Hakuna Matata - Gobbling up the pavement and thankful we can!

Hello!

Kim, we are having a Hakuna Matata Virtual Turkey Trot. The rules (suggestions, really) are on the front page. It will be next week. Come and play!

Elizabeth - Dang, I didn't mean for you to gain weight! C'mon over for dinner!

Saylan - Get a RoadID. Don't worry about family medical history. Unless you have a specific problem, that piece of information can be obtained later. I have the FIXX ID and the other kind. If you are unsure whether you want the bracelet or the anklet or the shoe or whaterve, the ID is interchangeble. You can put it on any of them. Add a bracelet, ankle, shoe id (without the extra ID) for less than $5. My road ID has contact lens on it. My saying: RELENTLESSFORWARDMOTION

I don't have anything specific except spontaneous blackouts but it's unlikely anyone would have cause to need to know that for running purposes.

I thought of a good phrase to put on it, I think. I'm going to see if it fits. My mom really likes the idea of the id bracelet (my dad was gone for 6 hours before anyone notified us of his heart attack and he had it in the gym where we were listed as emergency contacts. :sad2:)

So you wrote Contact Lens on yours? Hmm I never even thought of that! I might get the bracelet and anklet. The pocket thing for the foot looks good but I dunno what I'd put in it. I want to get one of those water belts but I can't pick one that's best so I would think if I ever pick one, most stuff I would put in a foot pocket would go in one of those. :confused3 Ugh, so indecisive!

Also, dinner was amazing! We went to the Keg and I had the roasted goat cheese (with roasted red pepper salsa), roasted red pepper sirloin (with side caesar and fresh parmeasan ), and a brownie sundae for dessert. My b/f ended up finishing the last bit of the dessert but I definitely mowed through everything.

Motomiker: Thanks!

Also, once we know the prices of medals (mostly shipping) if it's not crazy high, I'd be in support as well!

Hey Team! I am finally back!

Mike- How are things going with your mom’s eye injections? The Hot Chocolate 15K sounds like fun! Was the jacket design pretty cool or did it not have a design since it was a jacket? Great race report! That’s fantastic you hit a new PR in the last 5k!

Margie- Yes you do owe me an e-mail! The race was this past Saturday (11/13). I’m glad the 5k on Sunday went well. Congrats to you and Nikki!!!! Way to go! 2nd in your age group!!!! Very cool!

Nikki- Congrats on your 5k this last Sunday. I’m glad it was an enjoyable event! Are you recovered from your fall now?

Connie- Glad to hear you finally started P90X! I can’t believe you have all your Christmas shopping done! I’ve started, but am not even close to finishing yet.

Emily- Cute costumes! Are you on Facebook?

Vicky- How do you wake up at 3:00am?! I think it’s fantastic you’re looking into a career change if you’re not happy in your job. What are you most interested in doing, or what do you feel most fits you?

Dave- Congrats to Sally on her job that fits your situation perfectly! I’m so glad your training seems to be going pretty well and that you are having a great end to your year. You deserve it!

Elizabeth- I’m sorry you had a rough run and are now sick!  Get better soon!

Lynn- Welcome back! Glad you and Scott had a great time at WDW! Is the snow sticking up there? If so, has it been melting pretty quickly? We haven’t had any snow yet.

Eva- That’s awesome you won a weight loss challenge at work! BTW, thanks for not deleting me on FB.  How’d your run go?

Saylan- WELCOME!!!!! We are happy to have you with us!

Happy belated birthday to Mary, Elizabeth and Hope! I’m so sorry I missed telling you all on your actually birthdays and hope you all had fabulous birthdays!

AFM, things have FINALLY started mellowing this week. I switched over to my new job on 11/1, but I was then working full time and spending my spare time on my race stuff that I was finishing up for my old job. So I still had no time for getting back into training. I found out today that my dad (who was announcing for us at my race on 11/13) told everyone that it was my supervisor’s idea. Um what?!?! I don’t think so! All I can say is it’s a good thing I didn’t hear that at the time! I’m trying to let it slide with him though since I’m sure he didn’t realize his mistake and he seems to be getting pretty forgetful these days. I just keep telling myself he didn’t know what he was saying… All, in all I think it went pretty well. We had almost 70 runners show up but we had between 75-80 runners signed up. I was there by 6:45am to get everything set up and make sure things were good to go. There were no major issues that could not be resolved and no injuries occurred. We even had a band volunteer their time and performed live for everyone after the race and cheered on all the finishers. Truth be told I’m pretty proud of myself. I still can’t believe I actually did it all from start to finish. I’m still wrapping up the last minute details of ordering a 2nd round of t-shirts and getting one last check before we give our proceeds to the non profit organization we chose. I don’t know if I’ll do it next year though…will have to think on that for awhile.

