Hakuna Matata - Dashing Through December

Hey Team:flower3:

I made 8 miles this morning. I finished strong but was sore by the time I drove home but some ice food and a nap fixed that. It's going to be close getting to where I can finish the marathon in January but it's looking more promising every week. Unfortunately only 5 weeks to go and the last is taper week. I could really use an additional month to prepare.

I've been keeping up with most of the Disney happenings on facebook.

I know Rick, Vicky and Kimmer are ready to rumble in January.

Just a quick post to make sure everyone knows I'm still alive. :)

Back from Disney World and the Thanksgiving Florida vacation. I wound up gaining 7 lbs while down there! Whoops! That's what I get for cleaning my plate at 50's Prime Time! (I'm sure the S'mores didn't help either :) )

I got a really nice run in the Saturday after Thanksgiving along the inter-coastal in Lake Worth/West Palm Beach area. A lady from New York jogged with me for a little bit and told me about her running experience in the big city and she thought it was cool that I was going to do the Half in January. I was wearing my Indianapolis Monumental Half tech shirt on that run and she commented on it. By that time, her pace was much too quick for me and we parted company while I took a breather walk for a couple of minutes.

We will have to see if I have any strength left for push-ups. :) And definitely not with Beki sitting on me! LOL

Oh who are you kidding. You know you will be able to do them.

You can totally do it Dave!! I have every confidence in you!! :grouphug:

Hi team!

Beth - :welcome: I'll get your races added to the calendar shortly! How come you don't get activity points for the yoga workout? I keep meaning to try yoga but can't seem to find the time for it.

Kipp - Welcome back to the cold weather! Were all the Christmas decorations up when you were at WDW? I thought I read somewhere that you can retain water when you fly. I'm sure the 7lbs will come right off once you're back into the groove of training.

Dave - Good job on the 8 miler! I'd love another month to prep as well but I'm looking forward to seeing everyone ... and to getting the rest of the LRs out of the way! I'm definitely ready to go and I think the key is to stay injury free right now.

Robbie - More pixiedust: heading your way. I'm glad the x-ray came back negative. Fingers crossed that you get in quickly for a bone scan. Is there any way your doctor can give you priority because of Goofy? I would be calling back every day to see if there are appointment openings or cancellations.

AFM - I did a four miler yesterday. I wanted to try and run with a lower heart rate but I was late for an appointment at the Apple store so I decided to go a bit faster. I took my Mac in and they figured out the hard drive was dying so they're going to replace it. Luckily I still had a month of Apple Care left so the repairs are free.

Tonight I've got another 4 miler scheduled and then I'm meeting a friend to help him pick out a couch and to go for dinner afterward.

Hope everyone is doing well with their training :)

Hey all!

great news Robbie - now hear's hoping you get other good news with the bone scan.

sounds like a great trip Kipp!

getting really excited to meet everyone in the flesh!

question - is anyone interested in doing photopass with me? a family we are going with (and parents are running the 1/2) and we were interested in doing one together and were wondering if anyone here was interested in sharing the cost to do one? let me know!

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Friday! Anyone have plans for the weekend? I have my LR on Saturday, a 9 miler on Sunday then brunch with friends on Sunday. I'm also going to pick up my Mac tonight. I was surprised it was ready so early - that's service for ya!

Just curious if anyone else uses DailyMile.com - I know Rick, Elizabeth, Robbie, Beth, Eva and a few others are on it. Anyone else?

I've done one before. How much is it to split? :goodvibes

This was a busy week! Ran on Tues, Wed, Thurs, and today. I am glad to have my runs in the bag.

Today's 16-miler was pretty good. This weekend is going to be busy so I decided to do my Long Run today instead. 30 miles for the week (it was supposed to be a cutback week but I guess next week will have to be the cutback week).

I hope everyone has an awesome weekend and decent Long Runs! :)

Hey team just popping in to say hi, heading out to work early weather is horrible so not sure what the roads are going to be like.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend!! :)

Between working at the store, getting in an 18-miler, and volunteering at the fund raiser for my church's soup kitchen, I had a busy weekend for sure!

The run went well - dogs had it in for me though. One loose one almost tripped me coming down a hill in Central Park. It was before 9, so technically he didn't HAVE to be leashed, but the owner said as she halfheartedly apologized "He just loves trying to go with runners." In that case, I think she might want to think about leashing him near the main road of the park. Because if I'd tripped, I likely would have landed ON the dog, and he wasn't huge. :/ Then when I'd moved to along the Hudson because I was bored with loops (and I'd only gotten 1.75 loops done...I can't imagine when the marathon used to be run there!!), I was almost tripped by TWO dogs on leashes because their handler was too busy talking on her phone to notice where they were dragging her. (And then there was the little dog in Starbucks (I don't think the workers saw her) whose leash I almost tripped over when I turned with drink in hand to leave and the little frou-frou was jumping up on someone making the leash spread across the path. Oy! I love dogs, but that was ridiculous!!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Happy Monday! Well I had a post ready to go and then my computer crashed so I lost it. Boo! :(

Beth & Rick - WTG on your LRs this weekend! How are you feeling about the January races?

Kim & Robbie - pixiedust: Sending lots of good thoughts your way for a speedy recovery!

