Hakuna Matata - Gobbling up the pavement and thankful we can!

Good Morning Team!

Vicky – The Capitol Christmas Tree was cut down near Jackson, WY this year and will be trucked to Washington DC. Have fun at Harry Potter – all the newspaper articles keep saying it is not a childrens movie, but that will not stop them from going!

Saylan – One of the most fun things about these computer threads is meeting folks in person at the races! That sounds like some movie theatre, I do not think I have seen any like that here – but then, we hardly ever go to the theatre, usually just wait until movies are out on DVD or on TV – the exception being the Disney movies.

Kim – We will miss you in Jan also – but as we are going to be at WDW for a week in Dec, then for a couple of days the beginning of Jan, then again before the Inaugural Dream Cruise the end of Jan, another trip in Jan. would be just TOO much!

Mike – Glad to hear that there is some improvement to your mothers vision. Tell me about too much going on for training!!!!!! Because of all our trips this season, I am really pressed for time to get all the Christmas stuff done!

Dave – Keep up the good training! Great lunch!

Margie – Yes, I got a walk in yesterday, weather was beautiful (for winter). Scott has been really busy – I think they are nearly settled in the new office, but he has spent the last few days in interviews for a new admin assistant – long days, he goes into to work about 6am and doesn’t get home until after 6pm. The new office is closer to home, but because he is now in the same building as all the administration, he has to dress up more – no more jeans and tee shirts! (I see he did get a few seconds to at least post here.)

Beth – Mental Health days are so good! Glad to hear your Dr’s appt went well! Have fun on your day off! Congrats on your weight loss!!!!

Regina – Sounds like you had a good workout – I sometimes do the Wii Active also, but have not done it lately. Hope you do not get the snow – ours is almost all gone.

AFM – Yesterday’s walk (3 miles) went really well, weather was warm (45 degrees) only slight wind and sunny. After the walk, I had to run into town again for a few errands, then got to spend the rest of the day working on my Christmas present projects. Today should be nice again, high 53 degrees, partly cloudy and not much wind.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Hi everyone! Just going to sneak in a quick post!

Lynn - Today was a PA day for some kids so I'm hoping they'll have gone to see the movie in the afternoon and evening. Sounds like you had some warmish weather! Hope that sticks around for as long as it can :) Too cool that you got see the tree before it was shipped off! And can I say that I'm envious of all the trips that you and Scott have planned!

Scott - Any luck finding an admin. assistant? Those sound like long days you're putting in. It will definitely be a well earned vacation next week from what it sounds like.

Margie - Where did you end up taking the little ones today? I was going to suggest a movie or movie rental and popcorn! How was your treadmill workout? The boxing was fun and next week, I get to hit the bag without anyone holding it. I will say it's hard to keep focused during a boxing workout - there's always a lot of stuff going on around me and I tend to get distracted easily (short attention span). I'm hoping this will help me to concentrate more and focus!

Kim - Meeee!! I'm coming! Well you already knew that because we have that Kona breakfast planned! Did you read the HP books? I had them on audiobook format but my sister had the paperback editions. They were a bit heavy to carry plus I'm no good at reading on the subway. I'm thinking that the airfare isn't coming to come down until the middle of December. Don't worry, I'm watching too!

Beth - Congrats on your weight loss! That is amazing!! Your trip to Italy sounds exciting and man would I have panicked as well if I got an email saying the flights had been cancelled. Are you going with a tour? Do you speak italian?

Regina - Aren't all workouts like that - you sweat up a storm only to see you've burned off a small amount of calories. I think the key is to build muscle, that will help increase your metabolism and burn more calories consistently. Oh and the trick to preventing winter weather is to go and buy some article of winter clothing - jacket, boots, sweaters, turtlenecks. Everytime I do this, the temperature warms up! I will definitely let you know how HP goes! And I'll keep my fingers crossed that the snow stays away for your LR.

Dave - Sounds like a yummy lunch! Is January going to be Sally's first half?