As for the new job, it’s going pretty well. I love getting off at 5pm every day and I like the ladies that I work around. The atmosphere is completely different than what I was working in and I am still trying to adjust to it. It kind of got off to a rough start though. I helped with the elections in the county on 11/2 (my 2nd day on the job) and worked from 8a-3a the next morning. I went home and made it back to work by 10am the next day, but must have caught a stomach bug or something because I left at 10:30am after vomiting at work. (I knew I didn’t feel well when I woke up that morning but thought it would go away) I felt really bad about having to go home sick on my 3rd day but there is no way I would have made it through the day. I’m still learning a lot, but it’s been a good change for me so I can focus on my priorities instead of work. Yesterday, Kyle and I went to the gym for the first time in forever and had a good work out. Today, I ran a little over a mile in my vibrams (first time running in them). We’ll see how sore I am tomorrow! If I’m not too sore I’m going to keep upping the mileage until I’m back up at 3miles running in my vibrams and then get back into an actual training plan. So I think that’s about it for me. Oh, and I’m also trying to get into couponing as well.

How do I get the virtual turkey trot icon again? Sorry this is so long.

Had a GREAT run in the park with my running club! And then rather than Chipotle, I got swayed into going to Dallas BBQ with "the girls" and had a bacon cheeseburger. YUM! More calories than Chipotle would have been (I do a salad or the bol), but I haven't had a splurge day in a while. And if I gain, I will own my choice. :P

~beth

Connie will check it out.

Beth: that sounds yummy

Trainning is getting back on track which feels good. Can't believe marathon weekend is so close, I want to take my ticker down so I can't see it:upsidedow

Hope everyone has a great Thursday!!!!

Regina ~ Sounds like you're starting to get settled into your new job. That's great!! Good luck as it continues! And yay for the race coming off so well! :)

Hockeychic ~ Yes, it was DELICIOUS!!! LOL. We tend to make little piglets out of ourselves after races or even fun runs. So much so that on Sundays when there is a NYRR race, we meet up for what we call "Big Girl Breakfast" (Saturdays we just go over to the club meeting for bagels) at whatever diner can fit in a large, sweaty often noisy group of women who have just run a race.

AFM ~ HOPEFULLY we'll be able to go to the garden today. It's great for the kids to be able to run around, and it's nice for the teachers and paras to get out of the building. After school I've got a meeting about confirmation class on Saturday (I'm helping to lead) and then a wonderful (yes, that's sarcasm) appointment with the girlie doctor. Blech!

Oh yeah...I did switch back to on-property housing for Marathon Weekend. I'll be at Music. I love my sister, and while free was good, I couldn't shake the feeling that with her cat and her roommate's cat I'd end up with a massive allergy/reactive airway event and not be able to do the race. So... I've told her she can come and stay with me, so we'll see what happens.

Have a good day all!

~beth

Regina: Thanks! I'm loving it in here (it's great having people to talk to!). Congrats on the race and it sounds like it was a wonderful success. I hope the job continues to go well (we both started new ones recently so I know the nerves you get going into a new place).

Hockeychic: I know the feeling. Mine's 3 months away and I feel like I'll never be ready! :rotfl:

Beth: Girlie doctors ae so fun fun. My sympathies there! But it does sound like you have some fun stuff planned around it, so hopefully that'll offset.

Sounds like a good idea to avoid the kitties too. Better safe than sorry on race day!

Good Morning (and Thursday) everyone. Hope everyone's doing well. Time to sort out my RoadID stuff (got distracted yesterday). I sat down and watched ride-throughs on some of the rides and I think I've almost convinced the b/f that going to Disney would be fun. :woohoo: Hopefully by the weekend I can register.

