Hakuna Matata - August Days and Nights!!

Lynn, why don't we wait till ToT and we will be together and we can pick one or three as recomendations. Then we can find a pic on line and get the rest of the teams approval. You can order them from Disney. There will be several of the team there.

Scott sounds like me spoiling the dog rotten. Erica makes the lab do something to earn a treat and I just give it one. Or I share popcorn and stuff with her.

Eva, yes we were a tad rowdy this morning. We will try to behave.:rolleyes1

Sorry about all you guys who are getting rain, we finally stopped getting it every day. There for a while we were considering an ark.

Hi everyone,

I didn't have much time to post, today. I went to the doctor with my shoulder, and it is definitely rotator cuff injury and not just impingement syndrome. So, I am having an MRI on Friday to determine if there is a tear that requires repair or if the bone needs to be shaved or both. I have decided that no matter what, this is good news! :upsidedow

I am willing to let everyone at ToT decide which pin we get! We will get them sooner, that way!!! :rotfl:

Denise- That's so kewl about your fella, the DIS version of the Village People was needing the cowboy!!! :lmao:

Wellesleyprincess - Yes, the raccoon did look lke a little bear. I actually thought to myself, "Oh my gosh, that's either a little bear or a rabid raccoon and either way, I am in trouble......" Afterall when you see a little bear, there's a big one close by!!! :rotfl:

I'm outta here! See y'all later!

Hi Team!

Sounds like you guys are getting some great Training walks/runs and crossing training in.

Connie, The MRI is Good News at least you are finding out what the problem is!

Did you like the gym experience Erica?

Left arch still not so good...not real painful unless I am going down hill. I did do an easy 4.1 miles tonight then came home and iced.

:hippie: both little guys have had a cold, runny noses, grouchy and I live for their nap times :cool1:

I did have an experience with a raccoon a couple of weeks ago - he was moving very slow & wobbly on the trail ahead of me. I was concerned he could be sick. I picked up two rocks and started hitting them together and he scurried of the path.

I can't remember is I posted this or not before but speaking of critters... when Mark and I go out in the a.m. it's now dark so we usually walk in the middle of the street and because of the way our streets are made to drain off unless your directly on the yellow line your gait is off just a bit so that's why my hip was acting up. I try to stay on the sidewalks but that's when we run into PePe Le Pew.

Mostly it's uneventful but last week - we were 3/4 of the way done, it's light out and we're at a part of the walk that is all houses and not much grass/trees. Thankfully we're still in the middle of the street since part of that area is where dogs use as potty time so to avoid land mines we stay in the middle. Out from the left comes Mr. PePe scampering across the street. Cute as a button. We did pause a bit to let him go. Hey - someone that smells that back can certainly have the right of way!

Well off to dress and start my day. Work has been crazy and tonight we have to rush from work, change, and probably walk to the race area since there will be 5000 of us on the main city street and a minor league ball game at the same time - yikes that was poor planning. Wearing my WISH shirt and hat so if ACTIVE does get a picture, I'll post.

Have a good one.

Lynn does a great job keep the home fire burning,

Sounds like all are busy,

DL 1/2 and TOT are soon, KEWL.

Want to get in a 10 mile plus this weekend.

Travel home today so no work out, hope to be home by 8:00 tonight

Connie hope all goes well.

Eva , take care of that knee,

Be strong and smart in your training,

Later Kids.

I'm still getting over my stomach flu, food poisoning or whatever it was. I'm trying to go easy on the food today because I have a birthday dinner to go tonight and it's at one of my favourite restaurants. Actually I'm just hoping I'm well enough to run on Saturday :rotfl:

Eva - How's your knee?

Denise - Skunks are cute! I think they look so funny when they're walking or running.

Margie - There seems to be a cold that's going around here as well. I think it's the weather we've been having. It almost feels like we went from really hot weather to cool fall weather. Hope your arches are feeling better today!

Connie - I think the MRI is good news too! I do hope it isn't anything too serious! Keep us posted :)

Hi Team!

Michigan has cooled a bit - sunny, high 70's-mid 80's with lower humidity. :goodvibes

Hagen and I did a short 2.21 walk, he went to sleep, I hurried home, but he is fighting it and not wanting to go back to sleep. He is talking, singing, anything to make noise!

Thanks, Vicky - my foot is a little better. I think it is the tendon (?) It is still swollen with the hard bump in the center of it. I ice it a lot - I have ice on it now. I did a slower 4.1 miles with a friend last night, gym this morning, bike, and the 2.21 miles with Hagen. Going down hill is the worse.

Eager to read your race report, Denise!

Safe Travels, Scott!