Mike - I'm glad to hear things are improving slowly with your mom! Where are you running your next half? I keep telling myself better undertrained and uninjured than overtrained and injured. We'll see how well that works out in January

Saylan - I'm glad you told me about them. They're called UltraAvx and they have them at Scarborough. I think the tickets were maybe $3 more than the regular theatre. But when we went to buy the tickets online, all the seats were taken anyway! So my friend and I decided to take a chance with the regular theatre and go and line up ahead of time. But we'll know to book waaay ahead next time! That's a fantastic compliment from your grandma! And don't worry about the scale - it's just a number! As long as your clothes are fitting better, that's what counts!

AFM - Dinner and a movie tonight (it's not a date) :) I am very glad this week is over and I can hardly believe that we're at the end of another month already. Has anyone started their Christmas shopping yet?

Have a great weekend everyone! :wave2:

Beth:Congrats! That's great news!

Margie: Thanks. I was a bad person today and fell a little off the plan.
A: Someone brought in Timbits. :sad2:
B: I barely got any cross-training in today. I tried to do legs but I couldn't decide on a set of exercises to do. One of the few I did, I feel like I pulled something in the back of my leg. My heart wasn't in it today for some reason.
C: We then hit a Quiznos. :sad2::sad2: I did the best I could there but still bad, very bad.

Lynn: Yeah, they don't have many theatres here like that either. And they only play movies they'll get a good 19+ turnout so some Disney movies don't make it in those. I suspect I'll be sitting with kids for Tangled.

How many team members are going for the Princess? I thought I only saw a couple on the front page.

Vicky: Yeah, good to know for the future, for sure!

Yeah, they're not where I want them to be yet, but I'm hoping if I can avoid slipping up like I did today I'll get there. Maybe I should continue with my trainer.

I've got my RoadID order ready to go, just waiting on seeing what colour my shoes will be if I exchange them so I get something that looks good.

I'm working on a little craft project for working out/the Princess. If it goes well, I'll be sure to share it y'all. :goodvibes

I've re-filled the fraking registration 5 times now for the Princess and the same question keeps stopping me up: What shirt size do you want? :sad2: I'm over analzying it but still, how sad is that, it's the only thing holding me back from registering.

As for running: I'm supposed to run tomorrow (if my left leg feels good, that's still the plan) but Galloway has me going down to 3 miles, and Higdon has me going up to 6. I ran 5 last Saturday... I'm stuck on what I should do.

Thanks guys! I'm really excited! And I was SOOOOOOO glad that my gyn was so supportive! She runs too, so she gets it. She did encourage me to up my little hand weights for my weight DVDs from 3 pounders, so today I got 5 pound weights. Wow...what a difference. My arms are not wanting to go even to my shoulders right now. I know it's good for me, but WOW.

Saylan ~ You're adorable. :P I got the RoadID tag - with orange silencer to match with my running club's colors (Dark Blue and Orange - and no, NOT because of the NYC Marathon currently being that color thanks to ING's sponsorship) - ordered it today (Thanks for the code Margie!)

Vicky ~ I've never been to Italy before, so I'm pumped! I took a year plus conversational my senior year in college and loved it. I've got a CD-ROM set that I'm using to brush up on the language (not Rosetta Stone...it's a bit rich for my blood). I'm going over on my own. I'll have two days when I'll be with others - one going to the Academia and the Uffuzi will be with a guided tour so I don't have to deal with lines for tickets and getting in and one going to Siena, the vineyards, and Pisa. Then I'll have a couple of days on my own and finish up my last night by doing a cooking course with a legit Tuscan chef in a "palace kitchen" (!!!!!)...and then finishing up the course eating my foodstuffs! SOOOOOOOO excited!!

Kim ~ I'm doing my first Half on Marathon weekend! Staying at Music. But I'm not sure how much free time I'll have between hanging out with my sister and her friends and also trying to hang some with running club teammates who are going Goofy. It's going to be wild!