I'm trying to decide if I should work on following Galloway's plan or Higdens this weekend. One calls for 3 miles and one calls for 6 miles on Saturday (last week was 5 for both) and it's difficult to know if I should be going up or down.

Good Morning Team!

Vicky – Vivky must be a typo thing, I keep catching myself typing that and having to go and correct it! I spent the last 5 years at work on the 9pm to 7am shift (we worked 10 hour shifts/ 4 days a week), sleep patterns can be a problem – I picked that shift because it was the only one I was guaranteed the weekends off, and Scott taught Scuba classes on the weekends, and I needed to be there to help.

Saylan – I wear orthotic inserts that were ordered thru a physical therapist, they do provide quite a bit of arch support. I never try on shoes without them. They are hard but have a layer of foam for cushioning. You are probably right in that your PT wants you to learn to walk correctly without artificial aids (inserts and shoes), maybe once he is happy with your walking style he will then suggest what you might do for inserts or specific shoes. Scott and I both wear RoadID’s, we have the ankle bracelet style. I do not have medical concerns, so that part is blank on mine, I use it more for identification, as I often do not have any other ID on me when we are at a race or out for a bike ride.

Mike – Good Morning!

Connie – Yesterday was sunny but cold, it never got above 35 degrees – today is supposed to be mostly sunny and 56 degrees!!!! Cold and snow not back in forecast until next week!

Kim – Glad to hear training is getting back on track!

Nikki – Hi!

Dave – Sounds like a good training walk. Hope Sally is happy enough at work to work until Jan. – then she can look for something else if she does not like the temp service.

Margie – Hi!

Beth – Glad you had a great run!

Regina – We have had about 2 inches, but it will all melt with todays high temps. Congrats that your race went off well, that is a lot of work! Glad that the new job is going well!

AFM – I ended up spending the day on errands, first it was paperwork I had to do for the accountant on my Dad’s estate, then I had to run all over town. The fun part of “running all over town” was seeing the Christmas tree that was cut down on the other side of the state that is headed to Washington DC to be the Capital Christmas Tree this year. It was on display in town on it’s way to DC. It was mostly covered on the back of a semi, but there was a window that you could look thru to see it. Today is going to be nice, so we (the dogs and I) will take advantage and go for a walk today!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Hi team!

Connie - Save me a seat at the table! I'm coming over for dinner! Your Thanksgiving dinner sounds delish! Do you have any help cooking?

Lynn - You know what? I think it's because the 'c' and the 'v' are right beside each other on the keyboard! I didn't realize that the Christmas tree had such a long way to travel! That is very cool though :) Hope you and the pups have a good walk today!

Saylan - Oooh, I love going to The Keg! I especially love their French Onion Soup! I agree with Connie, get a Road ID! There's a version where you can store detailed medical information but I think it involves the EMTs contacting Road ID - like Medic Alert, not sure how that would work in Canada. Definitely tell your BF that Disney is a lot of fun - but if he decides not to come, there are a lot of us who are making the Princess race a girls weekend!

Beth - Woo-hoo to staying on property! You'll be in the heart of all the excitment!

Regina - Glad to see you back and to hear that things are settling down at your new job! How's your body feeling after running in the Vibrams? Your race sounds like it was a success! Congrats on managing such a huge event! Any plans to organize another race any time soon? I would love to do something related to health care or to fitness so I'm spending the year exploring my options and seeing what I can do and what I'll like. Somedays I still think about film but I think I'd have to work for a bigger production company in order for it to be feasible. I'd love to work at Pixar!

AFM - I did another boxing session yesterday. Lots of fun - lots of thinking in order to remember the proper techniques for everything. I meant to go out and run this morning but I couldn't sleep last night so I ended up waking up late this morning. Will definitely go out on Friday morning though.

I've got a quick training session tonight and then yoga on Saturday morning. I'm also going to see the Harry Potter movie on Friday night with my friend. I had to do a little bit of convincing to get him to go since he thinks it's going to be mobbed with kids

Have a great day everyone!

Yeah he said I could get some over the counter ones... :sad2: I will probably just go to the running store and have them help me figure out if it's shoes or insoles for running purposes. I'm kicking butt (so to speak) at turning my glutes back on so walking is going well without inserts but I wore my normal shoes down so much they're making it difficult. I'll need a new pair of everyday shoes I think if I want to continue to improve.

lol I've been staring at the RoadID website for almost two hours now trying to decide what I should get. Rubber or fabric, what colours, what extras, what sizes, omg I'm the pickiest person alive!!! I'm thinking of getting one for my dad for his running shoes while he's at the gym. It might make a cool small Christmas gift.

