Hakuna Matata - Dashing Through December

Good lord Lynn and I thought i was cold running in 28 degree weather this morning! I ran my five this morning but it looks like rain tomorrow :sad2: so may be a dreaded dm day. YUK!

Rick - thanks for the kind words - I really am being a baby about running this 20 mile LR. I'm even going even back and forth about not running it at all but know I really need to to make sure I make it through the marathon. I'm really just done with it all. nad good luck on your virtual half - that is a really good cause!

:bday:

:cake: Happy birthday Emily!! :cake:

I hope you're having an awesome birthday!

Well, the 'after work run' didn't happen yesterday. I left work too late and ran out of time. I must have been tired cuz I fell asleep on the couch after dinner.

So this morning, I went out for a solid 6-miler in the rain. At least the temp was only 42F. It was supposed to be this big snowstorm but so far all it is doing is raining. Not that I am complaining! Later tonight the temps drop into the teens so my Friday morning run will be in 13F temp with a windchill of 2F. I might try an outdoor run (or wimp out and head for the gym and the TM).

Good Morning Team!

Emily - Happy Belated Birthday! Hope it was a good one!

Kimberly - When I lived in Jackson (as in Jackson Hole, WY), I was used to the colder temps, but we did not have much wind there. Here in Cheyenne, the temps are generally much warmer, but we do have the wind to contend with. Yesterday got up to 25F and today should make it up to 30F, it will be in the 40’s over the weekend. Then back to teens for Christmas day. Good luck on the treadmill! I am beginning to feel the same about the spin bike, it is better than a treadmill, but not by much.

Rick - Good luck with your workout also!

AFM - It had been really windy yesterday, blowing snow to whiteout conditions, but it calmed a bit in the afternoon, so the dogs got a walk, then I spent an hour shoveling snow, after that, I did not feel like the spin bike, so I called that my exercise. Today should be a bit nicer, still too much snow and ice on roads to take bike out, so again, it will be the spin bike.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Snow shoveling for an hour is absolutely exercise! That is some serious cross training. ;)

Well, got up at 5 am and it was pouring - looked at the pouring rain. Looked at the DM. Looked at the pouring rain. Looked at the DM. the pouring rain won out. ran 5.13 miles in it and was glad I did - I just hate the DM THAT MUCH!!! so two days of rest and hopeful decent enough weather monday to pound out that dreaded 20 miles so I can enjoy my christmas and day after.

everyone have a great weekend, wonderful holiday, your LR's and SR's as you do them and know I'm thinking of y'all.

we're getting there folks - we're getting there!

That is just so awesome! I swear I could imagine you doing the 'head swivel' thing! Lol

Glad you went out and did it! You have motivated me to get my own 5 miles done outside today -- it's not raining, just a 6F windchill (very windy here) I am not looking forward to.

Good Morning Team!

Kimberly - Hope you get good weather for your long run!

Rick - how you survived the windchill on your run!

AFM - It has been decent here, have been out on cruiser bike (the heavy one with no gears) to the mail box, been going around the block instead of short distance (1.25 miles vs .9 miles) for mail and paper (2 trips a day), and the dogs have been getting their walk. Forecast calls for white Christmas, with snow starting Monday night into Tuesday morning. Most of the 10 inches we had are now gone, just a few drifts and sloppy roads to show for it.

Well, I am happy to report that I finished my 20-miler this morning!! It was a very cold and windy morning, but we pushed through. It was actually a 10-mile Loop that I ran twice. Once with Mike, and the second by myself. At mile 9, I slipped on the ice and fell. My right ankle hurt for the rest of the run, and I am sure it will require some TLC for the next few days. But other than that, no harm no foul.

Now, I can enjoy the Taper Time!! Getting ready to head out with the kids to get some last minute Christmas shopping done. I am wearing my WISH Green recovery socks!!

Then tomorrow, I will get a massage in the morning to help accelerate my recovery. WooHoo! :)

Hi everyone,

Hope everyone had a good Christmas! Have you all been making New Years Resolutions?

Very cold Christmas Day here, high was about 12F, we went for dog walk after eating our early dinner and the temp had already fallen to 8F with wind chill of
-5F. Brrrrrr! Heading out early to see what Day After Christmas Deals I can get.