:hippie: Must be off on a long walk :thumbsup2

Vicky, stomach bugs are aweful. In my opinion stomach issues set me back as far as injuries. Glad that your starting to feel better.

Margie, I'm so impressed by your level of training even while recovering.

As for me, I got in 4 miles in 34 minutes (8:30 pace) this morning. It wasn't too hot, but that last mile was starting to get bad.
Tonight I'm going over to a friends to watch the Olympics and chill out.

Best,
Jennifer

Hi Homies:hug:

Ok down to business: I did a 4 mile walk. First mile to warm up 14:00 and then 3 miles on the hills in 35:22. I did some pool running and pool exercises after that. Good workout and felt very strong today.

I didn't know if you were aware, but on Saturday, August 16 @ 9:00 a.m., the Olympics will host the Men's final 20k Race Walk. On Thursday, August 21 @ 9:00 a.m. the women are scheduled for the 20k race walk. On Friday, August 22 @ 7:30 a.m. the men have their final 50k race walk.

Margie, have someone look at your foot. It might be treatable by yourself but if there is a Phy Therapist at your gym have it looked at. Yes you are doing well dispite your LTO issues.

Jennifer you are fast princess.

Denise, leave the little animals alone. Hope Miranda is doing better.

Connie hope you feel better soon, that shot in the shoulder joint hurts just thinking about it.

Oh and Connie I switched to the Kashi Go Lean cereal. My body is about to be used to the extra fiber.:upsidedow

Scott get hope to your pretty princess safe, you two are such a cool couple.

Our Canadian buds are still helping us out with the cooler air but we are forcast to be back in the heat again next week.

Walk/run/love/rest strong y'all.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Good Afternoon Team!

Dave - sounds good on the pins, Vicki, is that OK with you? Once we decide on a pin, I will pick one up for you and ship it to you. Any other Canadians want to be included?

Connie - Scott has had rotator cuff surgery, so if it comes to that, he can give you some ideas of how to stay comfortable.

We are supposed to be getting some of the cooler Canadian air starting today and thru the weekend. They were talking about highs in the 60's! That is very comfortable walking weather - but rain will also be accompaning that cool air - so we will have to dodge rain showers!

Speaking of critters - we saw the antelope herd this morning - the dogs went crazy again! Then they tried to chase a rabbit - don't they remember they are on leashes??? They nearly pulled me off the road as they caught me by surprise - usually I see the rabbits before they do, so I can be prepared for them to pull at the leashes.

We did get in our 10 miler - 11.36 miles to be exact. My knees did hold up pretty well, but my hip started to really hurt about mile 10. I have ice on it now. Guess I have to do more of those lunges! It did hurt even more when I had to get off the road to the sloped sides when cars were coming - but most of the time, I could walk on the flat portion of the roads. I wasn't very fast, after a first very slow mile, I did stay ahead of the sweepers - but just barely! But, I do feel like I could have walked another 2 miles, if not very quickly - so I now feel prepared for the 1/2 marathon in 2 weeks. I am just finishing off my breakfast - which I guess is really lunch - then time to clean house. I did get the lawn mowed yesterday, before the rain starts today.

Have a great day!

Hi everyone.

We did the race 5K tonight. It was HOT. Well at least for me and Hope. I'm used to training at 5am in the dark. Mark did not wear his chaps and six shooters. I did wear my wish shirt and hat so you could pick me out in the crowd of 5000+ I think my time was ok. But it was a hard fought battle and it was only a 5k. Gees I hope it's not that hot this year at WDW for the 1/2. I don't remember it being that bad of course we did start in the dark there too.

Well I'll post pictures tomorrow. One of our employees who didn't do the race came down to take pictures and I know she got one of Mark and I on the last hill. He was encouraging me on but my lungs were struggling. They did announce my name as I crossed the finish line so I know my champion chip from disney still works!

I wanted to be under 40 min and I'm pretty sure I did that - more tomorrow.

**Adding in the morning--Yes, I did the under 40 min and I'm happy with that.

The heat sucked and working on my feet for nine hours did me in. But I still did it in under 45 minutes, which makes me happy after the struggles with my sciatic.

I *heart* the sprinkler people though.

Denise and Hope, you gals rock!:cool1:

When you pretty princesses are at Disney I can help you polish your technique if you want. Walking fast is all about economy of motion and turning your energy output into forward motion.

I'm off to the gym, the battle of the pudge continues. I think I'm winning but the pudge that's left is dug in and battle hardened so it's ready to put up a fight.

Have a wonderfull morning y'all.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Dave - I'm looking for ward to the upcoming walking and running in the olympics. I love to see the pros at work!