Saylan - Oooh, I love going to The Keg! I especially love their French Onion Soup! I agree with Connie, get a Road ID! I love the Keg as well. I'm sure it wasn't a cheap dinner but it was great. I just found out my Grandmother (who hadn't seen me since September) was very shocked as how I look now. She made a slight comment about it at dinner but she mentioned to my mother that she noticed right away and wasn't sure what to say. :rotfl:

The Interactive RoadID include a website subscription but I wouldn't want to have to pay to renew it so I'd probably go Original, once I decide on the minor details of colour and style.

If he decides not to come, even if he does, I'd still love to connect with you ladies for a bit! Having someone to talk to would be great and we can all celebrate kicking 1/2 marathon butt! :grouphug:

Do you guys have VIP Theatres up there? It's a branch inside Cineplex Odeon theatres. We have one down here but I don't think there's too many around yet. They're great for shows like Harry Potter. Seating is assigned by number (and you can pick where you sit when you order your tickets) so there's not jostling for front of the line (or showing up 3 hours before to get a good spot). It's got tables every two seats with menus and you can order all the way up to the previews and it'll be delivered to your seat. Oh, and this includes alcohol since only people 19 and over can get in (hence why seeing movies like Harry Potter and Transformers is better in VIP).

My b/f loves it as well because the seats are leather and recline (with extra leg space for tall people like him). We saw Transformers and Star Trek there first and the pleasure of walking right in (not having to be early) and not having to watch it with tons of kids was a BIG plus. The amazing food just made it more fun.

Hi Team,

Regina~ The Hot Chocolate jacket is nice, it's embroidered with the race emblem and a double thick, zip up hoodie. Glad your job is going well! Say Hi to Kyle!

Dave & Scott~ It seems we are surrounded by more and more women on this team! Tough gig huh?

AFM~ no training again this week, too much going on, I have a half marathon coming up that I'm really not ready for...

Mom's vision is doing a little better, and she can read the newspaper with the help of a magnifying glass, but still can't drive.

Hope everyone has a good day, Mike:cool2:

Yes being around so many pretty princesses is rough but we must be strong.

My lady came home for lunch today and since I was off I baked Rosemary Salmon and seasoned potatoes then made cheese bread. She was thrilled with such a healthy and filling lunch.

I did a 2.5 mile training walk in the mall this morning to escape the rainy weather and after Sally gets off I'm taking her for her hr and 10 min training walk. Every walk counts right now with less than 7 weeks to go till the half for Sally and the Goffy for me.

Have a magical day dear friends.

Dave:hippie:

Every princess needs a man at arms, no? princess: You guys are just going to have to work quadruple duty, I guess. :rotfl:

Good Morning, Team! :wave2:

Saylan-Roasted Goat Cheese?
I have the pocket ID for the shoe and it just attaches to the shoe laces.
I like it. It is small but carries, ID key, and a little cash.

Okay - I have to ask, "Why was your Grandmother shocked by the way you look?"

Roasted Goat Cheese is amazing! It's got a light layer of crushed almonds, came with the salsa and some french baguette slices (like make your own bruschetta but a million times better!)

I saw a picture somewhere of someone using the pocket ID for a GU shot but somehow I think that's a bad idea, :confused3. I spoke to my Mom and she liked the idea of my picking up a regular shoe ID for my father for while he's working out at the gym since he has a pre-existing condition (and being unable to speak nearly cost him his life last time).

I'm going to order mine and his together. I'm going to get the shoe pouch, but also a wrist band, anklet band and regular shoe id strip so I can just move it around as I need depending on where/how I'm training. Maybe shoe pouch for races, anklet for shorter races, and wrist for at the gym? Now to pick colours... lol Another day or two and I should be ready to order. How do you remove it from the sport wrist id? That's the only one I can't figure out how to remove it from the images.