Today was really nice! Aside from waking up at almost the same time as usual. Blech! Hit Trader Joe's for some things I forgot the other day - and only got 2 things that weren't on my list. That's GREAT for me! Then went to see Harry Potter. I'd figured they would end part 1 exactly where they did. Not saying more so as not to spoil! Then I decided I would get my "reward" for the Half...a ticket to The Lion King! I've seen it on tour from the very very nosebleed seats. So I went all out...and am front row! WOO!!!!!!!!!! I'll see it the Tuesday after Marathon Weekend! Hit the newly opened Disney Store in Times Square to see if they had any stuffed Rex toys back in stock. I wanted one as a running mascot to remind me to have "tiny little t-rex arms" (long story). They did - and the stuffeds were 2 for $25, so I got a Donald as well since I'm doing his race after all! Hit JackRabbit where I got my 5# weights...and a box of chocolate mint GU since that seems to be what my stomach likes best...if I'm not chomping Pretzel M&Ms on a long run. Other than Clif bars, my stomach isn't a fan or Clif stuff, so I'll be hauling GU with me. Came home and combined the short "beginner" strength workout on Bob Harper's Strength dvd - which is mostly arms - with yoga abs. So...OW! LOL. Now I'm trying to convince my stomach that it's NOT hungry having had dinner already. Hopefully water will help with that.

Tomorrow is my 7 mile run/walk. Eek!!!! First time I've gone that distance. Fingers crossed!!

~beth

You'll do great Beth! Nicely done on upping the weights. It's never easy to start but it feels soooooo gooad after (even if you're questioning your sanity before/during).

I've heard good things about the movie. We'll probably see it once the crowds die down since we're not die-hard fans of the series (though to see the last one, I made the boy sit through all the prior movies in one marathon :rotfl:).

That's a great prize for yourself. I'm sure the performance will be wonderful. I've been dying to see that show, so I'm super jealous!

I'm just checking in while I take a break. I just did a terrible job on my special project so I'm going to start over. :sad1: Hopefully this time it goes better.

Gooooo Elizabeth! :cheer2: You got this in the bag!

Thanks for the encouragement Saylan! Just finished a peanut butter and honey sandwich. I'm not hauling my blender to Disney with me, so I figure I'd better experiment with alternative pre-run fueling so I know what will work.

I haven't even started looking at fueling! I heard I should once I'm up to more than 5 miles a run which might be this week. I've also heard that it hould be only if you're running more than two hours. :confused3

I've heard GU is good so I might pick a pack up to try them.

Margie: I guess not really but overall it's disappointing to me. :sad2: I'm not supposed to eat bread, pasta, buns, wraps, etc., so the fact I ate almost entirely that yesterday...

On the plus side, I finished my two projects. The first was terrible and while I messed up the second one, I tore out all the stiches and redid it so it looks ok. Going to try again today, hopefully, and get it right.

Hi team!

Saylan- Good luck on your craft project. I was nervous about picking the shirt size when I signed up for the Wine and Dine too. I went with the size I normally wear and it seemed to work out for me. Oh, and I hate to break it to you, but it’s snowing here now!!

Beth- I’m glad it worked out for you to get to the garden and get yesterday off. Wow, Italy sounds like a great trip. Haha, I would have been a little stressed myself if I received an e-mail saying my flight has been cancelled…actually now that I think about it I’m pretty sure I’ve gotten one of those e-mails too, only they really had cancelled my return flight. I’m glad your girlie doc appt went well. A ticket to the Lion King sounds like a great reward!

Margie- Thanks! I hope you finish the trimming soon- I don’t think it would be fun to be out trimming it in the snow. Yeah 13+ hour days are really long days already. I can’t imagine trying to get a workout in after going for that long with the kids. I’m glad your 5.5 mile walk went well this morning!

Scott- Good luck with the interviews. I hope you get some good prospects!

