Good luck to team Chicago - Rick, Mike & Liz! I can't wait to hear about the 10 miler :)

May
26 - Fleet Feet Sports Soldier Field, 10 Miler, Chicago, IL - Rick, Mike & Liz

Vicky: Will you continue with the Pilates class?

Robbie: What is your training plan like?

AFM: I ran two miles today and afterward, felt a slight pain in my back. My official training schedule starts on Monday so I'll not do any running tomorrow or Sunday. We are tent camping with some other families this weekend in the foothills of the NC mountains. I hope to do some hiking while there but I will be sure to give my back the attention it needs so that I'm ready for Monday.

Oh yeah, I signed up for the 2013 WDW marathon.:cool1: So much for being patient and taking it slow.

Have a great weekend, everyone and good luck to the racers!

Kick rear Rick, Mike and Liz!

Congrats ES for signing up for the marathon! I still have to pull the trigger. Don't know if anyone read another thread of mine, but I almost got bamboozled on renting DVC points - the owner made the reservation (legit, all checked out), I paid, and then two weeks ago, he cancelled and I never heard from him again. thankfully, paypal gave me my money back but now I'm back to square one re reservations and I'm starting to wonder if it's a sign I shouldn't do it bc of some other issues I alluded to awhile ago. so I'm waiting and seeing.

thanks Luzz! adn I love mixing friends with races - that's what I did for my last half. and I can't believe your bro lost all that weight in only four months - kudos to him!

Vicky - that mousse looks delish!

Piglet - great report and congrats on your time! I hope to get that time someday.

So my 100 mile month may be a reality. After running 5.13 miles this morning, I'm officially at 85.9 miles. So only 14.1 miles to go! I'm taking saturday and sunday off as we are going out of town, but should easily get those last miles in if it doesn't rain (yes I'm a wimp) as I try to do the 5.13 miles M-F. Yeah! Wish me luck and pixie dust!

Good luck to weekend racers!

Robbie: What is your training plan like?

Well I am still tweaking my plan, but it is 18 weeks long and basically looks like this: (beware, it is on the aggressive side)
Mondays: Cross train (mostly a core workout)
Tuesdays: Alternate between easy run and a hill loop around my neighbourhood (5-8 miles)
Wednesdays: Easy runs (3-5 miles)
Thursdays: Speed day. Alternate between Yasso 800s, mile repeats and tempo runs
Fridays: Day off!
Saturdays: Alternate between runs at race pace and easy slow runs (6-11 miles)
Sundays: Long run day. Increase mileage for two weeks, then step back for a week. Have four runs of at least 20 miles with the longest being 23 miles

Happy Friday team!

Kimberly - I think the 100 miler is totally doable! It's pretty awesome that you've already logged nearly 86 miles! Congrats! I didn't know about the DVC fiasco! Did you have to get your money directly from Paypal because he wouldn't return it? If you post to the WISH FB page, someone might have the name of a DVC owner they've rented from before.

Elizabeth - Awesome! I'll add you to the race calendar. I'm really excited you'll be there in January! Take care of your back and go easy on the miles. I'm thinking I'll pick up the pilates in July after I'm done my baking class. My chiro will be going on vacation in August so I'll definitely have more time then.

Robbie - What kind of core exercises do you incorporate into your cross training routine? I do the same with my training plans, two weeks of increased long run mileage and then a cutback week. I've found that it helps to keep the injuries to a minimum.

That's great that your BIL will be joining you in January! How was he able to drop the weight so quickly? What's his secret :)

AFM - Not much of import to report. I'm suppose to go and play beach volleyball tonight but it looks like it's going to rain. I've heard the games go on rain or shine (unless there's lightning). Kind of like running I guess. I think this weekend, I might finally go and see 'The Avengers'. I guess it's only been out for ... oh a month now? LOL

Have a great long weekend everyone! Or regular weekend ... Kim, Saylan and Sue.

Hi Team!

Just checking in after our Soldier Field ten miler race this morning. I will catch up on posts this week, as we are on vacation and I will have time to get online while at my MIL in Oxford MA.
I survived the race and am now paying for it. I've been having alot of pain in my left achilles, calf and heel. It had been subsiding so I figured I would do the race this morning. I think I pretty much beat the heck out of it and can barely walk now. I was to pigheaded to give up on the race fee. :rolleyes
Liz did really well in the race and beat her last years time. Rick also did okay. I finished in 1:43:26, about five minutes slower than last year. I'll take it considering that I haven't trained in a very long time (months actually)

I did happen to score some goodies recently. I got two pairs of KSwiss running shoes for 40% under wholesale at my running store job. KSwiss does the deal for employees on a quarterly basis.
I also got a Timex GPS Global trainer watch for really cheap. It was marked down to $129 at a local Dicks Sporting Goods. I had the salesman open it to make sure it was okay and it was missing the handle bar bike mount. He offered it to me for $100 so I grabbed it! I used it this morning at the race for the first time and it worked great. The GPS has gotten mixed reviews, but it was spot on and made me very happy! Liz will be inheriting my old Polar watch.