Great question, Lynn.
No, not yet but improving my full and half marathon times will certainly be there...but your post made me think of looking back at the resolutions and goals I made for 2012. Given that most New Years goals and resolutions typically fail, I actually don't think I did that bad at all:

1. Finish first marathon under 4 hours. Well official time was a few seconds over, but Garmin says I was sub 4. I will call it a win

2. Half marathon under 1:50. Done, in August

3. 100 consecutive pushups: forgot about that one. Fail!

4. Get under 188 lbs and no beer or bad food until I get there. Done in March, so it is a win...although I drifted back above that mark lately with my injury layoff + evil holiday food

5. Talk to to my kids more in French. I tried, but after them spending all day in learning french in school, I was met with a lot of resistance...their marks were good, so wasn't worth the fight!

Any one else like to share how they did in 2012 or what their 2013 resolutions and/or fitness goals are?

We had 7.5 inches of snow here in my part of Indianapolis. We also got today off of work, so it turned into a 5 day weekend! Then it's work 2 days, off 4 days, work 3 days, off 2 days, work 2 days and then I'm headed down to Disney World on the morning of the 9th!!

I've been grabbing items and placing them into piles already. I have to hit my local running shop this weekend to pick up some fuel packs (lesson learned from the expo this year is to not count on them having the flavors you like!)

After trying my 2 regular Brooks shoes the past 2 runs, it appears that the cushioning in the Adrenaline GTS's are in worse shape than my Trance, so I'll be running the 1/2 in my Brooks Trance shoes. I'll be in my Saucony Kinvara 3's for the 5k, as that's the max distance I've run in them so far without any issues.

I thought the package for my sunglasses had a belt loop hole, but they do not. So now I'm trying to figure out what to do with them while it's dark when we start, as they do not fit into my running belt pouch. I'll check for something at the running shop when I'm there this weekend.

OH! I also just remembered that I have no ear buds... I'll pick up a set of what I had before just to get me through the half (I see they're on sale for $10 at Walmart). I need to listen to the Runkeeper lady voice-in-my-ear let me know how badly I'm messing up my pace :) (I only ever run with one ear bud in, so I can hear things going on around me). I won't have Rick with me this half to keep offering up the vocal encouragement, so I'll get by, by getting angry at an app.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those recently injured and with family issues!

Hard to believe that I will be in WDW two weeks from today! Getting excited!

I got brave and decided to do a 20 miler today. Due to my knee issue, I have only had one other run of more than 10 miles since my marathon in October…and that was a 14 miler mid-November. It was a struggle and I definitely feel my fitness level has decreased since October due to the injury layoff. The last 5 miles were pretty tough and I ended up walking quite a bit. But the good news is I got through it and my knee did not act up at all. And despite me being much slower than just a few months ago, it was a great boost of confidence to find out that I can get through 20 miles still well ahead of the sweepers pace.

Hope everyone has a great rest of week

Congrats Luzzbightyear on your 20! Hope all had a great Christmas. Well, it was like God was just waiting for me to finish my LR of 20 bc we are getting hit with a huge storm that's expected to dump about 12 inches of snow and the freezing rain. Supposed to go back to work today but expecting DS's school to be closed so
Prob stuck home and will have to work Saturday instead. :(. Plan to run 5k on DM this morning and hopefully 5 outside tomorrow and Monday. Can't believe less than two weeks until heading to disney yeah! Happy running to all and PD to those who need it!

Good Morning Team!

Kimberly - Glad you got your 20 miler in.

Kipp - Sounds like you are nearly ready for Marathon weekend.

Robbie - Great job with last years resolutions! Good news with the knee at long distance.

AFM - Spend most of the day yesterday running from store to store. No crowds, I guess day after Christmas shopping is not that big here this year. I never did find any interesting strings of lights (something other than just lights - like snowmen or something). I did find some new decorations and next years Christmas cards. I did a bit of snow shoveling, but snow was very light and fluffy, and it only took about 5 min to clear off front walk. There were no drifts to knock down in the driveway. Today I will have to make up for yesterdays lack of exercise.
