1 hr 19 minutes and something. It averaged out to a 9 1/2 minute pace. I wanted a decent time to take to Disney to see if that would help me be bumped up a corral.

Does anyone know how many corrals and placements there are at Disney? I’m still trying to figure that out.

I did skip my 16 mile run this week-end. It kills me. It’s the first long run I’ve skipped. But I’m exhausted and sore and have been working endlessly all week-end on this move. I’m still not done! I doing a 5 mile run tonight and then back home to work some more. My kitchen and bedroom are still a mess. For the most part, my living room, bathroom and closet are put together. With the move, I just wasn’t fueling right or getting enough rest to do a 16 mile run. I don’t think that my body could have handled it. I had been optimistic last week going in – thinking that I’d have no problem fitting that run in.

Yeah, right.

Maroo: Great Job!!! The more you train, the faster your pace will increase. Keep up the good work.

Dislver: I agree the treadmill is harder but I feel that a lot of it is mental. I HATE it. It’s so boring to watch the time slowly tick by and it makes your session feel much longer than it does if you were running outside. Don’t lose the motivation – you can keep it up!

Dolce -

GREAT job on the pace and surviving the Turkey Trot...I had never heard of that until this year!

No idea on the corrals...but am sure the Disney Marathon will be well organized and hopefully no one linking hands!

Oh, I do hope you will try to get a workout or two in before you go. I thought I would have more time on my vacation - but life gets in the way all the time - I just have to MAKE time.

I am SOOOO glad to hear that you guys are slower on the treadmill! I really like the treadmill, because I can watch TV and don't have to worry about any elements (and I have no excuse to not walk) - but I am glad that my slow pace on the TM may not translate to a slow pace on race day! I am very encouraged by this. Now I just need to build up my miles!

Well, I did my 5 miles on Monday and I have 8 miles scheduled for tonight. I'm currently trying to not get sick (fingers crossed). Is eyor back from WDW yet?

Sandy: are we still meeting up for dinner on Jan 9?

I'm getting really, really worried about Sandy! It's been days and and days since I've seen her!!

Anyone know what's going on there??

Does anyone have a phone number for Sandy?

I am getting concerned about her?

I did my 3 miles on Monday! It seems to be getting easier and easier!

My schedule got flip flopped this week, but my next three miles will be Thurs and 5 miles on Saturday.

Woo Hoo!! So far, so good! I have basically been going strong for almost 4 weeks now...which gives me a lot of hope as I keep at it. I know the long distances are coming...but if I just add a little at a time, I should be ok! :thumbsup2

How are you guys doing??

JINX!

Now I am REALLY concerned because we were both concerned within 6 minutes of each other.

I think everyone has gone underground -

or joined me in panicking... its time to get some serious panic attacks over with!

Seriously!

A month to go. and that's it.

Health wise - I twisted my hip so I'm limping, I stepped on a piece of glass, that was inbedded nice and deep like... not that I'm a glutton for punishment..

DH is still jobless - he has an interview next Tuesday - please God, let this be the one... :wizard: He has gotten a "side job" which takes the computer away from me..

Thanksgiving came and went. Lots of cleaning - its Maroo's fault, she posted she cleaned the baseboards, and I realized that needed to be done here as well.

DD is a teenager, she pretty much tries not to talk to us (we get her to giggle, and she realizes she's not talking to us!!) She spends the rest of the time on her computer.

I'm not sleeping well at all. Nightmares. I'm working about 2 days a week.

Almost adopted a Yellow Lab. DIL sent an email that her uncle wanted to rehome this 5month old puppy, I called and said we'd take him... turns out he didnt own the dog, it was his neighbor's dog, and it is being mistreated. I told him to snatch it in the middle of the night if they kept it outside during this coming cold snap...(how dare someone buy a purebread dog and leave it as a puppy out in the elements?)

Well... that about sums it up.

Watched the HGTV Special on Disney Behind the Scenes Magic for the Holidays. I cried. I would love to be go to Disney at Christmas... (right now, anytime but during the marathon!!)

Hope all is well with everyone - and everyone is getting their miles in!! :wizard:

Oh no!!!

We will pray with you!

Glad I could be responsible for someone doing something good! I keep getting blamed for taking trips to Disney, upgrading resorts...you know...stuff that costs people money.

DD is a teenager, she pretty much tries not to talk to us (we get her to giggle, and she realizes she's not talking to us!!) She spends the rest of the time on her computer.

That sounds pretty normal!

I'm not sleeping well at all. Nightmares. I'm working about 2 days a week.

Oh no. I am so, so sorry.

Aw. I hope u can rescue the dog...not that I advocate stealing it...but if it is left alone in the cold....... :(

Well... that about sums it up.

Oh no!! I missed it! And we didn't DVR or whatever it is called either! :(

Hope all is well with everyone - and everyone is getting their miles in!! :wizard:

SANDY!!!!!!!!

I have not even read your post yet...

just glad you are back.

ETA: Ok...I read it and my thoughts are in pink. Welcome back! :)

Geez, Sandy, you've had a rough week! I was so worried about you! So glad you're back with us. Take care of yourself!!!!!!

Hey Sandy! I'm happy that you're back! :goodvibes Fingers-crossed for your husband's interview on Tuesday. Don't stress about the 1/2 marathon, just do what you can. Christmas at Disney is beautiful -but very crowded. I was there last Dec 23 - Jan 2 to celebrate my 30th b-day. I was at the MK for Christmas Eve and EPCOT for Christmas Day.

Hello all!
I'm back. Loved Disney! It was wonderful as usual. Had a great time even though I did get sick. Not H1N1, but sinuses. :headache: Slowed me down but didn't stop me.

No one could keep up with me walking through the parks. :thumbsup2 DH has finally decided that he needs to start exercising but isn't sure about walking with me. :confused3

I haven't been able to do anything since we got back as the weather has been bad. I am hoping that tomorrow will be better and I'll be able to get out.

Maroo - loved the picture of Destin and way to go on losing the pound.

Sandy - prayers all around. How is your foot?

Dolce - how is the new apartment? way to go on the turkey trot. and getting the runs in. I never understand why people can't simply follow signs and rules. Things would go so much more smoothly.

Tim - way to go on getting to the gym. Come on 199!:cheer2: You can do it. :cheer2:

Dislvr - guess you are at Disney now. I hope you have as wonderful of a time as we did.

Happy Belated Thanksgiving to everyone.:goodvibes

Lisa - what is up with the crazy forecast? You guys really gonna get ice? In Southern MS??? Are we really going to get snow? So very strange. :confused3

But I can tell you for sure that I won't be walking OUTSIDE this weekend.

I am such a wimp. :sad2:

You guys up north can make fun of me all you want...I don't walk in snow. Or temps below 40. Seriously. :cool2:
