Hakuna Matata: Official thread Part deux

Hi Everyone!! It's great to be a part of a team!! :goodvibes

The 2009 Half Marathon will be my first. I just started a training program in Downtown Chicago, which is really great. The coaches are awesome, and it's fun to run with other people sometimes instead of just by yourself. My dad is a runner, so he's going to run the half with me (it was my way of bribing him to go to Disney, LOL).

We live in IL, but we actually go to MI a lot in the summer. My MIL has a house in Sister Lakes, which is near St. Joseph/Benton Harbor. I wish I lived in FL though, winter stinks!!

Thanks for letting me join your team, and I hope that my walk/running can contribute well!! :hippie:

Welcome, M Kasch!:cheer2:

We are off on vacation tomorrow, and looking forward to it! You all work hard while I am off playing! :cool1:

See you when we get back!

Welcome m kasch!

Yesterday was a "cross training" day for me, I worked out on the bowflex and did a pilates tape, then walked 2 miles, as the dogs need their exercise! Today is supposed to be a "rest" day, but the dogs will again need their exercise, so I will probably do another 6 mile walk for them. My "rest" days seem to fall on the weekend when we are doing construction projects:rotfl2: On Saturday, we are going down to Ft Collins for a St Patricks Day 5K race, it looks like it will be raining and snowing - what fun! We are not going to get the snow that was predicted for today, that storm fizzled out, but it will be cooler than it has been, and the wind is back. It was really nice to have 2 days with little wind.

Kathy - have a great vacation.

Dave - glad to hear the ankle is doing well!

Have a good day team!

I had another perfect workout day again. That's saying something since it was on the tready which I hate. Like yesterday 4 miles of various speeds between 12 and 15 min per mile.

Then my calistetics and stretching routine for 2 hours total. Now it's back to work for me.

Erica is still around, just down with the sore bunions. She sends her love to the team.

Be very careful what you wish for, even though I agree with you about the winter description (I was born and raised in Colorado), the Summer months here in Florida can be VERY, VERY grueling and draining on the body :headache:.

BUT, I will take the heat and humidity over the blizzards anyday :cool1:!

Again, welcome to our team M_Kasch !

I am so glad to read that you are having some great workouts again Dave ! Please give Erica a big hug for me . I know that she is in good hands with you taking a care of her while she is down and out!

TEAM ALERT TEAM ALERT

Please, please, please send me a personal message of your weekly totals. Look at the yellow box above and click on private messages. That will take you to the PM board. If you read down the menu on the left you will find "send Private message" click on that and just address it to Steffwalks! I know that it is a little more work for each of you, but it makes my job much easier!!! Thanks! :grouphug:

Got my 7 miles in the other day. Yay! It was a hard 7 miles. I fought 20 -25 mph winds on the first half and was exhausted by the second half. I am thinking that any wind over 10 mph should qualify for DOUBLE mileage points. :rotfl: At least half of it anyway!

It was finally warm enouth for me to walk outside at 6 am this morning. It was dark though. I go to a health club and do my walks from there. It was erie walking in the dark. My path took me by some poverty areas, I passed three other people walking, 2 had bats and the other had a piece of pipe. These people were not together but passed at diffferent times. I guess this is not the best neighborhood to walk at night.

I got in 5 good strong miles and then did my stretching. Total time was 2 hours for the whole thing. I didn't time the walk, just went as I felt. I think I was averaging about 13 min per miles. I went to the top of the Hill at WKU and then back to the health club.

I want to put Erica on trial:

She has bunions that hurt and will be going into surgery for them on the 11th of April, then she will be recovering for 3 to 4 weeks. So it will probably be about a month and a half from now before she can contribute to the team.

Do you guys want me to take her off the roster and then reinstate her after she recovers?

Do you want to leave her on the roster and everyone have to do one extra mile a week to cover for her?

Please let me know your feelings, she and I are fine with whichever way y'all want to go with this.

As one who walks in wind on almost a daily basis, I agree that wind should count as DOUBLE milage! Yesterday because of the wind, I did a shorter walk just because the route did not take me into the wind for very long. I had a strong side wind from the left, then a strong side wind from the right. I only had to walk into the wind for about a half mile. But because that road only goes for 2 miles, my total walk was only 4.7 miles instead of my normal loop which is 6.2 miles.

Dave, I would be glad to donate a mile a week to Erica. With other illnesses and injuries, I would think that all the teams would have this problem sometime during the year, and it will all even out in the end.

Donna - I am the opposite, give me an occasional blizzard over a summer of heat and humidity. I grew up on the east coast, I was SO glad to escape the humidity. Of course, we have talked about retiring to Florida, and even own a lot in Port Charlotte, but we were never planning to stay in Florida during the summer. We would be the opposite of the snow birds, living in Florida in the winter and traveling in the summer. Now that we have moved to Cheyenne, we may just stay here.

Have a great day team!

G'day team!! And welcome to M-Kasch!!

I had some problems with my left shins (what is it with my left side?!). I felt pressure in my lower front part of the leg when I would bend down/squat down to file at work. Probably from increasing my intervals too quickly this week. At first, my chiropractor was worried that it might be a stress fracture - He did a REALLY REALLY painful ART treatment :headache: . It was the worst one to date so far but he had me do some squats afterwards and it felt a lot better! So I'm hoping that's all it was.

Lynn - How do you like the Bowflex? My dad is thinking of buying one - we don't know anyone who has one though and of course the commercials make it look great! He plays golf and badminton regularly (well golf in the summer anyway :rotfl: ) and was looking for something different to use on his off days.

bunnyfoo

Turns out the PC Police felt that is was wrong to stigmatize people who didn't know the first thing about shoe tying by making them wear velcro. Now they have to settle for slipons!!! :lmao:

:rotfl: :rotfl:

I loved the Trainer at the Gym tonight! I rode the bike for 4 miles warming up while waiting for him. I told him what I needed/wanted- He seemed to ask the right questions. He listed the machines I should be using, the repetitions, without building ‘Body Builder’ muscles. Then showed me how to use them correctly. :goodvibes

That's great Margie! I'm thinking of getting a trainer for a month or so - at least until the Minnie marathon. I want to make sure I'm doing things properly. Did you pick your own trainer or did someone recommend him to you?

Bats and clubs! Yikes! :scared1: I guess that would be a different way to get some speed work into one's routine. :rotfl:

Hope Erica feels better soon  And I would be more than happy to donate an extra mile or two if it will help out.

For Sweet Erica, Oh Yes...I will donate a mile or whatever is needed to keep her active on our Team! :grouphug:

BunnyFoo: I purchased a Gym Membership for a year. I used Internet Coupons Specials...WAY cheap. They have three different rooms of equipment plus the free weights. I told them what I needed. They told me the high points of each trainer then they 'Recommended' who they thought was best for me. He is a non-walker/runner, but he listens. I purchased two sessions. I am doing repititions with low weights. I do NOT want to have the Body Build Muscles! Tonight I need to decide it I need or can afford him for additional sessions. :yay:

Nice Workout, Panda! I like walking early but since I broke my ankle at 6:am, it is a biggie for me to see where I am stepping. :cool1:

I Recommend: I ordered a hydration belt and some capri's from Running Wear House. Great 15% Discount, Free Shipping, and they were Fast!

PS...Connie, Thanks for all the work you do as our WONDERFUL Captain! I really appreciate the way you have made our spreadsheet so easy to read...THANK YOU!

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to check in since it's been a while since I posted. I've been reading, just haven't had the time to post. I'm still coughing a bit, but I've got a lot more energy than I've had for the past month and a half. I've even been outside a few times to run. Yea!!! I know it will take a while to get my mileage back up to where it should be for Minnie, but I don't want to do too much too soon.

Welcome to all the new team members!!

Dave: I'd be happy to donate a mile to Erica while she's recovering.

Margie: I'm glad you like the trainer.

Scott & Lynn: I continue to be impressed with the mileage you get in despite your windy weather.

Bunnyfoo: Hope the ART helps.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Welcome back Cindy:flower3: , we missed you. Glad you are ready to begin your training again. Wish we were doing Minnie with you but we needed to take some time for body maintance.

Than you everyone for voting to cover for Erica during her rehab period. It will be good motivation for her to get started again so she won't let you wonderfull guys down.

It rained today so I couldn't play outside. I was a tad sore from the 5 miles yesterday on hills but not bad. The stretching is really helping. My legs feel much better. Even that evil achellies is behaving it's self.

So my totals for today were an easy 3 miles (15 mpm) pace and a good calistics and stretching routine.

Walk strong everyone.

Stretchy Panda:hippie:

I get the milage in because I do not have to go to work, so my days are basically free. Scott has to work at it, as he often works 60+ hours a week. We are also lucky, that other than the wind, our winter weather has been decent for getting out and walking/running.

Scott loves the bowflex, he was very skeptical about it at first, as he was into free weights, but he decided that it works as well as free weights. I do not care for weight training of any kind, but I prefer the bowflex to free weights, and it does not take up a great deal of room.

It was supposed to be really ugly today, so I did a long walk (7 miles) yesterday. That means today I just need to get the dogs out, so I will do about 2 miles. At the moment, it does not look bad, but is going to be cloudy with rain/snow showers all day. I will try to get out before the wind starts. I tried to do that yesterday, there was no wind when I started my walk, but it was blowing at about 15mph by the time I got home.

Have a good day team!

Question on the miles for Erica. :flower3:
Where do we send them?

Just wanted to drop by and say hi! :yay: It's been a busy week but PTL it's Friday!! Another week down. :woohoo:

Welcome to M-Kasch! Happy to have you on the team. :grouphug:

I just bumped up my runs an extra half mile -- it's not much but I would gladly pass it on to Erica if it would help her. I hope to make it a full mile soon!

Also, a very belated, but heart-felt, "thank you" to all who have wished my husband and our family well during his deployment. :flower3: It was very much appreciated. I may even have teared up a bit but don't let that get around...;)

I hope you don't mind me popping in here without any trash-talking plans. (Darn it all, I've been caught unprepared--guess you can figure out I wasn't a Boy Scout.)

If it's all right with you, I'd like to donate today's XT miles/time to Erica: 11.25 miles & 2:00 (elliptical, as I'm rehabbing a knee). Where do I send them? In the meantime, I'll just deduct them from the total I report to Ohana to save Jeanne the hassle of tracking.

Oh! that's the sweetest thing! I will take care of it for you. No need to worry about reporting it any further!

Everybody else, just make a note that you did a mile for Erica when you PM me, and I will take care of it! Thanks

Hello everyone! First I want to apoligize for joining, posting once, and then disappearing! But that is how my life is sometimes. ;) I have been super busy this week. We are having a St. Paddy's party tomorrow and I started getting the house cleaned up and company ready...well that turned into Spring cleaning, clearing out, organizing, carpet cleaning, putting up pictures I had been meaning to do for 3 years, rearanging furniture...you get the idea. It's really too bad that house cleaning doesn't count for "hours". :laundy: I was on such a roll and acomplishing so much, that I missed some workouts. I will PM in the 3 that I did, and promise to do better next week!

One exciting thing I did do this week was I sent in my registration for my first Run. It's in 3 weeks and I live right down the road from where it is held. I have wanted to do this one for years, but never had the guts to try before. It is 5 miles and I KNOW I will have to do a combination of walking/running, but you have to start somewhere right? If I can do 5 miles, that is only 21 more miles to go for the WDW marathon!:rotfl: For extra motivation I printed 2 8x10 pictures I took of last Januarys marathon runners in AK, and have them taped to my treadmill. I keep picturing myself right there with them next year.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!