As for my Grandmother, I have been doing personal training at my gym since June. My trainer was beyond terrible and I saw no progress. She got fired in September (right after my birthday) and I got re-assigned. My Gradmother last saw me around my birthday. My new trainer is/was great. :worship: I wore a nice top to dinner that had no sleeves and my grandmother was shocked at my arms. :scared1: For being 90, sitting in one of the darkest restaurants ever, the fact she noticed was awesome. I'm really stoked that there's such a difference and my Grandmother was super supportive (she even squeezed my bicep). :rotfl: She just didn't know if she should say something.

I wish I could list progress on the front page but I haven't really lost any weight, just traded fat for muscle. :woohoo: I actually gained 20 pounds when I started training and I am almost back to my pre-training weight (3 pounds to go) so I guess you could say I lost 17 of the pounds I gained... It's really confusing, lol. I'm hoping to fo after photos soon so I can compare before and after. Maybe once I'm down in sunny Florida!

I did cross-training and a short run today. I did my standard back work-out of lat pulls, seated rows and dips/planks and then threw a 3 mile run in at the end. It was a stiff start but I'm glad I did it. Going to try and hit the shoe store this Saturday. Maybe along with shoes I'll find actualy running clothes so I can try running outside. I'm running in workout clothes right now and it's too cold for that!

I am way too chatty, omg. I apologize for my essays and essays of comments. I'm just so excited to have like-minded people to talk to who are so knowledgeable! :grouphug:

Hi everyone!

Beth- I’m glad you had a great run with the running club! Did you make it to the garden today? I think staying onsite at Music will work out better for you as it will make transportation and meeting up with WISH friends much easier.

Saylan- Thanks! Congrats on starting your new job. I am pretty pleased the race went so smoothly. Keep working on the bf! Did you pick out your roadID stuff yet? What colors did you decide? We don’t have VIP theaters here. Congrats on toning down too- that’s great your grandmother noticed!

Lynn- That’s cool you got to see the Christmas Tree that will be in DC. I also didn’t realize how far the tree had to go. How did the walk with the dogs go?

Vicky- My body actually feels ok after running in the vibrams. When Kyle first ran in them he only did about a half mile and could hardly walk the next day. I really didn’t notice any major soreness that I didn’t have before I ran from working out at the gym. I’m going to try them again tomorrow and see how it feels upping the mileage to 1.5 to 2 miles. I’d really like to be running up at 3 miles in them soon since that’s really where I like to be. I don’t know if I’ll organize another race. My friend who was organizing with me enjoyed it I think and might be interested in doing another one….but I don’t know. It took a lot of energy on our part. Let me know how it goes exploring your options! I think that’s a good idea. Have a good run tomorrow. Oooh let me know you like harry potter! I am not a late night person or I would totally be there at midnight tonight! We probably won’t go until Saturday.

Mike- Do they do the Hot Chocolate 15k every year? It definitely sounds like a good one to check out. Kyle says hi! What’s your next half marathon? What’s Liz up to these days? And Robert? I’m glad your mom’s doing a little better.

Dave- that sounds like a delicious lunch! It makes my mouth water reading about it.

Margie- Thanks! I tried to e-mail you back, but I’m having trouble getting into msn at the moment. I’ll try again after I post. Were you trimming the bush to cut it back for winter? It seems late in the season to be trimming bushes? Did you get your pilates in?

AFM, today was a good day. It went pretty quickly and tomorrow is Friday. YAY! Like Vicky, I am also going to see Harry Potter some time this weekend. Today was a work out day, but I didn’t feel like going to the gym. So, I did a couple work outs on the Wii Active instead. The sensor is a bit off at times which makes it kind of hard, but man does it kick my butt! I don’t understand how I can be that tired after 40 minutes and sweating like crazy and it says I only burned like 100 calories… Tomorrow will be a run day. I’ve heard we’re supposed to get snow this weekend which I would rather do without. Then again, they’ve said before it was going to snow and it never did- those weather people never get it right. Hope everyone has a fabulous Friday!!

Regina: I'm just going through the website now. I'm afraid to order a pink shoe pouch in case what shoes I end up with aren't pink. Once that's figured out, I think the wrist one will be pink as well. The ankle one I'm thinking will be black or red just so it stands out and gets noticed by first responders. The shoe strip will be black. I've considered the yellow for the wrist band too so it's noticeable. A few of the testimonials said people didn't notice their bands at first. I love pink, but I love staying alive more and yellow is more noticeable. My dad's shoe id will be black I suspect because I don't know what colour his shoes are and I don't want to clash.