Hope all of you are well! - Mike :cool2:

Mike, Liz, and I ran the Soldier Field 10 Mile race today and had a good time. The race went well, and while I am pleased that I finished, I was hoping for a better time. But I came face to face with the reality that if you don't do any run training for a month, you are going to see it in your performance. And I did. After AVON, it will be run training, baby! (Got to start my training program for the Full in October).

But I am very pleased anytime I get to run with Mike and Liz. I wore my W.I.S.H. (had to represent!) and got a lot of good feedback from runners on the course. The race goodies were cool -- a medal in the shape of a football helmet and a nice stadium blanket! The blanket got more comments from my family than the medal did. :rotfl:

My full race report and some photos are up on my blog site.

I hope everyone else's races and training runs today were productive and injury-free!

Mike: sending you lots of pixiedust: and wishing you and the family a relaxing vacation this week! And Liz, bring home the Gold on your Half while you're out there!

WTG racers!!!! You all did WISH proud!!!!.

Mike ouch seems like you and Dave are having the same issues , maybe your vacation came at a good time, rest, stretch and have a great time on your vacation with your family.

Rick I have never done a race without my WISH shirt regardless of where it is and always always get comments.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend off for some intervals before it gets hot.

Have a super duper day!!!!

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - We used public transportation only in Honolulu, as we had toured that island on our January trip, it was fine. On the other islands we rented a car to get around. I think the pups miss us, but only when they see us, otherwise, they are happy with whomever they are with, as long at they are getting fed and some attention!

Kim - Hi Kim!

Tandy -

Mike - Take care of the achilles, calf and heel! Glad to hear that Liz did good!

Rick - Glad you had a good time at the race!

Kimberly - Good luck getting in those final miles this month.

Robbie - Great that you have a running partner for the Jan. races!

Elizabeth - Tent camping cannot be good for your back! You will do fine in the marathon, plenty of time for training.

AFM - Back from Atlanta, good time visiting with family! No exercise to speak of. Very windy today, need to get into regular exercise program now that all the big trips are over for a bit! I put on a few pounds during all those trips, and now need to peel them off again!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Happy Monday, everyone.

Kimberly: I hope that you can make it to Disney in January. I haven't rented DVC points yet but when I do, I think I'll only do it from David's Vacation Club Rentals. I'm worried about the very thing you described. I'm glad you got your money back. We'll only be there for a few days; wish I could afford more but going in September for the ToT race prevents that.

Vicky: Did you get to play beach volleyball?

Great run Mike, Liz, and Rick! Mike, I hope you recover soon.

Lynn: You are correct, camping isn't good for the back. However, my sweet DH bought a cot (with a small mattress) for me and the back pain is now just a small twinge. Glad you had fun in Atlanta!

AFM: I'm back from camping covered in dirt, sun, and ant bites! I managed to have a lot of fun in spite of waking up one day with fire ants in my sleeping bag and ticks in my youngest daughter's hair

Did a 4.6 mile hike on Saturday and an 1.5 hour canoe trip on Sunday. Felt great both days. Beautiful weather: not too hot and plenty of shade. No more camping until early September and we'll go to a higher elevation for cooler weather.

Hi all! I'm still here :)

Great to hear of everyone's activities over the past weekend!

Saturday evening was my first time back out on the pavement since the week before. I've been using too many excuses to not just go out there and get it done.

As a result, I'm back up in weight, over 250# again :scared1:

I've decided that my focus has been in the wrong direction lately. I just need to focus on weight loss and worry about speeding up once I enter into my Half Marathon Training mode in a few months from now.

I'm working on a training plan that I'm just going to call my maintenance plan. Get into a pattern and really start to get back on the ball with loosing weight. Last year, around September, I got down to my lowest point of 242#. Once Marathon hit, I had edged back up just a few pounds. But that's been 5 months now and I've had no progress.

Last weekend I spent at the Indy Speedway for qualifying and bump day and ate way too much fried foods and other generally bad idea foods. I paid the price for it, in more ways than just putting on more weight.

I'm also stressing about things that just really don't have much to do about anything really. My old iPhone 3G that I've been using as my music and GPS unit appears to be dying. The 2 pairs of Asics that I bought last year a re showing signs that they're wearing out, as my legs are starting to hurt while running in them.

I have a new pair of Brooks Trance that I bought on deep discount that I'm now using as my trainers, I just don't have 2 pair to rotate. The iPhone isn't a necessary item that I actually NEED to go running and if I'm all that interested in how far I went, the tools online I can manually enter the info anyways.

Thanks for letting me air that out, I just feel like I need to get it all down and out of my head in order to start making the necessary changes to get back on the right track.

Good Morning Team!