Lynn- I haven’t done the Wii active in quite awhile because I find that the reaction is delayed sometimes and very sensitive, but I should probably still do it more because it is still a good work out even with the delay/sensitivity issue. So are you finished Christmas shopping now?

Vicky- Yes, it is so true…except when I’m on the TM. Then I really see the calories go. Well, even if it did say I only burned a few calories, my body definitely says it was using muscles it hasn’t in awhile! Hmm, that’s a good trick. I’ll have to give it a try and see if the weather holds off for me. I started Christmas shopping last month.

AFM, I took a day off from working out yesterday. I wanted to work out but by the time I got off work, Kyle picked me up and we went shopping for a dining table. My brother moved into his first apartment a few months ago so while we were at WDW, he came and picked up our dining table for his new apartment. We gave it to him because we wanted a new one anyway and he did not have one. We have been looking for a new one for quite awhile but had only found 1 we really liked. But, as I realized earlier this week, Thanksgiving is next Thursday which means if I planned to cook I needed to have a dining table before then. We ended up buying the one we had picked out last month and getting a separate set of chairs to go with it. It will be delivered on Tuesday! We went to 5 Guys Burger and Fries for dinner. LOVE that place! So by the time we got home it was already 9:00pm. I guess today’s run will be at the gym since I woke up an hour ago and it is snowing.

Regina: Thanks! I'm hoping it goes better today than yesterday.

Yeah I think I'm going to go with my size. I just can't justify ordering a large for myself. None of my workout clothes needed to be that size so I don't know why a tech tee would need to be either. But now I'm scared that of registering and not being able to do it... :sad2: I need to work on the Hakuna Matata life-style I think. :rolleyes1

I don't think we have snow yet but my run will be at the gym too. Cold is horrible!

Glad you got a dining table! Sounds like everything worked out in the end when it came to picking one out. I'd have just made everyone eat on their laps. :rotfl:

Survived my 7 miles!!!!!! Woohoo!!! It took an hour and 30 minutes - which ends up being a 12:50 minute mile pace. So I feel pretty good about that. It was at a 3:2 interval, and my plan calls for me to do the half at a 4:1 interval, which should help the pace a good bit. I may experiment with it and see how it goes at that interval for my 5-mile turkey trot on Thursday. Just to see. I'm supposed to be doing 48 minutes at a 3:1...which actually might put me close to the 5 miles based on my 3:1 training this past week. So we'll see. It'll be hard to change the interval setting on my garmin WHILE I'm running, so I'll need to pick one beforehand. We'll see what happens.

And now...I'm going to put some deep conditioner on my hair, play catch-up with the dvr, and then get a nice hot shower!

Hope all are well!!

~beth

Hello everyone! Sorry this is a little later than I wanted it! But busy day with seeing Harry Potter, shopping, AND cleaning! Better late than never right!

I have WAY so much to get caught up on! Ya miss 2 days and get all out of the loop here! I'll do more reading tonight! OH yeah, getting ready for hosting the UFC fight for all of our friends! Should be fun!

Had a great walk with Margie today!! We took it nice and slow and didn't push too hard which was great! I've been having a little left hip pain and didn't want to aggravate it! Can't figure out if it is from walking or from my encounter with the stairs!

We did some exploring of new walking areas today and it was fun!! I gotta remember to mix it up more! Our 5.5 miles went by SO FAST!

Time 1hour 28 min
Distance 5.5 miles.
Best mile 15:27min!

Off to get the house (actually my parents house because we don't have a tv subscription) ready for the BIG FIGHT tonight! Talk to ya all later!

PS-Margie, Ellen's birthday is tomorrow the 21st!

Beth: Nicely done on the run! :cool1: Sounds like you're fuel source did well. It probably wouldn't hurt to try the new intervals, even just to see if you like it or not.

Nikki: Hope you enjoyed the movie! Sorry to hear about the hip pain. Sounds like you were in the right to take it easy and not push it too hard. I hope it goes away soon.