Thanks! I'm trying to stick to my workouts now that I don't have my trainer (but I'm able to renew and I haven't decided if I should yet, it's costly but works!)

Sounds like you had a great work out too! I've not got a Wii so I dunno what the programs are like but I've heard a lot of good things about them. I'm glad you're enjoying it so much!

Nooooo, don't say snow!!! If it hears you it will think you're calling for it and come to you (and by proxy me). I don't want to have to start digging my car out of the snow piles. :sad2:

Regina ~ YES, we DID get to the garden! It was a lot of fun. Of course I had to go nuts getting everything done to be off today (NOT HP-related, though I did decide to go and see it later this morning). But for my mental health, it was worth it.

I'm excited about staying on property. I'll probably still mostly be with my sister and running partner for the Half. And I think my running club teammates who are running the Goofy (I think they're all doing that) are at one of the AllStars (probably Sports), which will be GREAT! I'll probably need one of them to convince me I'm not crazy at least once. Hee!

Gotta love how your body just decides it's time to be up. I'd planned to sleep until about 8, but I was wide awake at 5:30, and my body showed no signs of wanting to go back to sleep. Blah. Of course the email I got from Expedia didn't help me settle. I'm going to Florence, Italy in February during our Winter Break on a package I got through Expedia (I've done packages with them before to different places). I get an email from them this morning saying "Your Alitalia flights have been cancelled." ***?????? I looked at my itinerary, and it still showed flights, so I called them, all kinds of confused. It really was the connecting flights in Rome where the number and time had changed slightly. So in reality it should have said "changed" and not "cancelled". Holy early morning panic attack Batman!!

The girlie doctor appointment went fine. This was a new to me doctor in the clinic I go to.She was really nice AND super excited about the weight I've lost and that I'm running. So that automatically bumps her up over the GP I saw.

Speaking of weight... PUT ME IN THE 30 POUND CLUB!!!! I'm now down a total of 31.4 pounds!!!!! WOOOO!!!!!!!

Today I'm mainly chilling. My brain just needed a break, so I got a sub and took a day. I've got to hit the post office and Trader Joe's...and I'm seeing Harry Potter at 11:20. But beyond that who knows. LOL. I do need to get in some X-T at some point today. Maybe I'll do arms and abs. We'll see.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning team!!!

Beth Congrats on joinning the 30 PD club:cheer2::cheer2:

Lynn Wow Christmas stuff already, can't believe it is so close. Also sad we won't be seeing you at Scott in January....think you guys should make a little trip in ;)

Vicky Mike and I are going to Harry tonight or tomorrow night but also picked the lastest show so we might have a few less kids, just hope we don't fall asleep:lmao: Still watching Air Canada for Feb but those prices just don't seem to be budging

Saylan We usually drive to Newmarket for the Silver City theatre, a bit more expensive but seats are much more comfortable.

Mike Sorry must have missed it while I was away, what happened to your mom, glad to hear however, her vision is improving.

Dave Sounds yummy, can't wait to see you and Sally again in January, I know we seen you guys in Sept but that was too short of a visit.

Margie Hey how are things going?

Since I have been a bad teammate and not around alot I am not sure who is all coming in for marathon weekend and who is not so can everyone help me out here. Who can I look forward to seeing in January?

Yes, the landscaping shrubs/bushes all need their major winter trims
and this year a few got buzz cuts. I have a couple more to do & lilac
ball tree that needs to be shaped.

No I did not do the Pilate’s – I should know better Thursday’s are
long days and I have nothing left when the boys are gone.

Saylan-we enjoy ‘Chatty’!
BTW-it is wonderful that your Grandmother was ‘Pleasantly Stunned’ by your
new, improved, toned body. Looking forward to seeing your picture! :woohoo:

Happy Shopping!
Sounds good- a Roasted Goat Cheese is amazing!
It's got a light layer of crushed almonds, came with the salsa
and some french baguette slices (like make your own bruschetta
but a million times better!)

Enjoy your movie night.

AFM:Normal Day-need to think of an outing for two little guys.
Maybe take a short trip to the park and then the library this morning.