Elizabeth - That sounds like quite a camping experience! Glad the back is better!

Kipp - Sounds like a plan! Good luck with the shoes and iPhone issues.

AFM - Got out for a dog walk in the high wind yesterday, but wimped out on the weight training I was planning on. Today will be nice, so a good bike ride will be in the schedule.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi team! Hope everyone had a restful and fun long weekend!

Kipp - I have a 3GS and I feel like it's time to replace it. I feel like it's running slowly but I'd like to wait for the next iPhone to be released. Hopefully the phones can hold out for a few more months. Have you tried using MapMyRun.com to map out your routes and figure out mileage? I hear ya on the weight... it will come off once you start training again.

Elizabeth - I did go for volleyball on Friday. We got matched against some higher ranking teams and we lost :( But it's all for fun so hopefully no one is too upset. Yikes on the fire ants! Did you get a lot of bites?

Lynn - Welcome back! I'm glad to hear the public transit worked out. When's the next big trip and where are you going?

Rick - Congrats on your 10 miler! I'm going to check out your RR after posting here.

Mike - Ouch! Take care of that achilles! It's hard to pass up a race with the costs these days and even harder when you have friends running. Safe travels and I hope you rest your achilles! We still have those Mickey bars you know ;)

AFM - I played beach volleyball on Friday night and got a calf cramp while diving for the ball. Ouch! It was pretty embarassing but I still managed to get up and continue playing. It was pretty sore on Saturday so I decided I'd rest it this weekend, rather than run on it. It's still a bit sore today so I'll have my chiro look at it tonight. I felt old! LOL I made a lemon curd instead from a recipe that Miranda gave me. I blogged about it here.

I'm debating doing a 5k in June but it's $60. When did races get so expensive?

I've decided that my focus has been in the wrong direction lately. I just need to focus on weight loss and worry about speeding up once I enter into my Half Marathon Training mode in a few months from now.

I agree, go for the weight loss as primary focus. According to this article, lose weight and your speed will improve as a bonus!

A five-pound weight loss can take more than two minutes off your half-marathon time. Plus, weight loss can reduce your injury risk and improve your biomechanics.

Hello team!

Regina - I've been going to ballet class since February. I did take ballet lessons as a kid but that was a looong time ago, so while I remember stuff I still have to re-learn the correct technique. Great job at your race!

Eva - Congrats on your pregnancy!

Kimberly - Great job on your 15k!

Robbie - Great RR!

AFM - Had a nice long weekend. I've been getting my runs in but not much other exercise.

Have a good night!
Emily

Hello all! I'm excited that I'm only 3.5 miles away from my 100 mile goal - pls send pixie dust that I can get that in tomorrow - so far looking good!

Question - as you know, my BLT reservations fell through - I can't get in there again unless I want to pay over $2,000 :headache: uh, no thanks. I can get Wilderness lodge though for less than 1/2 of that. two questions:

1. is there a bus from wilderness to the start of the marathon?

2. if I have friends staying at BLT and I am supposed to watch their kids for the 1/2 - will it be possible to get a taxi from wilderness to BLT early that morning - or will things be blocked off - and when does that start?

I'm really mad about what happened, but am trying to make the best of the situation. thanks!

Vicky: I have 15 bites but not all from ants. It appears that I have several spider bites too. :scared1:
I've been looking for a basic muffin recipe that I can adapt to whatever fruit that I have in the house. Something of a base muffin recipe that works well with most fruits. Do you have a recipe like that?

Kimberly: There will be transportation from all hotels for all races for that weekend. You should be able to get a taxi that early. Congrats on the 100-mile goal; that is fantastic!

Kipp: I think you are right about the weight loss; you have time to increase your speed over the next several months and losing weight will increase your speed naturally. Don't worry about the running tools that you mentioned (extra pair of running shoes or iPhone). It sounds like you are fighting mental obstacles more than anything else. Try running or walking a day without any music or way to track your mileage; just get out there and run or walk while listening to your breathing, your foot strikes, etc. Learn to listen to your body and learn to ignore that voice in your head that tells you that you need all these accessories to be successful in your training. You'll feel stronger and more confident after you do that.

AFM: It is raining quite a bit here because of the remnants of a tropical storm that is moving up the east coast. I'll head to the gym this afternoon to get in my run.

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I can only answer question #1. Yes there will be buses to get to the marathon. Marathon weekend is the one rundisney event where there isn't "host" hotels. There will be tons of buses on the road over the 4 days from races and expo from all the disney resorts so no worries there.

Not sure what happened to your BLT ressies as I haven't been up to date on all the posts but I am sure that sucks.

Kim

Yay! You got this! An easy 3.5 tonight or tomorrow and you are there! Very exciting! (I ran 3.2 miles today but am 6 miles away from 100 for May. I don't think I'll make it this month. I need to rest now for the 39.3 mile AVON Walk this weekend).

How are you going to celebrate?