Kimberly - Hope you had a fun girls' weekend in Boston! Can't wait to hear about it.

Lynn - Hope you and Scott are having a blast at WDW!

Elizabeth - :wave2:

AFM - I did an 18 and a 9.5 miler on the weekend. The 18 miler was pretty good but I had some weird pain on the top of my foot during the 9.5 miler. I'm going to have my chiro look at it tonight and hopefully it's nothing big. Luckily it's a cutback week for me so fewer miles will give me more rest time :)

Hey Vicky!! :wizard: for the foot! Hopefully your chiro will have good news for you!!

I'm feeling pretty good - I did struggle a little during this run (I think I mainly hadn't fueled properly before), but I finished it. And looking at my first two marathons (which were pretty ugly for different reasons but mainly battles just to finish) and my training for those, the 18-milers were dream runs. So I'm hoping the opposite is true and a not fantastic 18 will yield a nice marathon experience. :)

Had a GREAT time in Boston - including a drag show (photos up on FB) that would make anyone blush, wonderful dinners, great walking in Quincy Market, Charles Street and more and great time with great friends. Definitely helped me a lot - and honestly, not a bit of running which is fine with me! Also had a fun - disney related part. One of my friends has a nephew with cancer - he gave my friend his Walter doll from the newest muppet movie to have him take pix all over Boston - Walter got a ride in a horse and carriage, met a firefighter and sat in a firetruck, sat in a wreath in front of the Massachusetts Capital and more! I've decided I totally need a Walter!

then got home late sunday night and then up early monday for an 8 hour round trip business trip yesterday when I was already exhausted! and four hours driving in POURING rain. yuk!

so back to the running this morning - 5.13 miles - felt good, which I'll continue the next few days - my next long run isn't until 12/22 when I'll run 20.

okay, I'm ready to get going on this marathon thing!

hope everyone else had a great weekend!

Sounds like a great time Kimberly!

I had a registration accident (actually a double) and registered for the Hartford Half and the Newport Half on back to back weekends in October (10/12 and 10/20 respectively). I'm excited...new places to see! I'm thinking I may let Mickey be my yearly full and do halfs at other times. We'll see.

Good Morning Team!

We are back from vacation, now trying to catch up on social networking sites and then all the Christmas stuff - cards, presents, etc.

Vicky - We were going to all 5 parks next year, until our China plans changed, we are doing AbD to China, we were going to add on a side trip to Tokyo, the China trip ends in Hong Kong, and we are headed to London in Jan, and a day trip to Paris would be easy, but instead of Tokyo, we added on a Viking River Cruise in China, so no 5 parks in in 1 year. I get pain on the top of 1 foot is I lace my shoes too tight (on that foot they have to be VERY loose).

Elizabeth -

Dave - Good luck on the training!

Kim - Hi!

Kimberly - Glad you had fun in Boston!

Kipp - Good to see you posting again!

Rick - Sounds like your training is going well!

Robbie - More PD, hope you bet the bone scan soon!

Beth - Welcome back!

AFM - Had a great trip, lots of walking! Lots of nice shows! Now to get back into a good routine!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Happy Wednesday everyone! It's a cutback week for me so I'm enjoying the reduced mileage.

Lynn - I loosened the laces but it still bothered me. I'm going to keep them very loose from now on though. Bummer on change in plans but the cruise sounds like a lot of fun! Tokyo is on my to visit list :)

Beth - The back to back halves sound like fun! Where is the Newport Half? The chiro couldn't find anything wrong with my foot. Figures. Anytime I go to see him, any pain that I have magically disappears once I step into his office and then returns when I go back home.

Kimberly - Glad the Boston trip was a lot of fun! Sounds like the weekend of Dec 22-23 is going to be a 20 miler for a lot of us. I think we should get medals for doing such long distances that day.

Kim/Robbie - pixiedust:

AFM - I went to my chiro on Monday to do a workout and have my foot looked at. He couldn't find anything wrong and we even tried to recreate the pain but couldn't. I'm hoping that's a good thing. He made the same suggestion as Lynn - keep my shoelaces loose. He thought it might have been because I did half of my 18 miler on a downhill route as that puts more pressure on the balls on your feet and your knees.

I went for a short run yesterday just to test things out. I did a 3 miler and it was pain free. I went slow the first mile and nothing happened so I sped up somewhat. It was a bit of a tough run because I had a headache. I would have liked to take a Tylenol but wanted to see if there was anything wrong with my foot. I did a sprint toward the end of my route and there wasn't any pain. I'm thinking it's either my new shoes or the route I ran. I'm hoping to go out tonight for a 4 miler.

Hope everyone's training is going well! Make sure you're getting enough rest. Don't push for the milage too much at this point - it's important to stay injury-free for January. Cross train if you have aches and pains that prevent you from running and make sure to see a doctor, physio etc. if you feel you have something serious.

Hi, everyone,

Wow, the last two weeks have been crazy. I'm caught up with life ;) so I have exactly 5 minutes to post before getting ready for the day. Excited to see all the training posts and for those with injuries I'm hoping recovery is quick.

I can't tell you all how ready I am for January! :cool1:

Hi Team, it's looking better for me being able to actually finish the marathon. I did a good 9.5 yesterday and wasn't hurting after or today. I'm much more optimistic now.

What group activities to we have planned?