Today was a little better on the workout-wagon but very busy. Around noon, a charity auction I was bidding in ended. I only won one auction but it's ok, I bumped a lot of stuff up and it was a good cause (animal rescue support). So we drove out to pick up my prize, did some errands, and went to the shoe store. It turns out I have the highest 'stability' shoe there is without going into motion control (which they shy away from selling unless the customer is directed to such a shoe by a physio, which I wasn't).

The guy seemed annoyed that my clinic sent me there implying that the sales associates would know more about shoes for me than the clinic people. :confused3 Turns out my shoes went down 50$ since I bought them though and they didn't offer the difference so my b/f suggested we return them (they're still in the return policy time frame) and re-buy them. Seems sketchy to do that but it does irk me that I paid 200$ for shoes that are now 149$.

After we got home (and I bought some GU chomps to try), I went and did my cross-training abs at the gym and then did my long run. I decided to see how I felt at 3 miles before trying for 6 and in the end I did the full 6 with a pace of just under 12 min/mile (11:51). I didn't hit the wall but I'm definitely dehydrated because I was dumb and didn't check my water bottle before starting to run. Turns out it was only 1/4-1/2 full. :sad2: That was a long run. I chose not to try the chomps because I wouldn't be very hydrated. I had a bit of pain in my right hip flexor though about half way through that persisted to the end so I rolled out extra long on that side to get the kinks out.

Just got home to find out my b/f made me a fruity smoothie with my protein powder in it so I better go get it before he decides to drink it all.

And my workout project (the one I messed up horribly) turned out a lot better than I thought. Works really well. :thumbsup2

Been busy work and life and getting ready for space coast.

Happy Thanksgiving!

May the Blessings of Thanksgiving abide within you!
Safe Travels to all those traveling this week…

Margie: lol I was hoping to wait till one turned out ok. I got a sewing machine for my birthday so I got it into my head on Friday that I could make some awesome headbands (particularly for working out to keep bangs and sweat out of my eyes while running). I found two styles I've been trying. They're not perfect but turning out ok. I plan to make some 'Princess' ones before the race.

Happy Thanksigiving Prep Week Teammates!

Hi team!!

I had a good rest day today. Church, wandering around Manhattan for a little while, seeing a play (which, ok, was pretty boring), then getting my bib and stuff for the Turkey Trot, Subway and home.

Church was good - our intern we've had from England preached today, which...heck who cares what he said...that ACCENT!!!!! OMG!!!! LOL. Afterwards, several people asked me about how much weight I've lost and said how good I looked. It was definitely a good ego boost!

My wandering actually had a purpose - I wanted to print off a coupon for Barnes and Noble at the library. Used to be you got like a dollar credit for print-offs, but now it's 15 cents per page. Not a big deal. Except you have to get a "copy card" and the minimum amount is $1.00. Um...no. When I only needed the page today because I was stupid and left it at home. I love the library, but I'm not giving them 85 cents for who knows how long. So that was a fail.

Went to see "Life in the Theatre", which I had high hopes for. I usually really like David Mamet's stuff (some language aside...though he rarely uses it gratuitously), and didn't think he could ever write anything boring. I was wrong. I about fell asleep so many times it wasn't funny. Luckily I was in the back.

I headed across and up to the Upper East Side to get my number and "stuff" for the Turkey Trot. Instead of a t-shirt, we got arm warmers! They're cute! Also some Team in Training propaganda. Don't get me wrong...they do good stuff. And I would really consider running with them...but I like being solo on my runs, and I like wearing my running club's team gear in races. Not sure I'm ready to "join the cult" so to speak. I may go to an information session and at least see what the options are. Maybe I can skip a lot of the group-think stuff. Anyone have any experience with them and how easy or hard it is to not go with the herd mentality?

Now I'm just chilling and watching tv...waiting for The Amazing Race (Did you know Disney has a part in the production of that show? They do. My sister and I wanted to try out before, but since she works for Disney we couldn't. :( Oh well.)

Hope everyone's doing well!

~beth