Margie - It's cooling off here in Ohio as well. I used to LOVE the Michigan fall. Do you ever go to Cadillac to see the showing of the colors? Sooo pretty! Is your arch doing better?

Vicky - The knee is fine untill I get 5 miles plus into a long run. I'm going to make sure I switch up the side of the road I run on this week and see if that helps. Hope you feel better..I hate stomach issues.

Denise - I had two skunk encounters this week. One was during my LR on Monday. Same thing...he crosed the road in front of me. Big guy too..but soo cute! The second was last night. We were on our way to my parents house for a visit and I saw a baby skunk off at the side of the road in the gravel. I begged Jordan to stop the car so I could scoot him out of the road and he wouldn't because he thought the mom was close and I'd get sprayed if I messed with the baby. He was probably right, but that little guy was so cute I couldn't stand the thought of him being smushed. I just hope he got away. :sad1: Anyhow...great news on your race! Under 40!! YAY!

I'm going to buy a pair of Mizuno Alchemy's tonight. They aren't racing flats or speed trainers, but they are lighter weight and I'm hoping to wear them for my 1/2 coming up in a couple of weeks.

Hope the rest of you are enjoying the cooler days and staying hydrated and injury free!! TTYL!

-Eva

Eva, would you call that a skunky run? I got bit by a skunk in a pet store once in Okinawa. They go out and catch wild animals there and put them in pet stores for sale. I didn't know this. I assumed they were raised for pet stores not creatures just plucked from the forests.

Denise in the pic it appears that you and Mark have a good stride, so it's no wonder you are doing so well.

Lynn is coming along also she just doesn't believe it yet.

I had a nice workout this morning but cut it a little short so I could come home and be with Erica for a bit before she goes to sleep. I love it when I run out of time before I run out of energy.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

No walk this morning - it is raining and cold, and I am taking it easy after yesterdays 11 miles. The high today is supposed to be 56!!!

Scott made it home safely yesterday, he took a bump on his flight home, and I was just getting ready to drive down to Denver to get him when he called to say he found a ride to Cheyenne from Denver.

Dave - you are right - I did pick up my training speed before the Minnie, when I had to maintain a 15 m/m pace, but since then, I cannot seem to pick up the speed again - my average is around 15:30-16:00 in my training walks. Granted I do go faster in races, I tend to run more, and I think the people around me help me keep my pace up, but I would like to see more improvement in my training walks.

Congrats on the 5K race!

Connie - I will get totals posted once I get Scott to tell me what he did all week, he has not transfered the info to his running log yet.

Have a great day! We will be working on the basement as soon as Scott gets back, he had to file some paperwork after his trip.

Lynn we are going to do a lot more walk training with you at Tot since we are walking the race together. Are you doing the shin exercises? Where you hold on to a step by your heels, holding on to something of course, and hanging your feet over the step and then raiseing and lowering them.

http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/TibialisAnterior/BBReverseCalfRaise.html

That builds your shins which are important.

Also do the hip and waist exercise, imagine you are using a hula hoop and do 50 circles one direction and 50 the other.

We have to have you ready to breeze through that pesky marathon in January.

Denise the pics are awesome. Isn't Miranda the shy one peeking out from behind.

Pixey dust for all our sicky and hurting team mates.

Hi Team!

Congratulations Denise & GirTheGecko on your Races! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I had to get to the gym early this morning to get in some bike miles to bring my numbers up! :upsidedow

Thanks, Eva - Yes, my foot is better - the swelling has gone down a little more, but I am not taking any chances - going very slow & careful with the walking miles this week, as I only walked 10.35 miles, but up the total with the bike miles to 55.35. Being on our Team really does keep me moving! :goodvibes

Going to try to get a 5-6 miler in tomorrow morning - will stop if the pain increases. :headache:

And yes, Eva I have been to the Ludington, Traverse City, and Cadillac areas all of them are beautiful areas to visit in the fall. I used to live about an hour from Cadillac.

Have a wonderful weekend! :goodvibes

It has been steadily raining all day, (it does not do that much here in Wyoming, it is what I would call and East Coast rain), neither of us have any energy to do anything! Scott made a cherry pie with the cherries off our tree that I picked and pitted while he was gone! We have made a hamburger soup for dinner - in the crock pot. I did get some packing for our next trip done, I feel pretty organized now for that trip.

Dave - I have done the opposite with the step, hang my heels off the step - it is good for the PF. I will start doing the shin things and the hula-hoop things. I really should do weights, I just really dislike weight training, so do not do it as much as I should. I will look forward to the training at the TOT race!
